Hollywood Reporter: Soaps Producer Ramps Up ABC Lawsuit: 'Mega Soap' Fraud Scheme Alleged

It all makes me roll my eyes, but I especially love this:

ABC even went so far as to induce the actors who had been playing some of the more popular characters on OLTL to sign secret, exclusive, multi-year contracts with ABC ― all without a word to Prospect Park."

I guess Prospect Park forgot that their licensing deal was for characters, not actors. The actors owed them nothing, especially after that first failure to launch.

Yep for some reason they act like all actors wanted to do the show, at the time they joined GH PP hadn't even remotely had in anything in the works for either show

They switched from a good but small boutique firm in CA to one of the top 5 firms in the country. Still not sure the case has merit but they're serious about the suit- this could go on for a few years.

I dnt think thats the point. Their point is P agreed to let the characters play on GHfor a YEAT BC signed those actors to three year deals. That shuts PP out from talking to these actors RE Doing OLTL

Since KA ME & RH signed longterm with ABC, ABC us known as their FIRST POSITION

All future deals for employment have to get approved by ABC & ABC can even refuse to let PP talk to the actors

The implication is that they were signing to continue playing their OLTL characters, which they were. Are we forgetting Todd, Starr and McBain's time on the show already?

LOL watch PP win and have funding for another season of the shows. I'm joking but still, LOL at the thought.

More than a few years. ABCD (Disney) won't just roll over and write a check. I could also see Disney trying to get the rights to the shows back depending on whether or PP pays the fees owed this January.

Very Possible

Although I do wonder if the courts find ABC sabatoged PP if they could nulify PP 's payments to AMC???

PP is asking for 95 million in damages and also to keep the rights to the shows without the licensing fees.

I don't see any conceivable way they get all that.

Good. That original complaint was ridiculous.

Matters not! If the actors/performers were committed to PP, they would have stayed. People usually go for the better offer, and the failure of both shows will prove the 3 right in their decision to sign with ABC.

How can the courts allow PP to keep something that does not belong to them? If they can't pay, PP has to cough up the rights. If they received a favorable judgment [i seriously doubt it], it would not be by means of ABC property.

From the article

Prospect seeks more than $95 million in damages for breach of contract and promissory fraud. The producer also demands that it no longer have to pay any licensing fees, but that it still be entitled to an extension of the license agreement.

So they want 100 million and the shows for free. Go big or go home

I think this simply a means of trying to get ABC/Disney to settle quickly...Disney has no incentive too. They keep this tied up for years

Disney can and will crush Prospect Park. Disney has lawyers on retainer who will keep this in the courts for a decade if it takes that long, Prospect Park will run out of money and fast.

I hope Disney bleeds them dry, the greedy bastards

PP will bleed themselves dry and will drop it once the attorneys are convinced they won't be getting paid.
