I was on the fence before, but now I HAVE to see this movie. Tyler Perry's films are always these horrific, bigoted, misogynistic, hilarious camp classics written by a man who - well, he's got some deep, deep, deep issues, is all I'll say.

I was mildly curious about this movie mainly for Jurnee Smolett but at the same time I wasn't in the mood to line Perry's pockets. But now, this feels like the black melodrama version of the Twilight movies and I kind of want to experience this hot mess in the theatre. But like the Twilight movies, I'll probably get high before I do. (What? I'm not a masochist.)

I hate, hate, HATE the way Tyler Perry has become The Official Filmmaker For All of Black America. His views of women, LGBT, morality, love, sex and religion are completely fucked-up. At the same time, I'm grateful for the fact that he features imagery of black people who are middle-class or wealthy, educated, business-oriented, etc... even though his portrayals are often...flawed to say the least.

I didn't know anyone found Tyler Perry misogynistic because up until recently, I have only encountered the fan club and some buffoonery criticism. I read this a couple of years agoL

Since I don't ever plan to go to see one of his movies, he won't ever disappoint me. The last time I attempted to watch one of his "very funny" shows, I got a dose of his take on a Waiting to Exhale scene.

I was surprised that some of his followers went bonkers over his casting Kim Kardashian because of some "she stole our man" nonsense.

He markets to the urban audience and his material isn't well received outside of that audience, which includes many who have seen his plays. The genre he writes in generally does have a moral/religious message and it's very cultural. His films aren't perfect, but I am glad that someone is putting black actors to work who would otherwise not get leading parts or parts at all.

I had no idea she had grown into such a marvelous actress until I saw her in The Great Debators. I was super impressed, but I no longer have a desire to see this movie. I have given TP too much of my money only to leave the theaters looking for ways to get a refund.

I'm hoping she will get lots of work. This young starlet is certainly soon to be Oscar worthy, not that it means much these days.

You never seen his movies? If not, (IMO) he makes a lot of his female characters, the subservient ones, "Mary-Sue" types. They eventually have to find redemption in a man rather than introspection and relying on themselves (i.e. Diary of a Mad Black Woman, Why did I get Married, Madea's Family Reunion). A lot of his AA male characters are demonized--not saying that there aren't bad AA men out there, but it's becoming TOO recurring in his films. Same with some of his women characters either being rape victims/molested by their daddy, etc. The first time these issues are addressed is fine, but in every other film, I start to worry.

Tyler is fine with me b/c he is one of few AA directors/writer/producer in Hollywood that is getting work and keeping doors open for the rest of us that want to walk through that door eventually; HOWEVER, it's a hindrance b/c of his films. I feel that many studios will only hire black writers if they engage in (excuse my French ppl) "coonery" rather than telling impactful, intelligent stories. Tyler has the potential to tell good stories, but he needs someone behind him to rein him in.

    • Or, they could have recast the role and written the character better. Maybe too much to expect, but it was a choice. Surprised they never did. Was Raines ever popular? Wait. Wait. WAIT! THEY RETCONNED THAT AGAIN????
    • Hope you're feeling better @slick jones Came across another entry for House Jameson.  Unknown role on Guiding Light, 1958.
    • Greece, France and Luxembourg were my three clear favourites. I think Greece especially had a phenomenal staging. So beautiful. And Klavdia sang fantastic.

