HOLIDAY MIRACLE: Prospect Park Back On Track To Revive AMC and OLTL

  • Member

WTF!!!!!

EXCLUSIVE: Here is a great holiday gift for soap fans: I’ve learned that Prospect Park has revived its plan to continue cancelled ABC daytime dramas All My Children and One Life To Live online. I hear the company behind USA hit Royal Pains has inked deals with SAG-AFTRA and DGA for the soaps’ production, eyed to begin in the first quarter of 2013.

If MMP and DRT had been allowed to devote more time to showing Jack and Bo & Hope's respective therapy sessions with Marlena it would have done nothing to change the fact that the show was b-o-r-i-n-g.

I keep remembering more and more of their awfulness. Like when they devoted an entire episode (might even have been more than one episode?) to the "climax" (and I use the term loosely) to their lame online gambling "story" (and I use the term loosely). Quinn and that stupid martial arts spa. Carrie and Rafe's riveting search for a missing cat. God it was awful.

Don't forget Rafe and Carrie spending what seemed like almost an entire episode rubbing ice cubes over themselves! Not to mention eggbaby.

Anyway - these are ideas I had for an AMC story last year. I never did write it up. It's a lot of crap but some you may enjoy or see as workable. I'll put it in spoiler space so it won't clog up the thread.

The story I'd planned to write involved multiple people being shot by JR, which is one of the reasons I never put it anywhere - with all the shootings this past year I thought it would be tasteless.

Those shot would include Frankie, Ryan (paralyzing him and leading Greenlee to once and for all realize she wasn't in love with him and would rather search for Leo - after she tries, very fake, to be the "good wife," she cheats on him, and leaves town), Joe (not life-threatening at first but months later it comes back and brings back much of the family, even Amy Tyler, and, secretly, Bobby, who ran away from home because he just felt lost and aimless, was upset about Phil, who he looked up to a little, going to Vietnam, he could see that his father was in love with Ruth and felt like this was a betrayal - Bobby had fallen into a bad crowd in New York and after a year or two ended up working as an undercover agent, which would eventually tie him to Mike Roy, Erica, and the Orpheus stuff).

I would have Zach, who wasn't shot, die of old injuries while waiting at the hospital with Kendall. Both of Kendall's men being out of commission would bring back Trey, who cares about Kendall, but still has an agenda against Erica as well as Jack. I would have Reggie back for this, as he at first has an ugly "reunion" with Trey but then they become closer, which Jack is not happy with at all.

I would have Bobby Warner return, still something of a con artist, and have him slowly get together with Kevin Sheffield, who has inherited a ton of money, but still chooses to move back into Opal's boarding house. Bring Kelsey back to get involved with some of this. Have Kevin with some blinders on regarding Bobby, who is mostly just wanting the money and isn't sure how to react when Kevin, who wants to "fix" things since his own life has been pretty lonely, reunites him with Sam, reunites him with Cliff and Nina, etc. Bobby, who doesn't want his family to see him and feels like a loser and a con artist, lashes out at Kevin, and the truth comes out, he tells Kevin everything, then gets in a motorcycle accident and ends up in a coma. Kevin is furious and upset and a million things, but has to keep quiet, because now Bobby's family actually believes he's a good person, and he doesn't want to take that away from them.

When Nina comes back she buys Fusion on behalf of Cortlandt Electronics, and promptly shuts it down for its silly and dated idea of women, although due to Palmer's fondness for Kendall, she lets Kendall work at CE. Nina and Cliff have the "perfect" marriage, but in reality haven't shared a conversation or a bed for years. Nina is soon wooed by a younger man, while Cliff, as much as he fights it, begins falling in love with Angie again - he'd never stopped, he had just gone back to Nina for the sake of the children. Angie still loves Jesse, but she also has some feelings for Cliff, and Jesse's anxiety and hurt when he learns of the old Angie/Cliff relationship makes everything more complicated.

JR, after a suicide attempt, is in a coma, and Marisa tries to kill him. David catches her and stops her in time. Marisa is disgusted that Bianca is spending so much time at JR's bedside, and asks Bianca to choose. Bianca, disturbed by Marisa's behavior, says she needs a break from their relationship. Marisa leaves town. Bianca raises the kids on her own, as well as helping with Kendall's kids, and runs herself ragged. When JR does eventually wake up, Bianca helps him recover, and clashes with her family over wanting JR to go to an institution for lengthy treatment instead of wanting him prosecuted. Kendall is particularly upset about this. Finally, as JR is about to leave, she realizes just how far gone he is, and that he'd once been her best friend, and tenderly tells him goodbye.

Dixie tries to spend time at JR's bedside, but is plagued by nightmares about the mysterious patient, to the point where she can barely even spend time with Kate. Ultimately she pleads with David to tell her who it was. He says it will change her life forever, and is she ready to make that choice. She says she is. He takes her to a very secret room. Hooked up to machines is her brother, Will. Dixie is horrified. David says he was one of the first Orpheus "projects" David had become aware of, and he'd kept Will alive mostly because of Dixie. Dixie has to decide whether Will lives or dies. Dixie has lost everyone, and one of her biggest regrets was the destruction of her relationship with Will. She asks for him to be saved. When Dixie tells the family, Tad is angry that she would make a huge decision like this without asking him first. Opal tells her she has betrayed her uncle and didn't she remember that Will had broken Palmer's heart. She tells Dixie she's putting her children in danger, and that she hasn't been there for the kids. Dixie snaps that Opal knew NOTHING about what Palmer would have wanted, and never to lecture anyone about being a bad mother. This creates a rift between them which Tad is caught between. He's also torn between the Will he knew, who was a basically decent, if somewhat scheming, man, and the horror stories he's heard.

