Unpopular Opinions: 2012 Edition

I'll go first:

B&B

- While not perfect, the show is currently in the best shape it's been in since 2003.

Y&R

- Genie Francis is terrific as Genevieve Atkinson. I know she wasn't well liked in her first few months on her show, but I'm currently watching June 2011 episodes and I LOVE her campy take on the character, despite the overall wretchedness of the storyline. Although I never saw Francis on GH, so I don't have that to compare it to. I'd love to see her on B&B in a Sally Spectra/Jackie Marone type role.

- Phyllis is one of very few characters to actually flourish under MAB (save for the Lucy custody madness). And of course, I still consider La Stafford to be the best actress in daytime.

- Maura West was AT LEAST as miscast as Diane as Shari Shattuck was as Ashley.

Was I the only one who found TC and Nik boring and didn't care that he was fired? It's not like he didn't already have another job anyway.

thats not an unpopular opinion. TC was as bored with Nik as you and many fans were

I know he was bored that's another reason why I didn't care cuz it's not like he put effort into his work yet he was getting paid alot of money.

I think he actually tried maybe his first 2 years back and then "Burtoned" out for the rest of his second run. He's not missed and doesn't really fit the canvas anymore anyway.

Y&R I don't think MAB is the problem, or at least the largest part of it.

I do wonder if there would be a significant improvement if MAB had complete autonomy, without any Sony/CBS interference. We know Sony was behind the Maura West thing, we know Sony is forcing her to keep Goddard/LANE and I'm almost positive Sony is the reason Scott Hamner is still there.

I think the whole crushing or thinking someone is sexy who could be your father or grandfather isn't really an unpopular thing at all.

Dominic Zamprogna and Brandon Barash both turn 33 this year (as well as I, Lord help me!). They haven't really been too specific over last couple years about Dante's age, but they've been VERY adamant about letting us know that Olivia and Dante are 15 years apart. So, whatever age Olivia's supposed to be (and we'll never know for this exact reason), minus 15 from that. As for Johnny, when Kristina was using Johnny to make Sonny angry, they kept alluding to Johnny being closer to 30 preying on 17 year old Kristina. However, with the rewrite that Johnny was Claudia's son, it's hard to determine if they're attempting to de-age Johnny or SORAS Claudia in absentia.

I guess we'll find out whenever she comes back from the dead and is recast. ph34r.png

Lisa Locicero and I are about the same age. It is really depressing that she can play the mother of a 33 year old actor who looks 33.

Another one of my opinions. I hate that B&B allows Susan Flannery to wear her natural hair. She's a great actress who should understand that she's playing the part of someone heavily involved in the fashion industry and not a truck driver. Throw a wig on her and some clothes that would actually suit the part. For the record, I think her personal style is fine, but Susan Flannary is not Stephanie Forrester.

and if it were to change i do think AH could pull it off.

She can't.

Amelia is & has always been a B story heroine at best & while the writing for Victoria has been horrible for years Amelia has made the character unrecognizable.

As an actress she's really only popular with newer Y&R viewers.

I, personally, cheer on Heinle in the face of all the hate. It has nothing to do with Y&R fans disliking her, but everything to do with her working steadily after Julie Cowudders and Megan McTavish had gotten rid of her to make room for Alexa Havins on AMC.

YES! The show was actually quite good when MAB was writing it, Griffith was EP, and Hamner/Sheffer were nowhere near it.

I did not like GH's 4 musketeers not only were they a rip off of two soaps who had them prior to, but I found them pretty cheesy despite their serious storylines and didn't really care much until Gia showed up.

Lisa is what, 43? likely playing 45ish as Olivia is Sonny's age. If she was 15 when she had Dante, that would make him 30. Not far off from 33.

B&B may be horribly cliched and produce the same tired storylines over and over, but out of all the soaps (even when AMC, GL, ATWT, and OLTL were on the air) it is by far the most classicly attractive soap. And when I say attractive, I mean it just looks better, set wise, cast wise (yes), wardrobe wise, storyline wise...for me it still feels like I'm watching a Soap Opera. I don't watch daytime to see them trying to replicate primetime or movies, I watch for SOAPS!! I don't even really like the show, but whenever I watch it, I just feel like I'm back in the days when I first started watching soaps.

And it doesn't hurt they they have the Baddest Bitch on Daytime TV in Jacqueline MacInnes Wood. I wish every soap had a vixen like her, She is classic soap through and through.

I'd say Y&R comes a close second though. And I think that is why those two have done the best.

Oh I so disagree. The wardrobe on the show is pretty bad. They've had like 2 fashion overhauls in the last year or 2 and it hasnt produced any better material. For a show in LA in the fashion industry, you'd think they'd dress better

The show definetly could have used a set overhaul a few years ago

I think the location footage is beautiful.

Taylor's wardrobe is hilarious - not sure if that's intentional.

I think I'd like Steffy more if she actually was a vixen.

This whole triangle with Steffy/Liam/Hope is written in a way where it's tough to understand what the show is saying. Are we supposed to agree with Bill that Hope is damaged for life? That's a pretty repulsive view.
