I thought Lowry's Jake was pretty unwatchable once he turned sanctimonious and baby-obsessed. That character needed a long rest after both his and J. Eddie Peck's tenures turned sour fast.

That said, Lowry was great as Ross on OLTL - easygoing and fun. If he can bring that energy, not unlike RPG's Jake, to the role, I could take it.

I thought the whole "Jake" thing was stupid. The character is JOEY and I thought he was best played by Michael Brainard (I admit, I had to Google the name). His Joey was very much like McKenna and Fillion's OLTL Joey. A kind soul.

Don't care much about villainous Vlad, but great news that they are trying to bring a Jake Martin back. Never saw Michael Lowry. I also think of J Edward Peck as my favorite in the role from my 2001/2002 AMC watching period. Liked RPG too.

Agree with dragonflies regarding the "no room" mantra.

Look, it's fine if you loved the Kreizman-era AMC and found it to be full of possibility. Not many other people did. I thought they had some okay stories but I thought Scott, Madison, etc. were inoffensive but bland. And the show's not going to be lacking for them.

If you like something and miss it then say you like it and you miss it, don't try to frame it as a different issue entirely.

Watching Debbi Morgan on Twitter is like watching her wander a deserted street on The Walking Dead. I just want to pull her into somewhere safe before the walkers realize she out there.

As for Jake, I honestly have no attachment to any of the actors who played him. That's not a slam. I liked each of them in their own way. I do think that RPG had awesome brother chemistry with MEK.

It's like suddenly everyone's forgotten how awful and hated Lowry was as Jake. It took a decade for that character to recover from his stint. I want someone new, I'm tired of seeing passable actors just because they have soap experience. RPG can stay away too.

Do you think they'll make the first few episodes available to critics? It might help them get some mainstream press.

    • In an interesting turn of irony, when Somerset came onto the airwaves in 1970... it ran against Dark Shadows and beat it in the ratings fairly quickly.  Then when Edge of Night moves to ABC in December 1975 and put against Somerset, the slow ratings rise that Somerset was allegedly having in late 1975 is derailed. From reading the write ups of the final year, the show dropped the May/December romance.. which viewers enjoyed and was getting the show some good press... the original cast member was sidelined due to medical issues, and the show featured pure crime stories without any balance. I think the crime focus was an attempt to compete with EON.  However, people that were into crime stories/mysteries weren't going to tune into Somerset for their fix.. not when Edge of Night was known for that.. and that show was running on a high quality wise when the network switch occurred.

    • Erwin Nicholson's last episode as SFT ep was 11/21. Whitesell started 11/22/85. Erwin was on board from March 8, 1985 so less than 9 months. Whitesell lasts six months (approximately) before P&G moved him to AW for two years where he primarily worked with DePriest. Whitesell was replaced on Search by no daytime experience David Lawrence who closed out the show's last six months.

    • I assume in name only?  One Stormy Night wasn't exactly steamy.  If it's a literal throwback then Stephanie's writing about sexy times her own Uncle was having lol. Since I am going to surmise it's just a throwback to the name, Night Sins and Winter Heat both sound sexier.  Just saying.  I swear Jamey (and Ron) just google things and land on the first thing they like and decide it's a good throwback to history without watching it.
    • I usually don't want Tide placement in the middle of an intense sad scene, but this is an interesting point

    • Thanks!   Was anyone watching during this time? Wondering how Peggy’s rape played out onscreen. It just seems cruel to subject the Brooks family to this trauma a 2nd time.   Feels like the writers have already given up on the character of Jennifer, even though she sticks around another year-plus. She should be a passionate and fierce protective mother, but instead she seems just reactionary (and not even mentioned in this recap) This was also the case in ‘73 when Chris was raped. The writers are definitely more invested Stuart as the Brooks parent.