When Will wakes up and starts the recovery process, he initially can't remember the last year of his life. When Hayley hears that he's still alive, she flies to Pine Valley, punching him, and pushing for him to be arrested. There's some legal question about the years since Gloria's rape and the attack on Hayley, but Will turns himself in, horrified as he starts to remembered what he'd become. Will is given a suspended sentence and many hours of community service at Brooke's homeless shelter (now co-run by Frankie). Hayley tells him that he in spite of everything she'd gone through when she'd grown up, she still had hope, until him, that he'd taken away the last of her innocence, and her joy. She says she'll be watching him.

Will is guilt-ridden and in spite of knowing better, he manages to track down Gloria, who works at a ministry. Dixie agrees to contact Gloria on Will's behalf, which angers much of her family, with only Stuart supporting her decision, saying the choice should be Gloria's. Stuart and Dixie talk to Gloria, and she meets Will, briefly. She says she has forgiven him, but will never be able to forget. She laments the people who told her she was "lucky" and that being raped had made her a "good" person. She tells him if he wants to repent, leave her alone, and continue to work for charities.

Will hears a blowout between Dixie and most of the Martins, and combined with his guilt and shame, he runs, planning to throw himself off a bridge. As he stands on the bridge, a car stops. It's Skye, who is back in town to run CE on Adam's behalf. Like Tad, she had heard of all that he'd done, but in her head, could never fully process this with the Will she'd known. She convinces him to keep trying, and they become very close friends. They both want more but he can't go near a woman after what he did to Hayley and Gloria. He spends much of his time in therapy. Skye supports him, even though this ruins the relationship with Hayley she'd been rebuilding. Skye has a fling with Trey, all sex, nothing else, and uses him in corporate espionage against Cortlandt, which draws Kendall in as well, along with Nina, Pete, and many others. Will is torn, since that is his family company, but the family outside of Dixie wants nothing to do with him, so he supports Skye.

Skye and Will go out to dinner and someone they used to know long ago sees them and says, "You look exactly the same!" They try to smile, knowing just what a lie that is. When they go back to her place that night, they think of the past, and end up having sex. They're both conflicted about this, made even worse when Will tells Skye that he loves her. Skye doesn't want to hear the word "love" from anyone, and begins to distance herself from him.

Will starts helping out at Cortlandt, and befriends Kendall. One night, just as Skye is beginning to have second thoughts about a relationship with Skye, she walks in as Will and Kendall kiss (nothing beyond that - I'd just have them as friends). Skye barks, "How fitting that you end with a rapist, Kendall." Kendall hits her and this starts more of a feud with them. Meanwhile, Will, who tries to stay away from Dixie and now cuts his ties with Skye, is torn between a darker path and being a good man.

I've also had a scene in my head for a long time where Dixie and Will go to see Palmer.

Will: Have you been here since...?

Dixie: I couldn't face it. I don't know what to...

Will: Neither do I.

<Dixie touches one of the fresh flowers left at his mausoleum>

Will: We'll let him do the talking.

What about what they did to Alice Horton all that crap for nothing.

lol and the next writers ignored it by saying J/M and B/H are married without ever acknowledging that retcon plot

In my fantasy world Peter Bergmen leaves Y&R and joins AMC 2.0 (Once AMC 2.0 is up and running) and reunites with Nina. That would certainly boost the ratings!

LOL! I thought that allmc2008 was talking about Jack Manning! tongue.png

Me too! In either case, I would enjoy hearing Shane or Erica Kane dub their respective Jacks "Jack-off".

Carl, this is great stuff. I could picture much of it, namely the confrontation between Dixie and Opal. Is there more to the person saying Skye and Will look exactly the same? I thought you were about to reveal another long lost character.

I hadn't thought of that. That could work, especially since that era (89-91) had so many come and go.

I also had a little more with the Hubbards - I would have Frankie become depressed after being shot and breaking up with Randi (who wasn't actually pregnant). He focuses a lot of his pain on a city councilman he sees as lazy and corrupt and out of touch. Angie knew the man well when she was a young woman and this causes some conflict between mother and son. The man dies, and Frankie runs for the seat. Someone who doesn't want him on the council airs his past mistakes and he reluctantly drops out. Angie decides to run in his place, and wins.

The fellow writing the OLTL book is teasing that a "biggie" is close to finalizing a deal.

http://www.facebook.com/oltlbook

I just saw that. I hope it is true.

And regardless of who else jumps on board new boot, I hope Erika does....It is just wouldn't be OLTL with her.

Here is that conversation....

Just got off the phone with Jerry verDorn, who shared a few encouraging details regarding the One Life to Live revival underway at Prospect Park...

Boost ratings? No offense, but I doubt they'd cause a spark.

Agreed. Clint and Nina really havent been relevant to AMC in over 2 decades despite her making a few brief appearances. I dont think having them on together would be a huge draw.
