March 1, 201214 yr Author Member I know, TV land has lost it's way... but hey! Antenna TV knows what their audience wants.
March 1, 201214 yr Member So sad I actually sort of associate him with the Brady Bunch episode more than I do with The Monkees, but I like him on that, too. That's nothing to be ashamed of. People laugh at the Bradys but there is no denying how deeply ensconced they are in pop culture. This is how the Chicago Sun Times led their Davy Jones articke: "Poor, poor Marcia Brady. Davy Jones, “the cute one” among TV’s “The Monkees,” died of a heart attack Wednesday in Florida. He was 66." And the NY Times, as sober a newspaper as ever there was one wrote in their obit: The only actual Englishman of the four, Mr. Jones was inclined to elicit the loudest shrieks of all. An index of his appeal was his guest appearance on a memorable episode of “The Brady Bunch” from 1971 entitled “Getting Davy Jones.” In it, Mr. Jones, playing himself, saves Marcia, the family’s eldest daughter, from social ruin by attending her prom." And the Washington Post's blog has the article "When Davy Jones Met Marcia Brady" : "Davy Jones, who died this morning of a heart attack at the reported age of 66, was best known for making music and starring in his own TV show, “The Monkees .” But when many people heard the sad news today of Jones’s death, one of the first things they may have flashbacked to was “The Brady Bunch” episode, “Getting Davy Jones.” That was the season three classic in which a determined Marcia Brady — president of the Fillmore Junior High Davy Jones Fan Club — bragged about the fact that she could get the esteemed Mr. Jones to perform at her prom and grew distraught when she realized this might not happen just because he wrote her a nice letter. What happened after that, arguably, may have set a precedent for the modern approach to celebrity worship, one in which the average citizen thinks it’s entirely possible to score a date with a famous person simply by making a charming YouTube video. " It does seem like Davy and Marcia foretold the story of Justin Timberlake and the marine who wanted a date. I think it is nice that Davy was not forgotten and his death was noted and noticed, but I guess that is because all baby boomers know who he was and remember him, his tv show and their theme, and Marcia. March 1, 201214 yr Member I remember listening to a Monkees record in my neighbor friend's house (♫My steppin' stone!♫) when my somber-faced sister came to the door to take me home. My father then told me that my grandmother had died. Meanwhile, doesn't Micky Dolenz favor David Canary? Edited March 1, 201214 yr by SFK

March 1, 201214 yr Author Member Qfan... he's also remembered alot because they had a huge second generation following in the 80's, when I was in high school. As Micky says in the Piers interview, their 20th anniversary tour in 1986 was the biggest grossing tour of that year, and in August of 1986, they set a billboard chart record by having SEVEN albums on the Billboard top 200 album chart simultaneously.
