HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

They should have Dixie go back to being a teacher, although I was kind of hoping they would bring back Greg Nelson for that role.

It seems like MEK wants to wait and see how the stories and production pans out before joining in.

I'll take new characters over Ryan/Greenlee/Kendall any day of the week. Opal/Angie/Adam/David plus a fresh canvas sounds awesome frankly.

Oooh. That's a thought. Greg teaching at the highschool.

I'm glad Susan Lucci is appearing. And David Canary is going to recur (or heavily guest star, I guess). I also assumed they were both a given, in some form, so I'm not super surprised but I so happy they'll be a part of it in someway.

MEK's words were ... interesting. Sounds like SOMETHING is up with him, but what? And I'm very happy Ray MacDonnell will be a part of it.

Honestly, the vets coming back don't surprise me because of Agnes Nixon. I mean, even with Lorraine writing the last few months of AMC, and Agnes "helping", we had Dixie's stupid death undone, Stuart's pointless, stupid, awful, horrible murder undone ... etc. so I figure she wants to fix what "went wrong" when the show moved, thus, bringing back the veterans who "retired". I'm not saying Agnes is God, but I think she definitely has a big influence.

I'm also really happy they're, in a sense, truly rebooting the show.

No, not EVERYTHING is thrilling me, but to me, I'm just incredibly grateful any effort is being made and they seem to want to make these shows familiar yet very relevant and even edgy, which If I remember, many wanted, and probably a big reason the soaps struggled through the late 90s and the 2000s. They just repeated the same garbage over and over again.

That was my gut thought. I hope he's well though.

That is why a "5 year jump" is a good thing! You can bring back people (Not from the dead, necessarily) and rebuild old sets (Glamorama, Boarding House) without an explanation. Basically, starting fresh with old people!

From Walt Willey's FB page:

And thanks to all you posters who so badly want me to be part of the AMC reboot...and to all of you who said you wouldn't watch it unless I was, PLEASE support this effort whether I'm a part of it or not. We NEED to keep the AMC legacy alive! And while I have not yet been asked to rejoin the cast, the answer is "Yes!", I certainly would consider it.

I know some folks here will throw him shade but I like the fact that he said this.

I agree. It's a very classy response.

I get the feeling Susan Lucci's singular appearance can't solely be attributed to her involvement with Devious Maids or whatever the show is called. Something tells me this fierce little diva could juggle 5 starring roles at one time.

This woman is smart and probably doesn't want to commit to something that might not be a success. She probably wants to sit back and see what kind of shows get turned out, how the fans react and what critics have to say.

Even with Canary and Lucci. I'm going to think long and hard about watching this unless Mike comes back.

Cause, it sounds horrible storyline wise. I'm going to give nuAMC a year. Tops.

You already were saying this weeks ago tongue.png Just saying.

Honestly, I don't see the focus on high school as a bad thing--depending on how it's done. AMC hasn't had a decent teen scene in ages it seems, but it IS one of the core story elements of the show historically.

I could see 1 0r 2 years ahead but 5. OLTL is not going 5 years ahead so if AMC does, crossovers cant happen

Far weirder things with shows and cross overs have happened before.

Adam, yes!!! smile.png

One episode for Lucci? Lame

One for now. We knew she was too busy to do more at the moment--why is anyone surprised?

AMC needs a teen scene IMO because the last good one was the early 90's. AMC pioneered the "Teen Scene" and Heave Emphasis doesn't mean "Soley Centered" just "Large Amount".

It was also speculated that OLTL was improving in the ratings, as awful as most of us found the musical prom etc, partly because they had a solid focus on teens. AMC hasn't had that for ages. I think people are jumping to conclusions about just how much emphasis on youth may be made.

I'm fine with one episode for Lucci and thrilled that Canary may be back full-time. I never expected to see Adam again. Hopefully Julia Barr/Brooke will join him. As long as the stories are balanced and they have a talented younger cast, I'm fine with high school stories. When AMC first started, weren't Phil, Tara and Erica in high school?

Yes, and at arguably its peak--around 1983 it also had a big high school influence (Tad/Liza/Jenny/Greg/Angie/Jessie and a lot of supporting characters).

I mean. I expected AMC to flop the minute they named the writing team. McPherson...Really? Someone who thought a good storyline involved a middle aged lady shrink possessed by satan. Really????

Racine (who OLTL got) is 10x better.

AMC was my favorite over OLTL and GH for a good year. And, I'm still expecting it to flop. I don't want it to. But, all the crap stuff that keeps coming out about it. Just makes my beliefs go deeper and deeper.

That's fine. I just don't get your mentality or Golden Ducks announcing that they won't watch even ONE episode based on these bits of gossip.

McPherson did not create the possession storyline. Racine (who I have a lot of respect for) DID create a storyline about a town held captive by essentially a mad scientist type invention that caused it to freeze. I'm not saying if the story worked or not--but you could easily use examples both ways.
