But I don't think there are that many stans out there. Not the die hard kind that won't see reason eventually. It just doesn't take that many to make it seem like all soaps fans on twitter are crazy. Only one person that I follow has even mentioned this situation (other than EB and MTS). There are plenty of normal soap fans on the net, it's just that the vocal few are what people see, imo.

I also think that twitter gives certain types of fans an even stronger illusion that they know these actors. Sure, people had that idea in the old days, but I think Twitter intensifies that, so some of the more naive people think they are siding with someone they actually know.

This...when a person can reach out and touch an actor and get an immediate response, it definitely gives the illusion that they are friends. One regular poster on SOC took every opportunity to dog the character Devon. But Bryton responded to her on twitter so now she is Devon's biggest fan telling everyone who will listen how she and Bryton are "twitter friends".
