HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

From my understanding, based on Matt's comment and checking with someone who would know, it looks like they won't be AIRING the shows on TOLN. But it's still slightly confusing. I'm checking though.

Personally, I would never have watched the shows on TOLN anyway. Not unless their system was better than Hulu's. I just love laying down on my bed or couch and watching my shows with limited commercials from a familiar product like Hulu.

Will watch OLTL on Hulu the first few weeks if it is good, then I will probably purchase a season pass on iTunes if they offer them.

Your typo made me assume they'd gotten their money from the Arby's fast food franchise.

Oh, I wish they had. The product placements on AMC and OLTL would have been as golden as their curly fries.

I'm glad to see that some of this stuff is falling into place with a minimum of drama.

So am I. :)

You pay for cable/satellite and can't spare $7.99 a month to watch AMC/OLTL?

Some people might not have a choice. In order to watch any television, you have to pay for some kind of cable or satellite package, even if it's the most basic. (But you're right: if you're paying in excess of $100 per month for cable, you really don't have room to complain.)

Maybe the shows were never intended to air on TOLN. Maybe that site is intended to be a general information site. But I agree, the name is confusing.

If I check them out on Hulu and I like what I see, I'll...stick with Hulu. Because, I'm lazy and I'm cheap.

With balanced, good writing you can make the worst actor a star. With writing that lacks balance and with writing that plain stinks you can make the best actor obnoxious.

True. Now ask me if trust these new writers not to write these shows in the same old ways. wink.png

(Yes, I was enthusiastic about Susan Bedsow Horgan and Thom Racina's hiring at OLTL. But that was before they decided Destiny had to become an, um, "escort" to take care of her baby.)

We might need JR for AMC 2.0, for example, along with Bianca or Kendall (notice I said "or"), but do we really need Griffin and Cara? Or even Zach, for that matter? And even though I wasn't a fan of Destiny's, as the mother of Bo Buchanan's grandson on OLTL 2.0, she, along with baby-daddy Matthew, is essential. But why, aside from the fact that he turns on some people, is Cutter necessary for OLTL, too? Why is David Vickers? Or even the Port Charles Three? Hell, I'm not sure OLTL needs even Clint anymore!

First, you know I love you so please don't take what I'm about to say the wrong way...

Why do YOU get to decide who or what is necessary?! (wait for it...) And for that matter, why should I?

I know what you're saying but I think you are coming at this from a subjective place. You have characters/actors you love and others you hate. We all do. I could easily take a red pen to both cast lists.

You ask if AMC really needs Griffin and Cara. I think it does and I'm more than willing to argue with you why. You think Destiny and Matthew are essential. Are they so essential that people should overlook a storyline that may be teeming with the same racism and misogyny that has infected this genre for years? (I say "may" be teeming because none of us really know how that will play out.) Is Destiny more "essential" than, say, Rachel Gannon? OTOH, I don't think AMC needs Zach and I don't think OLTL needs David Vickers but they've got them so maybe the writers can make it work.

Plus, we have no idea what new stories, characters or actors these shows will bring us. Did Jackson "need" a foster son? Probably not but that brought us Reggie/MBJ. Did Dorian need a daughter? Because without that story there would be no Bitchy Bangs.

Again, I'm torn. When it comes to wanting these shows to change I'm at the front of the line but I have actors and characters that I long to see again even if it doesn't make sense.

All we can do is wait to see what these shows have to offer and hope for the best.

The last thing AMC needs is to lose Lindsay Hartley, its best hope for individuals driving non-core story in at least ten years. And JV isn't bad either.
