Hope Bauer Spaulding. It was weird, as she was still young enough to be a romantic leading lady, and had connections to (obviously) Ed, Mo, Rick, and Alan, A-M (her son) and Phillip (her step son.) Even when they brought A-M back and had him ridiculously get married every two years they never brought her back or even mentioned her..even to say they were estranged. A few mentions included A-M to Alex "You never liked my mother," Alex:"That is not true at all, I never had anything against your mother," and Alan to Mike at the anniversary show "How is Hope," Mike, "Alan, don't ever talk to me about Hope,"

It was particularly annoying when Weston and then Kreizman retro wrote that nun to be the love of Alan's life...when we all knew it was Hope.

The odd thing is that SOD said in 1985 or 1986 that they were bringing Hope back, and expect her to have a very different personality.

I guess Rita must be in this too. It's telling that even though Rita had no big lasting connections on the show (like "legacy children"), so many still wanted her back for decades.

I always thought Marcia McCabe would have made an ideal Hope, although way too young to have a grown son. Maybe that's why we never saw Hope?

True, but that was idealistic, loving Alan. After Alan became cold and rigid he still loved Hope, so its almost like he was two different people. I hated it when they wrote it like Alan was always evil.

Which Samantha didn't. The recast was immediate and she later left with Kirk. It was one long stint only with two different actresses having played the part.

Samantha left in summer or fall 1996 with B Alexander in the role. She didn't come back until spring 1997 (played by that Big Bird woman).

Was Brooke A's Sam given an exit story then? I don't remember. My viewership during this time is fuzzy because I was back to AW, after having watched pretty much all of Maura West's 1st stint on ATWT.
