We've had a dozen threads but never one collective thread. And what good timing, starting this AFTER the season just went on hiatus. I was still so depressed about the last episode I decided to start this.

The obsession of my youth, a show I couldn't actually believe came back. I've always had slightly mixed emotions on the return but when it's good it gets right to your heart more than almost anything else in entertainment can. And when the right companion comes along, I become very attached (see my breaking my 3 and a half year avatar allergy).

I wish Amy and Rory had been able to just leave of their own volition, but barring that, the last scenes were heartbreaking and harrowingly acted by everyone involved, especially underrated Matt Smith, probably the actor who has best captured the Doctor's spirit since the 70s.

I loved Jenna Louise Coleman on Emmerdale and her first episode showed promise. I do wonder how they will bring that character back. If it's the same characters, before her death, then the Doctor will have to spend all his time not telling her or River he saw them die. Awkward.

And then Doctor Who fandom always has first rate vids. For example:

The Capaldi outfit reminds me of a more tailored version of Pertwee's doctor...

The Doctor and Clara on location - in costume - in Cardiff. With video. I can't hear much of anything, but it looks like it's near the regeneration - Clara still has the same outfit from TOTD, while Twelve is in his new duds - and she is finally coming around. Quite a lot of a scene, bit of a silent film.

Here's the crazy part - word is that after Clara finishes her phone call, Capaldi supposedly says

"the man on the phone is right here - standing in front of you." Rumor has it that the reason the phone in the TARDIS was off the hook at the close of TOTD is because the Eleventh Doctor calls Clara in the scene shown above, just to pave the way for the new man. Whether or not they show Smith I have no idea.

I think it'd be a mistake to show it, but it is a ballsy idea.

As has been rumored for a while, the Doctor and Clara are getting a fellow companion: Clara's fellow Coal Hill schoolteacher Danny Pink.

Per Moffat:

For the fourth time in Doctor Who history, Coal Hill School is coming to the aid of the TARDIS. In 1963 teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright accompanied the First Doctor. These days it’s the turn of Jenna Coleman as Clara Oswald. And very soon now, Sam Anderson as Danny Pink will be entering the world of the Doctor. But how and why? Answers are coming later this year in Peter Capaldi’s first series of Doctor Who!

It will be good to see another companion, if this is the case. Not sure if that's where they're going with this. I do miss male companions (and I hope there may not be a romance, although if there is one, that's OK too).

I remember him on Emmerdale. He was on around the same time as JLC. They left around the same time. He was part of the umbrella story about the crooked cop who dated Jasmine's friend/lover Debbie, and who tried to rape Jasmine when he caught her in his apartment, digging for info.

He wasn't a good actor, but that was about five years ago, and his main story (in love with his horsy police partner, Donna) was crap, so he might be better now.

I had heard rumblings about a romance. But I have no idea where they're going with the character, except that I believe he is a companion.

Peter Capaldi and Jenna Coleman chat with a young fan Dalek while filming in Cardiff Bay. It's hard to make out, but Capaldi is talking about the last Doctor and is asking the little Dalek for permission to be the Doctor too.

According to the scuttlebutt, the little girl in the Dalek costume is an autistic child who loved Matt Smith and was very nervous about the new Doctor.

This is so sweet. It's easy to forget how much the show, and the Doctor, mean to children, especially children who, like the Doctor, are trapped in their own worlds no one else can understand.

Presented by Jerome Flynn, the guy who plays Sam, and the lovely Sophie Turner, Doctor Who won a BAFTA that clearly no one involved with the show actually expected them to win.

Too bad Adventure in Space and Time didn't win anything.
