AMC: The Prospect Park Era (old production thread)

There was always something about RJ Gannon that impressed me. Too bad his story and his presence on the show was kind of derailed when the Jovan train started picking up steam as well as when he lost his grandchild to freakin' Tonio. If RJ was put back into the scene, I trust that he would no longer be watered down.

In the interest of full disclosure I'm going to cop to being a hardcore Jovan. Really. That said, I hate, hate, HATE how RJ/TDS was sacrificed for John/ME.

While I agree that the character of RJ was damaged by that whole mess being used to prop ME/John, IMO, the real damage was done when the show killed off Keri. I think Keri and the story around her was RJ's ticket to being a first-tier character. I hated that they destroyed Liz, Keri and Jamie in order to prop Messica and Tonio.

Okay, I'm done talking OLTL characters in this AMC thread.

Jerry verDorn is truly the nicest man in the business. So good to see him again.

I ran into Ilene Kristen once at a movie and saw a few other people around town while going about my day, but I've never said a word to any of them. I never want to bother people, and I'm not at all comfortable with going to fan events.

I'd never been/had any desire to go to a fan anything ever (well except begging my mother for Super Soap weekend for most of my childhood/teens to no avail) but I was sad the week OLTL was shelved and figured why not since its for a great cause and ended up buying a ticket. And while there certainly were some scary fans, it was pretty mellow and low-key- maybe because they limit the ticket sales or maybe because bowling just lends itself to that kind of thing as opposed to some kind of formal autograph line set-up. I regret not going earlier when there were multiple soaps in NY. If Jerry does it next year (and I assume they will as they did it in 2012 when OLTL and GL were both gone and before PP was back in the picture), I would definitely go again.

Ahhh my apologies for derailing this thread- I really just meant to talk about Daniel Colvin!

Don't apologize. That comment was just me trying to keep myself from going down the rabbit hole.

I want AMC back already! I miss my show and I am trying to be patient but I am so over waiting to hear something from TPTB. While I am grateful that we got 43 new episodes via TOLN I definitely want more episodes sooner than later.

I'm starting to miss AMC too.

I'm meh to OLTL at the moment only because I personally lost momentum with the show midway through. Guess I somehow knew not to get overly invested. Don't get me wrong I want OLTL back but I quickly became more invested in AMC.

I feel like last time with PP soooo silent that they've checked out. I'm probably wrong but this is ridiculous.

I don't think they've checked out. Given the insane reaction to everything they announce, I'm perfectly happy for them to stay silent.

Yep they are screwed n matter what they say. So im in the camp of work everything out & when there is definite news, then PP announce it

LOL. Good point ... I tried to avoid the, what it seemed like at the time, weekly PP threads.

Oh, I REALLY want it to work out but I can't help but see the similiarites in the silence, that's all. I just don't want it to be like last time when the soaps were for sure then come Thanksgiving PP finally spoke up and they were all put on hold.

Recipe for a PP news thread on SON:

the usual list of supporters and detractors

+

sweeping declarations of why the news in question is bad,

+

armchair hindsight of what PP should've done a year ago

+

retread discussions of that stupid [!@#$%^&*] lawsuit

+

copy & pastes of tweets and FB status updates from the actors dragged here from every corner of the internet

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Mix well then pour liberal amounts of alcohol through the whole thread and bake at 400 degrees until the next bit of news drops.

sweeping declarations of why the news in question is bad,

I think it's all in the way they release the news. The way they tend to release things is why people question them. A good PR firm would prevent this.

The same things I think they need to do now are the same things I said they should do from the beginning. Simple, common sense things that would've made things run smoother.

I'm meh to OLTL at the moment only because I personally lost momentum with the show midway through. Guess I somehow knew not to get overly invested. Don't get me wrong I want OLTL back but I quickly became more invested in AMC.

I too was a little bored in the middle of OLTL's run, but things picked up in a big way towards the end. This is why I get so upset by the press acting like OLTL was terrible. In what's the equivalent of two months of soap, they managed to work out all the kinks and create a show better than any on network tv. That goes for AMC as well.

My only big hopes for season 2 (of both shows) is that they write a season for a specific number of episodes so that they have a solid story with a beginning, middle and an end. Basically, whatever the plan is, they need to have one and stick to it from beginning to end. If it works, great, if it doesn't, at least they tried. Looking at the success of The Have and Have Not's, I'd also consider making the shows an hour again and doing a model similar to that. Even with their smaller budgets the shows would look a million times better than that one. Each show could have 40 1 hour episodes and could be sold to OWN as primetime series.

Just watched the talk show segment on ET just now. They are speculating that Katie will be canceled. They even through out the possibility of the soaps returning. They said it would be unlikely. That said, it would be an interesting turn of events as long as ABC has no creative input. Just broadcasting rights.
