Not really, though.

The Dennison family was in Genoa City by February 1997, which puts their beginnings in the same era, as you said.

But the crux of Tricia & Megan's stories, such as Megan with Nick Scotti that we were discussing, were from mid-1998-2001 which was a whole other ballgame (era) when it came to the show.

I agree with you about the end of Megan/Tony. Tricia eclipsed everything by then. It was definitely about her by then

Thanks! A shame since, save for a few credits, he didn't do much.

I always liked him but for the last few months of his stint I grew to love him. He had a great presence and the character hit its stride. Not to mention the chemistry with Sharon Case, Jennifer Gareis and Ashley Jones. I think Tony could have been a much bigger presence than he ultimately became if Scotti hadn't left. I always did want something to happen between Sharon & Tony, although the show decidedly settled on just keeping a friendship between them.

There were rumors of why he didn't do more after Y&R, but of course rumors are just rumors.

It's too bad Y&R didn't do more with him. He seemed to spend a year or more in that apartment, pining for Grace and babysitting Cassie while Grace slithered around Nick.

They wasted his chemistry with Heather Tom as well.

I'd ask what those rumors were, but I'm not sure I can deal with any more spilled tea this week!

It really is a shame. Out of the three women he was closest with, he had the least chemistry with Gareis, and yet she was the one he spent most of his time with. And by the time Tony really got going, Scotti was ready to go.

It's hard to find anyone Tom doesn't have chemistry with. Perhaps it would have been best if Victoria was with Tony instead of Neil during the time she got pregnant. They did the whole rich woman/poor guy with Tony and Megan anyways and later with Victoria and Diego. But I guess that would have nullified everything Megan could do lol

GH has had a ton of these. Years ago I recall Alan or perhaps it was Scotty looking out a window and seeing a dead body in a park, and then it was never discussed again. In more recent times there was the old woman Ida who was found hung from a ceiling fan or something during some murder mystery of some sort, and then they never told us who or why she died. Then Jax saw the longtime obstetrician run down by a speeding car and then they never discussed why that happened. Even more recently Helena came to town to extract a birth certificate from beneath a painting, and then the show never brought it up again, nor did they ever explain what was supposed to be when Jason had a personality change following a brain ailment. The show went to great lengths via montage and hyper editing with a dramatic close up on his eye to make it seem like this is it, he has changed. Then the show never referred to it again. In the past year there was a battle for ELQ that hinged on relish. The relish rollout tanked thanks to sabotage leaving ELQ still broke theoretically but the show forgot about it and ELQ is now magically cured.

There was also Epiphany's son being murdered.

And then during Alan's pill addiction, when he made Emily take a pain pill so she wouldn't go to the hospital (they'd had a minor car accident). Apparently someone realized just how horribly depressing this was going to become, so it was never mentioned again.

I'm not sure that's what I was thinking of. Chris and Em trapped in the store had to be the Chris before Dylan (who's name is on the tip of my tongue but not my fingers---y'know, the big dumb one who was decades too old for Alison.) Because I think that's what stopped the Chris/Ali marriage.

Yeah, but she had thoughts of killing Katie. That alone was worth it.

On Days, I always thought the Larry vendetta against Abe in 2000, was pretty pointless, and didn't really serve any real purpose; it had no momentum, and Brandon and Larry basically played the same scenes every other week. It fizzled out eventually.

Did we ever find out who Greta's father was? There was build up, but nothing ever came of it.

B&B have had a heap of dropped stories and characters over the years. Amber's identical twin April, was a pointless story.

Sunset Beach started that mystery surrounding Cole, Leo and AJ. A sample of Cole's hair was stolen and tested; Leo was told he couldn't donate blood; AJ was talking about Cole being an exact match for something... It all went nowhere fast.

They also wrote in a link between Virginia and gang member JoJo (who was involved in her husband's death) during her first few months on the show, but this link was never picked up at all. They also never explored Gregory's link to JoJo, either. That whole gang story never went anywhere.

Yeah, random green vapour once seeped out of it in Shawn's room. They didn't seem to know where that was going, so quickly tied it to Paul Walker, and the hunt for Alice Horton's missing ruby that was never mentioned again.

    • Right. Literally for decades, soaps mesmerized their audiences with tales of romance, family conflict, class struggles, and recognizable interpersonal-relationship sagas. We didn't need relentless, heavy violence. We didn't need clones, mad scientists, extra-terrestrials and demon possessions. We didn't need gaggles of plastic himbos and bimbos pushing beloved vets off-screen. We only needed to see people whom we cared about, and the intelligent, moving progression of their lives. Flashy sets, gaudy gimmicks, and high-falutin' hairdos be damned. The characters and the words were important.
    • Absolutely! Brad should've simply moved on from Lunacy. There's no point of freeing her, if you're not going to at least make an attempt at redemption or incorporating her into the fold. It happened with Quinn, who committed quite a few felonies before become the Forrester Matriarch.  Heck, keep Lunacy in prison and have Poppy/Finn discover that she gave birth to twins - 'Sunny' could've come on with a clean slate and still had Sheila/Finn and all the other drama. It certainly couldn't have been worse than what we've witnessed with the destruction of $B.
    • I would enjoy it if Swan popped up on BTG as an old one time friend/mentor of Anita’s for a cameo. This is just

    • I had totally forgotten that Courtney story. I see Burton was already phoning it in by that point.
    • omg I completely missed that, but now when I see it typed here in your post, it's obvious icky cringe. So now I just checked and Tomas said that -- on May 27 that he likes the author Carl Ivati.  He said it with sort of an accent, so I didn't catch the stupid joke or think about the spelling.   I remember when that aired, that I actually said to myself at the time, "I wonder if that's a Latin American author, and I will have to google him later." And now I see your post, and I see. Well that's cringe, and I feel stupid to have fallen for it.

    • There's a lot you don't need if you have the writing.  You don't even need large casts!  You could make do with a cast of 12-18 actors if the writing is there.
    • Thank you. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with sleeping around if your spouse actually knows about it. She’s just a cheating slut.
    • OMG...Robert Mandan! And Donna Mills is a child. I keep hoping for more of early Ross/Vanessa.
