Members Khan
It should have, but I don't think that was Frons' or the network's goal. Remember, the purpose was not to outdo AMC, ratings-wise, but to achieve the same ratings, if not better, for less money. There's a difference. Members marceline
Which articles? Granted, it benefits SON to declare The Chew a failure. That plays to this site's base. But I think even SON posted an article months back that showed that The Chew was a decent business decision based on the numbers. Show me someone who is declaring The Chew a business failure. Girl, so. would. I.
Members Khan
Point taken. On the other hand, I don't think GH viewers are as willing as to hang in with their show as DAYS fans were and are with theirs. That's not a knock on GH fans' loyalty. I just feel like GH fans, like GUIDING LIGHT fans before them, question whether there is anything about GH right now that's worth saving.
Members dragonflies
I wonder how Burton & Benard feel about this given Frons was their biggest supporter/protector
Members DRW50
ABC put out a press release bragging about The Chew beating AMC. They set that level for themselves, so I just follow what they say.
Members OLTL_fan
Kinda too late of course but at least GH may get the ending fans want instead of Frons.
Members Eric83
Who cares? Our soaps are dead. Had this happened in 2007 or 2008, I would gave been very excited.
Members LeClerc
If Jori Peterson was being truthful (ha!) when she said that the highest-rated shows will survive Katie's arrival then GH has a real chance now with Valentini/Carlivati coming in and, most likely, being left pretty much alone to do whatever the the heck want with it. Members quartermainefan
That may just be what they are saying. I remember reading in the NY Post gossip section months ago that ABC wanted him out.
Members dragonflies
They could be letting him save face too. I firmly believe he was the fall guy for Sweeny & Co
Members JackPeyton
So, GH will be axed in about a month?
Members Dana
I hate to say it, but Frons isn't the only one who made decisions about the soaps. So even though he'll be gone, the people above him are still there. I think they all want out of the soap business, unless perhaps Frank V. can get the budget for GH down pretty far. Then GH can hang on for a little while as the last soap for the network like DOOL seems to be doing for NBC.
Members dragonflies
I'm more curious what the Chew is doing in demos, overall viewers aren't what counts and ABC suddenly touting that with the Chew must mean demos aren't good LOL. Cause they've NEVER cared about overall viewers only demos
Members JaneAusten
Yeah Fron's final act will likely be to announce GH's departure This is all playing out exactly as an insider on one of the OLTL boards said back in Feb that ABC's plan was to ultimately turn daytime into a limited syndication model. Members OldGHFan
GH will probably still be cancelled but at least Frons' won't be there to meddle anymore. I'm beyond thrilled that he finally got the boot. 10 years too late but I'm still happy. Just hoping for a nice ending for GH now.
