Frankly with how Dorian has been used the past couple of years I don't find her essential anymore. Vicki is the center of that show. And frankly other than Vicki and maybe Bo I am not even sure who is essential on that show anyore. I fear someone at PP thinks ME is.As for Todd, once this arc plays out I don't know how important RH or Todd is anymore.

Good question.

I would secure the following actors, if only for the sake of continuity and helping viewers adjust to the new platform: Eddie Alderson (Matthew), Kristen Alderson (Starr), Melissa Archer (Natalie), Peter Bartlett (Nigel), Kassie dePaiva (Blair), Patricia Elliott (Renee), Roger Howarth (Todd), Ilene Kristen (Roxy), John-Paul Lavoisier (Rex), Kelley Missal (Danielle), Erika Slezak (Viki), Hillary B. Smith (Nora), Austin Williams (Shane), Robert S. Woods (Bo), Pamela Payton-Wright (Addie) and Kim Zimmer (Echo). I'd also see about re-introducing Robin Strasser (Dorian). Then, as time and stories move forward, and newer (and hopefully, better) characters and families are introduced, I would phase out the weaker actors/characters "as storyline dictates."

My point, though, is that OLTL (and AMC) needs as smooth of a transition as possible. We cannot log on on January 16 and find a drastically different show with all brand-new characters, or one that "resets the clock," where the Lords, Woleks, Craigs and other original families are suddenly back but w/ new actors portraying the original characters.

True, but I wouldn't want either reinvention to be drastic and jarring either for standing viewers or even potential new ones. As it is, they'll probably have to cut back a lot just to make these new ventures more manageable economically.

I guess that's what I get for weaning myself off that rag. ;-)

Believe me, though, if JPL leaves, I, as a viewer, will not be shedding any tears.

OLTL also would do well to have a HUGE, jaw-dropping cliffhanger (like Viki-loses-control-of-the-car-and-oh-god-is-she-dead? and say-what-he-or-she-is-ALIVE?!!! huge) toward the end of the network run that helps kick off the new episodes. (I'd suggest the same for AMC, except, unless we look at this like an end-of-season thing that's usually done for primetime shows, there might be too much lag time, causing anticipation to dissipate slightly.)

What with that Frons praise after OLTL was canceled, maybe JPL is going to get a job with him. Too bad JPL didn't leave a few years ago - the ratings might have held up.

They should do like Knots Landing at the end of season 12 and have some kids shoot a paintball at VIki's car. Viki goes all vigilante and we hear a crash! At the start of PP we learn she accidentally killed 3/4 of the cast. But the judge says it's OK, because that was Tommy, not Viki.

It's a feature-length interview but here's a key part

"I'm looking forwrad to waking up every morning and being completely available to my agent. There are other soaps in L.A. I don't want to say too much, but the continuation of ONE LIFE TO LIVE on the Internet has not change my plans."

I think starting the next week is perhaps a mistake. I'd give it a couple months or weeks, then skip ahead several months or even a year or two and pick up with the reduced cast. I'd only keep maybe 10-12 people if that.
