The Young and The Restless - On The Run

Horrible, horrible writing.

Paul is mainly off-screen for weeks, and is now given a story which stupidly ties him to one of the most boring character ever created, Dylan.

Meanwhile, the viewers are so confused that they don't even know the character's name is Austin, not Justin (which I'm sure will become a hilarious joke for months on SON :P).

And Summer is supposedly in love with someone after knowing them for a week or two. Meh.

And I don't even care for Avery even though she's been on for years. First they shoved her down our throats with a huge 'love story' between Nick and her, and now she's stuck in the least romantic story of all times (with Dullan).

Add horrible production values and music to the entire thing, and what exactly do you have? (This is completely ignoring the rest of the show which I don't even want to talk about–I'm looking at you fakeVictoria/fakeKelly and the other characters which are ignored and/or have had personality transplants.)

At least Daniel/Lily on the run had a foundation - this is beyond nuts! Maybe this will be the news that "shocks" Phyllis awake.

Dylan is too dull to be Paul and Nikki's son but then again look at Nick..talk about dull....and neither Nick or Dylan are appealing sexually..lol...Nikki sure gives birth to dull unattractive children....LMAO

To be fair all of Paul's children are dull. Even that overaged singing waiter was dull.

Let's take it a step further - Paul is dull! He's always been dull and DD is a terrible actor. Still scratching my head on that Emmy. The only thing that will make this story or any YR story better is a new regime because this is not the only thing stinking up the joint.

Right. Daniel and Lily worked because it was part of a larger umbrella story and both kids had a history on the show and a decent length of history with each other AND the audience. This was just instant drama that unfolded in a matter of weeks. Summer doesn't have the history with this guy and neither does the audience so she looks ultra stupid.

I like Paul, but I think he works based on who he's sharing scenes with.

Exactly. Paul IMO flourishes when he's in a romance with a dynamic woman (i.e. Lauren, Nikki, Cassandra, or Isabella). His romance with Christine was good but that's because they had dynamic characters, old Phyllis and Michael, serving as obstacles. Even his busybody mommy, Mary, who needs to be recast IMO (calling Michael Learned) was a dynamic force that made Paul interesting. Nowadays, Paul is a complete bore, and he could be so much more had they kept Ricky and Heather around and played the proper beats with them (the two bonding over the absence of Paul and giving him grief).

I was just getting back into this show (well, tuning in at least two or three days of the week) but now, have completely tuned out because of this story.

Turn it to CNN or the Roku or nothing at all at 11:00 a.m.

Okay, I'm behind. But in the episodes I'm on, Austin and Summer haven't even started dating yet. I'm on May 24th. Even though that's a few weeks, it's CERTAINLY not enough time for them to believably have fallen in love deep enough that she would run away with him after finding out that he stalked the closest thing she had to a mother at this point? The storytelling is shameful but Austin is sexy AF.

I can only come to the conclusion that Summer wants to get laid. She wanted to get laid when Jack's son (whose name I've forgotten already that's how interesting I found him) was in GC--her would be almost, not quite brother. Based on how the writers are scripting this storyline, my guess is that Summer is in a mad rush to be de-flowered already.

Watching classic episodes of ATWT where Lily, who is in a relationship with Holden discovers his deception and runs off and ends up losing her virginity with longtime friend Dusty-- this Summer/Austin crap pales in comparison.

Had Y&R done something where Summer was dating Austin and starting to fall for him but this revelation was uncovered and furious she runs off and sleeps with Fen, thinking he was the only one she could ever trust, it might make a little sense. But Y&R refuses to take the type of chances in the writing that could pay off, ones that are based on some sort of logic. So this is what we end up with.
