I think Casey D. is quite charismatic and is capable of a lot more than what DAYS has given him -- I suspect he will go on to a healthy prime time career. (He's already on his way.)

DAYS has cast some really wonderful younger performers in the last five years or so and then squandered them with bad writing or non-existent storylines ... I think Shelly Hennig, Mark Hapka, Molly Burnett and Casey are all much better than the material they were given. Of course, that applies to most everyone on DAYS (and all TV soaps) these days.

Instead of recasting, Id rather he go out with a bang. I want him to finally say F U to Gabby and her threat and expose her secrets in a big public way for everyone to find out the truth about her. He does it for revenge as well as to give Will ammunition to fight Nick for custody. He then can use Stefano to ship him out of town to avoid charges based on him beating Nick up last summer.

Casey is a good actor when he tries. His playful verbal sparring with Abby has been good, but most of his material in previous years has been phoned in.

He was found by Marnie Saitta who has a good eye for younger talent, something she was good at on Y&R as well. Her track record at DAYS has been impressive in terms of younger stars going on to prime time like Taylor Spreitler on Melissa & Joey, Molly Burnett and her MTV movie and guest stints on true Blood etc. Shelley Hennig on Secret Circle (she was the only thing worth watching on that show imho) and guest stints on shows like Justified etc., I'm suprised Hapka never made more of an impact. Did she cast Blake Berris and Ashley Benson too? I don't think she did Ashley, not sure about Blake.

It's a massive step up from the early 2000s which just produced awful teen actors who went on to act badly on other soaps - Kristen Storms, Farah Fath, Jason Cook, Kyle Lowder etc.

    • If NBC could have for seen the ratings of Lovers & Friends (the replacement for Somerset).. they would have for sure kept Somerset on the air longer. https://jason47.com/days/ratings1976.html  (ratings for Somerset in the final year) https://jason47.com/days/ratings1977.html (ratings for Lovers & Friends short run...getting as low as a 2 rating).

    • I liked them, too, and was really disappointed it never went anywhere. The whole art theft story was ridiculous, but they had a nice chemistry. Certainly nicer than Alan with Christine. With her, he looked like the funny uncle. The worst thing they did to Bolger, IMO, was having Phillip write that DREADFUL novel and dramatizing it while he wrote it. GAG, that has to be in the running for one of their worst storylines that didn't involve wacky things like clones or time travel. Soaps rarely do school storylines, or don't do them for very long. Not the case so much in the early days of soaps, but after GH took off in the late 70s other soaps took their lead and would catapult teens/young adults into adult stories right away. That's one reason Phillip and Mindy ended up with so many ex-spouses--they started getting married really young. They shipped Dina and Cameron off really fast after high school and stuck Alan Michael in a marriage storyline with Harley. Did he EVER go to college? I don't think so. It may also partly explain why Quint and Annabelle had to go, beyond TPTB wanting to do a cast sweep. Teaching is not a profession that plays well on a soap. Quint definitely had to quit being Indiana Jones, because that wore thin really fast, but they didn't do him favors by making him a professor. If they wanted to keep him, they should have done what they did with Amanda (who was in another dead-end soap job, concert pianist)--have him work at Spaulding as one of the major stockholders.
    • Judith McConnell (Augusta) and Denise Alexander (Lesley) were great screen partners on GH.  They got into some stellar arguments in character in the medicine room.
    • He also commented that Brad knows that fans are sick of the constant fake deaths on this show: Finn, Sheila, etc and that it's hard to take this seriously if it's another fake death

    • I just don't think Brad Bell has it in him to actually kill off Liam. He should have killed off Eric when he had the chance. I know John McCook is an original cast member, but Eric is even more useless than Liam. Eric should have died and then it would be revealed that he died without a valid will, so Donna, as his wife, inherits everything, including his shares in Forrester Creations.
    • I think we all will, isn't that how soaps work? lol
    • ^^ I'll believe it when it actually happens.
