He did wonders for Annie. I loved the Tornado as well. Plus I enjoyed his corporate Fusion with Amanda and Babe plotting to take it over while Adam was trying to buy it and Petey was a spy. Good stuff

I liked what he started out doing with Brot, Taylor and the war. It was a touchy subject that I thought he handled well and I thought the scenes of the VA support group were inspired.

Yeah his mom watches now that he's not writing LOL

LOL, mine does now too!

I still maintain the first 3-5 months with this guy at the helm was the most entertaining this show had been in years. He had balls in his writing, and at that point things badly needed shaking up. I agree it got ridiculous with the whole Josh/heart thing, Stuart's death, Adam/Annie, but he did one thing all of his other cohorts in the head writing dept. since 2005 could not do, and that is increase ratings. Whether you agree with his storylines or not, the ratings increases that came under him probably bought this show some time.

And lets not forget he did kill off Babe. I mean, if that isn't reason enough to at least give him a bit of credit, I don't know what is. Yeah he is an ass, very much so.... and I doubt he is a very nice person to be around, but he is the king when it comes to unadulterated soapy sleaze. After the year-long coma that B&E put this show in, we needed some sleaze.

4 things Pratt did good:

He killed Babe, The Fetus, brought Back David and VI won the emmy.

Pratt is a show killer but really I still contend McTavish and her unaborted fetus crap and the banana pancakes and the Cambias stuff were awful also. Good things under Pratt, the Tornado(he is the master of disaster sweeps not Guza), Jake and Amanda, and Annie all terrific. The bad everything else including that horrific Reese Bianca crap. Don't care if they were the wedding of all weddings, that whole storyline was just disgusting and Reese was a horrific character.

He did help ratings and I think the show was still performing better than it had when he was fired. I still believe he was fired due to all the complaints from the cast.

Yeah, Pratt wasn't all bad, he just didn't respect the history of the show. Pairing Ryan & Erica was just beyond dumb. But I have to give him kudos for killing both Josh & Babe, reforming Annie and bringing David back! Imo, Pratt wasn't half as bad as McTavish.

IA. I loved that early stuff too. I liked Taylor at the beginning at least.

I did too. I thought she was a refreshing change from the Fusion crew and I thought Beth Ehlers and CSJ had really nice (friend) chemistry. You could believe they served together.

He made Annie more likable and more interesting, and the tornado was interesting for its production value and for the fact that it spun everyone in Pine Valley into different directions. But what Pratt didn't do, perhaps even worse than McTavish, was even remotely consider who his characters are at their core. If something happened that was in-character, it was completely by chance or by the actor forcing it to occur in some way. But for the most part, characters acted off-the-wall. Erica's interest in Ryan was absurd, Liza was in every way Lexi from Melrose Place, Zach pushed a woman through a glass table and didn't seem to care, and David was reduced to being a "Michael Myers" always popping up and scaring people like Amanda. I know, that won Vincent Irizarry an Emmy... I'm sure it was specially awarded to him for making an impossible script better than anyone else could have.

It WAS exciting at first... There were good things that happened. But he ultimately damaged the show - in a different way than McTavish had. In tone and in terms of character writing, Pine Valley was completely off-course. Every story was written to be salacious... he went for making things as "juicy" and "tantalizing" as possible. Nothing was off-limits, nothing was ever considered to be offensive. Melrose Place eventually went downhill for a reason. "Anything goes" is not a way to write a story, and that's what did him in.

Brot has been so well-incorporated into the Hubbard family that his past with Taylor seems like a lifetime ago.

How was Erica unlikable?? I liked the stuff he did with her especially maintaining her & Adam's love/hate relationship, and I thought the Africa stuff was good to. I don't think Lucci was a fan of his work though lol

Gaslighting Adam and causing him to have a heart attack.

I have to say I HATED the Jesse rewrite of him having a secret common law wife and kid, while he was supposedly grieving alone bc he couldnt have Angie. That totally pissed on his return and what the show just did with him on the run trying to protect his family from danger. Made it look like he was lying and playing Angie. The only good thing of this was that it gave us Natalie, who I love.

I LOVED the Erica and Adam stuff. It seemed as if the show was headed forward to reuniting them and then out of nowhere he put her with Ryan and Adam with Annie instead. That pissed me off to no end

That's definitely a matter of opinion ;) Given all the horror he throwed out in his year and a half, I can only imagine what he would have done if he had four years like McTavish.

I actually think Megan was good until 2005 specifically, the second quarter of 2005 hit then it got progressively worse. I still say the show never recovered from the baby-switch.

Except for the fact that he created Marissa who is more or less a Babe insert. He killed off a character only to re-create her with the same background, same actions and same motivations. Pointless. Marissa is Babe hidden under another name.

McTavish raised ratings as well. Does that mean that she was super awesome too?

That's why I said 2005.... year-to-year AMC was always down after that, except in late 2008 and early 2009. And I didn't say he was super-awesome. In my previous posts I said that I pretty much agree that overall he was a mess. I am just pointing out facts to balance out the obvious biases evident in his outright condemnation, the biases you are currently up against in another thread ;) lol.
