Speaking of, I'm catching up on my marathon stories to watch and I see they omitted a number of Dalek stories, presumably due to what must be the umpteenth legal battle with Terry Nation's estate or something.

Doctor Who will premiere on Sunday, October 7 with a simulcast with the UK premiere during the day and a rerun in its later regular time slot, which will be announced later.

An interesting development, given that it’s premiering the same night as The Walking Dead, on an AMC Networks sister channel. I wonder if they’ll do a simulcast on AMC as a lead-in to TWD to capture some of that audience?

I can’t help but think there will be some minor cannibalization of the sci-fi/fantasy audience, especially with Supergirl and later Outlander all airing on Sundays. I guess they are banking on a big Live+3 boost.

Sundays are just a super-competitive night unlike Saturdays, especially during NFL season. I’m sure the UK forced their hand in this case (Saturday nights are more competitive there), but BBCA is also building up Sunday as a marquee night with the success of Killing Eve. Fans seem to be annoyed with the move from Saturdays, though. Orphan Black really tanked when it moved from Saturdays to Thursdays.

Glad Freema is doing well.

The BBC decided to put an article on their site a few days ago that said Peter Capaldi was not "universally loved." While that is true (and no actor is "universally loved" as the Doctor) it seemed remarkably churlish, given how much Capaldi did for the show and what a lifelong fan he is. Some fans and even past cast members like Anneke Wills were tweeting in support of him yesterday. The whole thing just reminded me of why I'm so wary of getting back into the show again.

Capaldi was very popular as the Doctor, along with most before him. I don't see why they'd run him down.

That other quote from Piers Wenger of all people - dismissing apparently all Whittaker's predecessors (not just Capaldi) as having "daffiness and idiosyncrasy" and her being "relatable" by comparison - is really horribly tin-eared. Why on Earth?

Freema was the ONLY good thing about New Amsterdam. We’ve seen it all before with that show. It’s really nice to see her, Billie, and Karen, who were all pretty green (though all charismatic) when they started on DW, develop successful, varied careers.

I’m really not impressed with the BBC’s marketing around the new season. I know they are trying to grab a new audience, as they do after any regeneration because it’s a fresh start for viewers, but it feels a bit forced

BBCA is pushing the global simulcast for the season premiere, which airs at 1:45 pm ET next Sunday. I think they know they’ll be killed on Sunday during primetime (I’m not sure they’ve even announced a regular time slot), presumably as The Walking Dead premiere (with Andrew Lincoln’s last episodes) and NFL suck all of the air out of the evening. And in their post-premiere press release, they’ll push some BS about the cumulative viewership between the afternoon and nighttime broadcasts.

Capaldi was much more than "Cranky Grandpa."

I really haven't heard anything good about the premiere and very little good about Whittaker's performance (I saw someone saying she was trying to be like David Tennant, someone I grew to find unbearable). Not sure it's worth watching.

    • I think Dani cares about her sister, but I agree with you. She's using this whole mess to be heard and make herself feel better. I wish Ted and Eva told her to fck off. I had to laugh when Dani commented on her and Anita confronting Ted. She acted as if they destroyed him. That's not what I saw. Dani has been dialed back from those first weeks, but I can't say she's likable. As long as she's throwing shade at Eva for her work as a hairstylist -- while ignoring that she did nothing except eat celery sticks and walk the runway -- she can kiss off. Barely tolerable, and Lindstrom is terrible in the role. I don't find him scary at all, and his money laundering plan is stupid as hell. I gagged when he texted Vanessa to ask if she was thinking about him. That's throw up time.   I just don't see how that makes Ashley any more interesting. And are we really asking for another storyline where a father connects with his adult daughter? I know there's no direct parallel to Eva's story, but come on. If you're in the minority, I'll join you. I have zero interest in any of that. -- I still fail to see Nicole and Vanessa as best friends. Nicole is grounded and stable and responsible, and Vanessa is not. It made more sense to have Dani and Vanessa being close. -- Ashley and Derek were actually OK today. I feel sorry for the actors, honestly, because they've been given nothing. It's crazy, because so much of the rest of the show is firing on all cylinders.
    • Same. But given how the writers like to have her have good moments and bad moments...and Dani has been background as of late...it's about time she had some bad moments.
    • I don’t even know why you responded to the bait.
    • I only watch for Sharon and she’s barely on. The only good thing going at the moment is Jack and Diane scenes and they’ve made Diane such a wuss lately which is making that unbearable to watch too
    • I feel like Earl Hamner and his crew brought in Richard* BECAUSE they knew almost right away that Robert Foxworth was so dull as Chase.  At any event, Richard, IMO, proved to be much more interesting as Angela's chief adversary. (*Or brought him back, depending on whether we're including the original "Vintage Years" pilot).
    • And it will also eventually air S2, which will air its finale in Canada this Thursday, May 15th! https://tvline.com/news/law-and-order-toronto-criminal-intent-season-1-2-the-cw-1235449356/ As an American that has managed to watch it in real time, it's very good. Frankly, I think it's the best of the L&O franchise as of now.
    • You are getting like me. It's getting to the point that without any Damian sightings...it's been the fashion that is holding my interest. And it should not be that way at all.
    • I don't mind Jan either. If anything, they could be using her more to get her daughter's POV. Not to mention her role as one of the Have-Nots.    I also don't mind the local talent. Just look at soaps that were in NY or the shows that film there, they always go for the local talent and we get to find new faves.
    • I'm not going to watch (because...well...that M-dude...lol) but knowing the history between Henry and Roger, I could see Henry wanting to enable Hart to stay independent of Roger. I could even see it as Henry having the last laugh at Roger. Roger hated "the Henry's" of the world, which basically meant anyone who had money and social prominence. Twice Roger swindled Henry out of a chunk of his fortune, so giving some to Hart, who hates his father, is a form of karma.
