Members teplin
I bought this album when it came out in 1982. And I still listen to it. http://www.amazon.com/Patty-Weaver/dp/B001L63QIK
Members will81
Oh I have another one, sort of. You know how most people get into soaps because of their mothers and grandmothers? Apparently I was the one who got both my grandmothers hooked on them. They didn't start watching until I visited them around age 5. I also got my mum into Another World and Santa Barbara. Members ReddFoxx
This is more recent, but last year I wrote an R&B song titled "Valiant Lady" after that old soap opera from the 50s. I thought the title sounded musical.
Members ~bl~
I think most of us cut school or faked sick to watch at one time or another. One thing I used to do is in art class look for soap summaries in the cut out newspapers...
Members All My Shadows
When I was 12 or 13, I stole a VHS from my aunt because "old stories" was scrawled on the case. I got home, put it in, and was treated to five episodes of Gunsmoke. I was pissed.
Members SoapDope
I remember pretending to not care about soaps till I wound up talking to some school friends about them. I also remember when I was about 6, faking sick and seeing Victor & Nikki get married on Y&R. I also use to write fan fiction and would bring back some the old characters from the past into the present.
Members SFK
LOL, when my grandmother died, the one thing I wanted from the storage unit was my uncle's Hefty bag full of porn and late '80s/early '90s OLTL. I told my mom I wanted to get my grandmother's VHS collection and sure enough my uncle was there at the storage unit too. My mom: "(SFK) said mama had some movies and stuff..." My uncle: "Nah, they was just some old dirty movies..." Me:
Members MissLlanviewPA
Back when I wanted to be an actress (as in, when I was 12-13), I used to imagine starting my career in soaps, with characters on GL AND OLTL, each having to do with my favorite couples on both: Phillip & Beth (as younger Lizzie's friend, Christi--I gave her a name and everything!) and Max & Gabrielle (as a farm girl turned long-lost Buchanan heir Lucy--I was creative if nothing else). Anything to interact with my favorite couples! And yes, I imagined myself winning Daytime Emmys (plural) for both roles and what I would say in both of them. Duh. Members Maxim
I find Ronn Moss's portrayal of Ridge so over the top and unintentionally HILARIOUS that I LOVE HIM! I haven't actually seen worse acting In my life, but he is so bad that I just can't do without him. Haha. I think years ago when he fought the guy that raped Brooke there was a scene that was supposed to be dramatic, but I couldn't stop laughing, because of his acting - the head moves he does, the way he says the words, that look of fear and confusion that he has... OMG I miss Ronn Moss so much.

Members Gray Bunny
For some reason, I didn't get any sass from my family for watching soaps until I picked up my 3rd show - Guiding Light. DAYS was watched by myself and my mom & sister, then I picked up B&B, but when I became interested in GL, my sister thought it was weird. I guess it too old-school soapy in her opinion. (Okay, and the fact that I wanted the GL 60th anniversary book)
Members SFK
I was born into an equal opportunity soap watching family (on both sides) so lucky for me there was never any soap stigma in the home. As a matter of fact, it was my grandfather who got my grandmother and her kids into AMC as his office was in their house and he'd watch at lunch. Members Gray Bunny
Okay, I'll stick with the mostly embarrassing and nerdy soap confessions, cuz I'm PROUD to say I have all the soap books, 24 years worth of Soap Opera Digest back issues, 3 milk crates full of VHS tapes of soap episodes, and a full-size framed Bo & Hope poster on the wall in my den! At the tender age of 13, the first time I ever diddled myself it was to an image of Austin Peck. I have just about every soap theme on my iPod. I also have certain GL and DAYS scenes that I made audio files of, of certain scenes with particular background music. I'd be lying if I said I never listen to them. Years ago in the 90's, I did the same sort of thing on cassette tape. On those tapes were also audio of some of the Soap Opera awards. When I was around 21-22, my voicemail was the 1950's Guiding Light opening theme. From 1997-1999, I did an AOL newsletter for Guiding Light. By the time I ended it, I had over 1500 readers. Not too shabby! Once in 9th grade, I had to do some random English essay about any topic, and I did an article about demonic possession, using an article from Soap Opera Digest when they interviewed a real priest about the legitimacy of Marlena's possession on DAYS. I did an hour long highschool video that I wrote, produced, directed, and edited called "The Young and the Helpless". It was acted by 4 of my friends who played it very seriously, but it contained all the necessary soap cliches (evil twins, mistaken identity, secret past, fantasy sequence, etc.) and I used the Days of Our Lives music CD from 1998 as background music, along with other soaplike music. The main character names were Bo, Hope, and Gina. It wasn't all for fun though. It actually got me a partial scholarship to the college I went to. Wait, I guess that's not embarrassing... I got my college degree in Television writing and production, so I definitely had many soap opera themed projects and videos that I did, including one that did the history of gay characters on soaps, with myself as being the one interviewed as a so-called "expert" on the topic (my professor asked for a copy of it to show future classes... God, I hope she's lost that tape by now) One time when I was about 11 or 12 (when the show was on), my sister and I would act out the opening to Models Inc. hahaha Later this year when we move into our new home, I will be getting a new kitty to replace my deceased cat that I affectionately called the "small gray bunny" (hence my screenname).... her name will be Reva. Members DRW50
I love the idea that watching GL was a bridge too far. If they watched any of the show in the mid-late 90s, I can see why.
