The original concept for Society (in the characters' minds per their dialogue) ...
Abby was trying to create a business for herself. At one point she got ideas for real estate, etc. One day Abby stated she was thinking that Genoa City needed a hip upscale spot for young adults to grab dinner and listen to music. She wanted the menu to be high-end and she hired Lola as the gourmet chef. There was a stage where music acts could perform and Ana Hanilton's bio-father hoped to sing there. Abby wanted this as an upscale dinner alternative to Crimson Lights -- a place where trendy adults in their 20s and 30s would want to go. The dedication ceremony happened in 2019, around the time that Neil died. I think they later dedicated the stage to Neil.
But then stage was rarely (if at all) shown after that. And Society became more of a place for meetings since nobody has an office or a home. They did keep the unique menu as an attribute while Lola was the chef, so that was the only thing that made the place non-generic. Then Lola left in 2021.
Then for the 50th anniversary of Y&R in 2023, the show brought back the Athletic Club main floor as a regular restaurant, and dedicated the lower level as the Neil Winters Jazz Club. And it's as if the stage at Society never existed.
Now Society is a generic restaurant owned by Abby and managed or hostessed by Tessa.
