Postponing the airdate for AMC sounds really good in theory (because the show does need some time to clean up), but the problem is that casual viewers are creatures of habit; once they get used to "life without AMC," many will not go back to it. This is not a piece of info that I'm just "making up," but rather a real fear that soap executives have had in the past. (In 1975, CBS wanted to air 60 minute ATWT beginning in September, even though ABC couldn't begin airing EON until December. Because P&G executives were so worried that EON fans would never come back after a three month gap, they were able to persuade CBS to hold off expanding ATWT until December.)

As things currently stand, the four month gap will be a huge hurdle for AMC to overcome. The fact that AMC wasn't ready to air on 9/26/11 was a huge blunder on the part of PP and ABC (although I really don't think ABC cares anymore about the success of their soaps; they were just happy to take any licensing fees that they could still collect from them). And while I could be wrong on this, the fact that the AMC transition has been so chaotic seems to disprove the theory by some that ABC planned to license its cancelled soaps to PP "all along," and was just waiting for government funding before making an official announcement that the soaps would continue online. (A more plausible scenairo seems that PP decided to "scoop up" AMC & OLTL after first observing how much outcry resulted from their ABC cancellations.)

Of course the ideal would have been for AMC to premiere Sept. 26th but there were too many variables preventing that from happening. We're almost in November and the Union deals haven't been solidified yet so there was no way Sept. 26th was realistic. I think it makes more sense to launch both shows at the same time and I just hope that January 2012 time frame is doable especially with the lack of confirmed information re: the behind the scenes maneuverings. If (When) GH leaves ABC they are going to have it so much easier than OLTL and especially AMC because all the deals will already be in place. I just hope this week the flood gates from PP are opened and we find out everything.

This is so true, Skiman. And that is a major reason why I have long believed that GH stood a much higher chance of online success than either AMC or OLTL.

If they truly did acquire AMC at the last minute, then there wouldn't be any possible way to have the show ready by 9/26. However, I have read comments that it was the "plan all along" (i.e., before the cancellation announcement) for ABC to transfer its soaps over to PP, but both parties were just waiting for government funding before making an official announcement. If this was truly the case, then not having AMC ready to go on 9/26 was a blunder, because PP obviously had a lot more time to get things in order (and any transition should have been almost seamless).

Even if PP did just acquire the Nixon soaps back in July as a reaction to the huge outrage their cancellations caused (which seems like the far more logical scenario), PP blundered in the sense that they failed to even air one advertisement regarding The Online Network during AMC's finale week. (And I don't buy the argument that ABC banned them from doing so, since ABC still owns the soaps and stands to profit if the PP venture is successful.)

I seem to remember also reading that PP was first only interested in OLTL (due to its impressive post-cancellation ratings), and only later became interested in AMC as well. If this is the case, then it looks like PP should have just stuck to their original plan, given that OLTL's transition has been so much more orderly than AMC's. Because of the chaos AMC currently finds itself in, I don't believe that I'm the first person here to wonder if PP bit off more than they can chew by acquiring the rights to two soaps at once.

What chaos is AMC in? & How do we know OLTL is not in chaos?

AMC has 3 confirmed signings.

OLTL has 9.

Given that OLTL will most likely not have a "who could have died/been shot" ending...the extra CONFIRMED signings to OLTL make sense (to me).

So what chaos does AMC face that OLTL does not?

Susan Lucci? See above reason on why we my not have heard anything from her camp.

Lack of promotion for AMC 2.0?? What makes us think OLTL will get any promotion(via ABC)? If they do, why at that time would they not also promote AMC.

So what other than AMC's 4 month lag is the problem and how does that translate into behind the scenes chaos in getting AMC on the web? Especially chaos the OLTL doesn't also face.

I also think it's a mistake to assume that news isn't being made until it's been made public. With some of the actors making comments in the Twitterverse and such, it's easy to fall into this idea that every little development shall be immediately known and if nothing's been announced, nothing's been happening. I know it's different, but it may help to try to look at these new versions of our soaps as new shows altogether where we wouldn't expect to be privy to so much information before the shows air.
