Unpopular Opinions of 2014

  • Members

New year, new UOs (or old ones)...

I'll start by saying...

1. Anyone who considers that showkilling bootleg Janet Wood bitch as any kind of effective EP's opinion is null and void.

2. Anyone that can take time out of their day to 'hate watch' a show deserves to be mocked by the show's staff, cast, and network execs (including those that I can't stand) for all time for their delusional entitlement.

3. For all the talk about those who rail against those who tell them to stop watching if they hate a show much and claim that they'll be the ones to beg them to come back, those haters will be the actual ones holding up the SOS signs and spearheading those petitions.

4. 'Bland' and 'boring' are code words that the majority of (non-) POC viewers feel threatened by a POC character whose mere presence threatens their raggedy white favorites (especially for prominent airtime), yet can't quite rag on their looks or acting.

I don't really see a purpose for Julian as Sam's father either. "Now Sonny can't kill him," isn't good enough, as he wasn't going to kill him anyway, they were just looking for any random reason to make sure he couldn't.

For a story that had been around for years, the whole thing is an anticlimax. Typical Ron.

You may not like it but that is the purpose. I think Kevin as her father would have served even less of one as thinly thought out that was. She's about to get a new brother out of it so that's something they can play off of, especially considering the Carly connection, not that I have much hope for it, but its at least something

She's likely only going to have a handful of scenes with Lucas, looking bored as hell as Julian staggers around in poorly fitted underwear.

I don't think Kevin would have added that much either, don't get me wrong, but I could at least say that might have led somewhere (maybe Ryan had ties to the Cassadines; maybe Kevin/Alexis could rekindle something and Lucy would lash out).

If this is the best we get, then they might as well have made Max her father.

Yeah. It was boring for a time back in 2009-2010. It got better though.

You should go and watch some of the classic heartbreaking stories like Stone's death (He was Robin's first love. He died of AIDS) and the BJ's heart storyline (Maxie's cousin who passed and then her heart was transplanted to Maxie)

The 80s and 90s really were the golden age of the show.

You should also catch the storyline with Kevin's twin brother (Ryan Chamberlain) who stalked Felicia. He was a total nutjob who I LOVED! One of the best GH villains ever and they haven't brought him back from the dead.

God knows I love JL's portrayal of Kevin. But, I thought the character of Ryan was always more complex. Except during the storyline where Kevin went nuts, kidnapped Felicia and Lucy, and thought he was his dead brother. (That's the storyline that also brought Alexis and Stefan to the canvas. Back in Sept. 1996.)

I didn't even know Kevin had a twin! I bet JL was good in that role.

I noticed your signature....If only he would come back to life just to get rid of her! lol Seriously though she doesn't annoy me as much as she did before. Maybe because the propping has subsided (except for Felix).

Kevin is on even less than all characters involved and there would be absolutely no conflict. Other than wanting something for your favorite character, I don't see how making him her father would go anywhere than what they've done. You may not agree and this may be an unpopular opinion but Kevin is irrelevant to today's GH. He's irrelevant in his "own storyline" Julain as Sam's father may be a plot device, but that's still a purpose and one that's being utilized by the writers. Kevin as Sam's father would have literally gone nowhere as I don't see the current regime caring to do anything with it when they don't even do anything with Kevin and he's been back for almost a year now

LOL..I thought Karen was boring. She was alright as a supporting recurring character but she shouldn't have been made a regular. She was just so blah. I didn't see much spark in her, but then again she came after Dru, so any woman with Neil at that point probably couldn't compare.

I could see why some would find her boring. She was okay IMO. Her best scenes however were when she found out about the affair and confronted Neil. Nia Peebles rocked that scene IMO. It's like they waited until they wrote her off to show give her a story worthy of her talents.

Reminds me of Téa and Dani and Tomás on OLTL during RC's run, yes Téa would speak in Spanish, but rarely did we see or hear about anything cultural about Puerto Rico

Um Tea was not Spanish when it was convenient on OLTL. Maybe her retconned kid, but not Tea. I didn't realize she needed to wave a flag around about her heritage.

I can't say that Sonny Corinthos' diminished Latino pride is the fault of the character (whether the actor was in cahoots with the hack that made it so is another matter that is up for debate), let alone equivalent to the self-loathing mess that was Tea Delgado. Neither can I blame Danyella's lack of Latino identity on the character (as her mother was hardly an shining example of ethnic pride, herself). I'd weigh in on Tomas if he was given anything other to do besides being a T&B spoiler.

Sabrina was very boring during her triangle with Britt and Patrick. She has improved over the last couple of months IMO.

Perhaps (like I said, I didn't watch her enough to come to any conclusion), but the fact that she receives more vitriol than Lisa Niles (as did Leyla Mir before her, which is hardly coincidental) - a chick who, from what I'd read, terrorized folks with Robin's HIV+ blood in a syringe, among other more heinous deeds - speaks volumes while underlining my assessment about the viewers that I speak of.

Two of the most boring characters to ever be added to that show (apparently another UO of mine is that I've never gotten the appeal of the Cassadines and never understood why any found them a necessity to the show).

Lisa Niles was not propped like Sabrina. Sabrina is hated because they did things like center the entire Nurse's Ball around a chick who had only been on for a few months and had every other character talking about her greatest.

Lisa was vile but nothing about her could be described as boring. She's not in the same class as Sabrina

That always happens. Exit stories are always the best work and many fans find themselves wondering why the person is leaving when they have spent the better part of a year wishing that very thing.

I loved Stefan and Alexis but was mightily disappointed when they made them related. That was very wasted chemistry. One of the many reasons I gave GH up and have never returned.

Okay I'll post some unpopular opinions

Clichéd overused plots like WTD and back from the dead are not soapy. More like ridiculous, predictable, and boring at this point

GH

I don't think Bryan Craig is a good actor nor do I think he stands out. Sometimes I cringe when he's onscreen. Michael, Morgan, and Kiki all suck equally.

Molly needs to be recast. HP can't act, never was a good actress, and her voice is unbearable. And she can't anchor a teen scene.

I hate the Cassadines and find them all useless. I don't think Nik is hot or sexy.

Mark Teschner is the most overrated casting directing in soaps.

I'm sick of Cartini getting praised for things others have done before them and better. I actually saw someone comment about Ava and Morgan and say how innovative a older woman and younger male pairing was on soaps and how it had never been done before.

B&B

The most repetitive soap on air that somehow hardly ever gets called out on it. Every time I tune in its like the same script is replaying in loop.

I don't think their wardrobe is amazing.

Y&R

EH is miscast and asexual. Chloe was never amazing, the rewrite that made her Esther's daughter was pointless, and the character should've left awhile ago.

I was fine with the show killing off Delia because that child should've never existed in the first place and she did nothing but grate like her parents.

Jeanne Cooper's acting as Marge the last time around was downright cringe inducing.

I don't even know how you can even compare Lisa and Sabrina...you truly are reaching to try and make some race point now.

I heard about Lisa Niles but only started watching this year. I did read her bio though.
