Have you seen what has happened to the teen stars from Nick and Disney?

No, I haven't visited tmz.com lately.

I like that Mariah adds conflict to boring Tyler and Abby and highlights Victor's evil machinations, as well as stirs things up for everyone who loved Cassie. It gives almost everyone new dialogue. I don't like the Ian part of it all at all. His young women predatory behavior is not something I want to see on TV. There are some taboo areas that soaps should not touch on for any length of time. Extending this story and making it a part of the Mariah story was a huge mistake.

I've heard people say that Bill Bell didn't care what viewers thought, yet he did with Ian's story when it began, decades ago. Why JFP thought she should resurrect something that Bell had the good sense to end boggles my mind. I remember her comments when she first came to Y&R and I think maybe she should re-read them. I hope she doesn't turn a deaf ear to the long time viewers who long for the gold standard that used to be Y&R. IOW, I hope she is not as out of touch with the viewers as MAB was. Under her direction, Ray Wise's character continued to be written as a sexual predator. Had she wanted him to continue on the canvas, she shouldn't have done that. Even EP's of top rated soaps have to realize and learn from their mistakes and not let them continue. I don't know why this wasn't a no-brainer for her. Many people who work for her tout her intelligence. unsure.png

Why add Kristen Alderson??

Have you seen what has happened to the teen stars from Nick and Disney?

I added Kristen Alderson because of this statement:

In a way, Camryn Grimes reminds me of Erin Torpey (ex-Jessica, OLTL). Both were very talented as child actors on their respective soaps -- or, at least, it seemed they were more "together" than the average soap kid (see Eddie Alderson). However, as they've aged, neither have, IMO, transitioned completely or all that well onto the same level as their more seasoned colleagues. Subsequently, because their ranges are now limited,

I know all about the Disney and Nick trainwrecks but some of them are still talented (Lindsay Lohan). I know it's hard to transition from soaps to primetime from some actors but it can be done. Lyndsy Fonseca and Darcy Rose Byrnes was able to do it.

What's with Cady M playing Kelly as some breathless and overwhelmed schoolgirl when Jack Abbott kisses her? Sorry, but I hated that as much as I hate Alexis acting ridiculous when Julian Jerome jumps her on GH.

No matter how you look at it, CM is playing an entirely different character than Cynthia Watros played.

I don't think transitioning to Nick or Disney is really a measure of ANYONE's talent.

I agree. I always hate to see that thrown out as some testament to talent.

I just hope she isn't playing Patty Williams with a new face.

I am not going to watch Y&R anymore. I have watched from day one. Watching the dismantling of ATWT and GL was too painful. I am not going through that again.

Perhaps none of the top PTB have decided to end Y&R as was the case with GL and ATWT but JFP knowing how unhappy we are and not making any changes may as well be the same thing for me. She knows it is going downhill and she keeps making stupid decisions. I am not interested in Y&R JFP style. It took a little while for me to see where she was going with it, and that is in a different direction.

It is Y&R for me, or nothing. Not MAB's Y&R and not JFP's Y&R.

People like Frons and JFP are a disgrace to the genre, medium, whatever it's called. I am very angry but I am not going to let her break my heart the way P&G did. Y&R is yet another soap that I watched with my grandmother when I was a young girl. For many people - just like me - it is ALOT MORE PERSONAL than it will ever be for people like Frons and JFP.

Very sad day. There will be a huge void. Thanks for the memories MTS, SC, JM, PB, ED - and a few others, many of whom are no longer on the show due to recasts.

She could be, though. When it comes to Y&R these days, you just never know, lol.

Y&R is horrible.

Tom & Grimes have always been good actors but they aren't being given anything to work with.

Tom is doing his best but he can with an extremely damaged character (however has no chemistry with Amelia) & using Camryn to fill all Y&R's current plot holes is lazy writing.

Jess should be the heart of the show yet she's in backburner stories with a sleepwalking Tristan Rogers & pointless Lane.

Paul & Cricket's marriage is only exceeded in ridiculousness by Michael & Lauren's.

The Newmans are reliant on gimmicks & temporary villains for story, The Abbotts don't get airtime unless it involves Newmans & the less said about the Winters the better.

Chelsea & Avery have failed as leads, Nina & Mason have disappeared & Burton's underwhelming performances haven't justified his airtime.

Recasting Kelly with Cady was pointless (Y&R should have written the character off & brought Cady on as Mari Jo Mason).

The only good thing in the past year has been the focus on Paul & Nikki's friendship which never gets enough airtime.

Disgustingly bad.

Cady as Mari Jo is a brilliant idea.

Utterly brilliant. I didn't even realize the similarities, even in face and voice, until DeeeDee said it. Now I can't unsee it.

The problem I have with Y&R is it's slipping into Garin Wolfe's GH territory, which is to say so boring that I'm losing interest. Y&R has been bad before. That reliquary business for example, but when it's so utterly boring that I consider skipping episodes, I start to worry.