France also had beautiful staging and Louane sang her heart out. Finally Luxembourg, who had a vastly improved stage show compared to the national final, and I loved the nod to France Gall on the little tv screen in the dollhouse.
    • LOL - literally just added an edit to my post, because as I'm watching live right now, Dahlia is swimming in the pool alone and there is Marcus.  So annoying. And Phillip just revealed himself to Rick. I have to stop watching now, but curious to see how those interactions go!
    •   LOL.  I realized this week's Lope montage also omitted the Paris remote Lope scenes with Kim Matula. I mean, they repeat stuff over and over and over. I have unintentionally memorized B&B scenes that I barely watched --- because it was repeated in dialogue and immediate flashbacks in following episodes over and over and over.  Yet somehow Brad thinks viewers (even casual views like myself) wouldn't notice the glaring omissions in the montage?  or as dragonflies said, the montage using Lope scenes that happened during the Steam marriage?
    • Well, you wont be happy at all because I think Marcus of all people shows up..you know they have to have a scene were Dahlia is swimming and Marcus joins her..despite the fact that he is a decade older then her. You could tell they were trying to make them the next big thing but then, just dropped it.  The whole wedding was also one of the reason McLaibey was so short term.
    • I would have bought it if Ed/Rick/Michelle were all there, but 1) Ed said he couldn't go because he had to work, to which even someone highlighted that he's chief of staff and could easily go if he wanted; 2) Michelle got on the plane with Rick to go, but J showed up and the Spaulding's kicked him off because why would they want another random teenager to go, so Michelle ran off the plane after him and Rick just let her go (haha, it was kind of dumb); and 3) Rick and A-M have barely said 2 words to each other in the 15 months I've been watching so far, so it was weird he's now just by himself with the Spauldings/Coopers.   But I know now why they're doing this, Rick is clearly there because Phillip has shown up. Very plot-driven, but at least I’m getting old flashbacks of Rick/Phillip during this.  Slight correction - Ed never showed up on the plane, just Rick and Michelle.  Ed had already made the decision he wasn't going. Once 'Slutchelle' (haha!) ran off, I thought it was so weird that Rick either didn't run off after her, or didn't call from the plane to tell Ed. It was only when Blake called Rick, who happened to be with Ed at the hospital, that he happened to tell Ed, in midair, "oh hey, you may want to go find Michelle, she ran off" hahaha. Yeah, I get that being a location shoot, they had to minimize the number of people, but to have Dahlia there over Bridget still irks me. I get it, at this point, Bridget wouldn't have any connections to any of the people there outside of Lucy, just still hurts. ETA: Ugh, and now Marcus shows up!
    • Maybe Brad can turn that day into an entire season.
    • I didn't get to finish the episode last night. It's been a week and I was not able to keep my eyes open.  I will say that I understand everyone's comments on the new Ted. I think more so than anything is the shock. Where else in modern TV do you get an actor to replace another from one day to the next without a break or some storyline to explain it. However, it's such a soap staple that I can't help but love it when I heard "The role of...is now being played by..."  I think the actor is good. I felt like Kat felt different playing against him. I wonder if it was nerves or just maybe this actor bringing something difgerent out of Colby. I do think Maurice's acting range showed itself to be weak when he got these more emotionally charged scenes to play. I actually clocked him as one of the weaker actors from Day 1, but he definitely wasn't the worst and I didn't think he needed to be replaced. However, I'm open to new Ted. Maybe Maurice can come back as Andre's daddy back from the "dead."  Ashley is really becoming unlikable with her attitude towards living with Derek. Although, she should have shut him down the minute he imposed the idea on her. Also, if I'm living with someone and I have a guest coming over soon which I forgot to mention to that person than they are more than welcome to stay. Especially, if that person is someone we both know. They'll just be made aware that next time I'm going to need them to leave for a few while when I have time with a friend. It was so rude the way she approached it, which makes it even more confusing as to why all the characters around her put her on a pedestal and Andre is obsessed.  I honestly don't see any chemistry between Andre and Ashley. Andre gets on my nerves. I'm sorry yall, but I can't with that man. He always gotta let out a huff in that last syllable when he's saying something emotional. It's like okay now Big Bad Wolf. Also, what is the appeal of Ashley? She's boring. The character is bland. I do feel for the Ashley and Derek actors because what are they even doing there...taking up space.
    • Liam hasn't had a purpose in years, none of the Spencer's have. The Spencer family should be written off and let Finn adopt Kelly, he's more her dad anyways.  IMO I think SC seen the writing on the wall with Liam. Brad is never going to let the character grow or evolve. Even dying he's being wishy washy and a waffler lol. Scott out there asking for Liam to be a villain and paired with Ivy only for Liam to continue to waffle I'd rather see Scott back at GH as Dillon or Michael Quartermaine   But I dunno I read Scott has issues with Frank that stem from his time on One Life to Live Also all the Lope flashbacks where when Liam was married to Steffy and one of them was when Hope was telling Liam she was pregnant(he was married to Steffy then) lol I need Steffy out of that white blazer, please burn it, it's awful. This day has gone on for like 3 weeks now. ONE DAY
