Who is the first recast you remember?

I remember when SPW announced that she was going to be the new Jessica, and they made this sound permanent. Then some fan wrote in an angry letter about this, and they basically said, "Oops, sorry." At the time I was confused. Later of course we learned she really was supposed to be there permanently.

JFP destroyed so many characters - I wonder what she would have done to Jess if she could have. It finally took Erin Torpey leaving for the hatchets to come out.

This is a shot in the dark, but do you remember how someone wrote into SOD and was like, "I don't understand why Magdalena is being replaced as Jessica, I have watched her for years grow before my eyes and to see her replaced with Erin Torpey blah blah" and SOD answered like, "Uh, we don't know what show you've been watching, but it was Erin Torpey who has played Jessica all these years and returned to her role after Magdalena briefly replaced her..."

See, wow, that's scandalous, I didn't realize she was in fact meant to be permanent. I did hear the thing about ES threatening to quit (psshh, yeah, right) if ET (<<that's really funny when you think about it ph34r.png ) was fired, but I didn't realize they had actually made a move.

Dear SOD, I hope you'll settle a bet I have with my friend, a steak dinner is riding on this (!), but is Lila's dog Annabelle played by the same pooch who played Buck on Married With Children? I believe they are both Briards as my late aunt raised the breed. My friend says they are not the same dog as Annabelle's ears are perky, but I explained that that can be done with wires. Help! -KF Hyattsville, MD

Well pass the A-1 sauce... to your friend! And the bill to yourself, because no, while you are correct that they are both Briards, Annabelle is not the same dog as Buck who passed away shortly after MWC went off the air.

I really have to wonder how passionately ES stood behind ET, that would have been an interesting question for her archive interview or her newsletter for that matter. She's also said really *lovely* things about FF which has also made me... wonder.

The first recast I ever remember was Hillary Smith replacing Margaret Colin on ATWT. I was new to soaps and didn't think you could do such a thing! LOL I loved MC and swore I would never watch ATWT again. Although I hated Smith at first, she ironically became my all-time favorite Margo Hughes. I still remember the bitchy interplay between she and Colleen Zenk. Glorious!

    • This better be something, because as I said, so far it's just cliches and stereotypes -- the story we've heard a thousand times about the homeless person who doesn't want a home and prefers to live on the streets.
    • @rsclassicfanforever thank you very much for the recent uploads of season 13 containing some episodes that were skipped or glitchy on YouTube!  I had a look at 3172 though and there is no audio for most of it? Would you have a copy with complete audio? Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
