In case it's not been mentioned: John Wesley Shipp (ATWT, OLTL) is playing Jay Garrick, the Golden Age Flash, on CW's The Flash - he was, of course, the original Flash in the 90s show on CBS. (His youthful imposter was played by OLTL's Teddy Sears.)

Guiding Light Discussion Thread

India's 1990 stint was far more successful than her 1998-1999 stint because she was used more effectively in that 1990 visit with her sparring with step mother dearest Alex, having a position at Spaulding, and I think even had a few toe to toe scenes with Roger as well. Her Christmas 1990 good bye to Phillip/Beth was so in keeping with their history with Beth hugging India and then India saying that's why she has to leave in order to avoid that becoming a regular thing.
Her 1998 to 1999 stint seemed tacked on with her primarily only interacting with Ross, Blake, and Ben with occasional interactions with Beth and Alex. She and Ron Raines had a nice rapport and the show did seem to be setting up the two possibly teaming up and/or becoming involved before she stopped appearing on the show.
Her 2002 stint was short, but very sweet.

I hope we aren't. As long as Wayne Northrop was still alive and capable of returning to the show AS Roman, I held out hope. However, he's gone now, and Josh Taylor and Deidre Hall just don't share that type of chemistry. I'd much rather see Marlena in a relationship with someone new (after an appropriate period of mourning, of course, lol).

The way it immediately impacted the Q’s feels very Guza to me too because it quickly stops being about them. One thing Labine did was center the Quartermaines, and we would have seen more of Monica and Alan in relation to Jason than him immediately being shifted towards Sonny, Robin, and helping to bring Carly onto the scene. We did see them, but the story quickly shifts away from the family as the focal point.

I agree. I understand that the budget for S14 was peanuts, but I do believe more of an effort should've been made to tie up not just the past 1-2 seasons, but the series overall.
As I've said in the past, Karen could've called Richard to help defend Mack on the murder charges (which would've laid the groundwork for a hookup and HEA for Richard and Anne). Lilimae could've returned for a few episodes to help Gary look after the twins after Val's disappearance (and make passive-aggressive comments about Kate). Gary could've crossed paths with Ben while looking for Val in Florida (and as the two search for her, they bury the hatchet). Cathy could've easily popped up again (this time, in an abusive relationship with Nigel Treadwell, whom she met while on tour in Europe). And even though it would've been a long shot, maybe - just maybe - they could've persuaded Constance McCashin to make a few appearances as Laura's spirit/Greg's conscience as he deals with the task force stuff.

I think that's because they realized (too late) that Lance Guest was just wrong for that role.
I could quibble about how Steve was introduced - a granola-eating hippie who lives out of his van? Seriously, KNOTS? - but in order for such a crazy storyline to work, he needed to be played by someone who was very dynamic; a little earnest at first, sure, but he definitely needed smoldering good looks, with just the right touch of mischief. Guest had none of that.
Not to mention the whiplash we got from the Brian Johnston storyline, which went from "Brian likes to videotape his sexual encounters (and Linda's on one of those tapes)" to "Brian has disappeared and is wanted by the authorities". Wait, what, lol?
And Karen's "Walking Tall" storyline - with the needless twist of Jason being in that car - definitely felt tacked on, as if they were afraid they didn't have a juicy enough cliffhanger to run in ads. The Lechowicks left the show in such a mess, lol.

Well, I don't think a pregnant Lois hanging around Jax would have been the best look regardless. Obviously I have 0 problem with Jax ending up with Brenda. I like the idea of introducing a new character and having them chemistry test around town instead of having a super set plan.
Honestly Jason's accident and Jax feel very Guza to me. I have no idea though. While Labine loved some depressing stories Stone dying on top of Jason being in an accident feels like too much for Labine. How much more can we hurt Robin? Lol.

That shifted pretty quickly because Rena didn’t decide to leave until later on. That whole HW transition is very interesting, because MVJ and Guza both said Labine was very good to work with as far as letting them set stuff up so they hit the ground running. Carly being one thing we now know Labine didn't create. I would love for MVJ to speak about Jason’s accident and Jax, because I still have questions as to who set both in motion and when.
Guza had no problem setting things up and tweaking things very noticeably before his name hits the credits on several of his tenures at GH.
