Randomly looking at B&B episodes to see what classic stuff is still on You Tube and came across this clip. I can't believe they had Kyle Lowder just flopping around like that (though I guess that might be why they quickly cut out of that scene).

If you go to 6:18 in this video when he jumps on the bed you'll see what I mean

I can't stop watching the classic episodes.

I'm just at the beginning still.

These first 500 episodes of Bold are... 30 year later SPECTACULAR. The plots are so well written, there is gentle build-up, EVERY character has purpose, there is CONFLICT in every scene, there is subtext.

I've been observing everything very closely and I think the writers have used lot's of myths and ancient storyline arcs. I even detect Shakespearian plot-steps, but I guess... every good story has something shakespearian.

Every dialogue reminds me of something I've read, heard, seen. It goes on like a good play.

And after so many years, I'm reminded why I fell in love with this show, when I was a baby. Why I won't go to school, so I can watch it.

My mother was in the hospital, ready to give birth to me, when she would watch Bold every single day.

LET ME say... Stephanie Forrester was so powerful and scary! And smart! Every scene she is in, I get goosebumps. She is so manipulative and sharp, and at the same time... aristocratic and beautiful.

Ridge is the total JERK and I love it.

Caroline is the way a HEROINE should be written. She is not easy and she is constantly striving to change.

Brooke is... acting better than she acts today. Smarter and older in her thinking...

This show was a DIAMOND. And now it's a cheap roll of toilet paper.

That's because Bill Bell was a genius and Bradley Bell did not inherit his father's talent.

The first three years you can see the elements from 1970s Y&R, but once the Spectra gang becomes a bigger part of the story and Bill Bell writes off the characters that weren't working, it's full steam ahead to the end of the 1990s.

Queen Stephanie was indeed written marvellous in the early years. And Susan Flannery looked DA BOMB. Interesting enought around Xmas 1988 I noticed that her dresses got a slightly wider, they started Dressing her more casual with sweaters on occasion - up until Susan Flannery was super slim and always dressed to the nines.

While I agree with you that Ridge, Caroline and Brooke all had en edge and written very well, the love triangle was not much better than we get to see nowadays with Liam, Steffy and Hope or at least it was also feautured too much and too often in stand alone episodes were everyone's main concern in all over L.A. is with whom Ridge is shagging up. And until the arrival of Clarke (boost #1) and later the Spectras (Major boost #2) the B and C stories were much too weak.

Speaking of which: Episode 463 and Episode 467 proved to me what an amazing Addition Darlene Conley was to the show. These two episodes are stand-Outs; Sally was soooo bold and suddenly B&B feels very much alive.

I realize that this is B&B and is not Susan Flannery as Laura on DOOL or as she is today Directing, etc. but did you happen to see her in between and betwixt when she was on Dallas? Oy! She was so magnificent. And, she did a movie where she played a cougar to her best friend's son. Also amazing.

And I don't know if I'm old fashioned, but the soundtrack was superb. So dramatic and in the same time classy. What happened to all these amazing Bold and beautiful melodies. Nowadays, the music is so awful, it's laughable and at times like you are watching animation.

I liked early Sally that we are seeing in these uploaded episodes... I hated that the show made her want the Forrester's respect, etc.  I thought it diluted the character a bit.  I know once the Donna/Bill Temptation story wraps up.. I think Macy's arrival plus Kristen's ex Mick's arrival are the next stories coming up.

    • I think Ben had already left while under Marland and only returned briefly to reconcile with Eve. The whole thing confuses me as I thought for a long time that Eve left the show to go be with him and that was when they reconciled, but it seems like he returned, they got back together, then he left and maybe they were still together until she left to join him? I have no idea.  It does seem like the interim writers were using some characters like Justin and Helena who were quickly dumped under Kobe/Long, which is a shame. Helena is one of those characters who likely always had a shelf life but Rose Alaio was such a vibrant screen presence, if Kobe/Long had just been patient, she likely would have fit in well in the Reva era.
    • Also, the lawsuit story was not the right story to bring Naomi and Bill into a court battle since those types of lawsuits are usually resolved via settlements.
    • I know that Sara did eventually become Carrie's therapist, but I was curious if the show had her make comments regarding Carrie's stunts of making it seem as though Justin was cheating on Jackie.  Given that Justin cheated on Sara with both Jackie and Brandy, I wondered if it was wise of her to counsel Carrie given the conflict of interest involved. @DRW50I think once Adam/Sara end up married.. Marland didn't see any reason to explore Sara's personal life after the actor playing Adam was released.  I know that Sara lasts until at least Christmas 1982 on the show.. but I don't think she ended up staying on for very long into 1983. The period between Marland quitting and Pam Long starting was the perfect time to clean house on characters that had outgrown their usefulness  (i.e. Ben, Evie, Sara, Jennifer, Morgan).. and tying up stories started by Marland that were too complex (Mona Enright, Mark/Jennifer/Amanda triangle).
    • Unpopular opinion:  The focus on the soap opera tropes over the mysteries and crimes was partly what did the show in.  Also, featuring characters not involved in the legal, police, and criminal elements also hurt the show and took away what made it unique. Featuring characters like Jody, Raven, Sky, etc hurt the show long term.  The show ABCified starting in 1976/1977 and then went through a youthification period starting in 1981.
    • I feel like the lawsuit storyline was resolved quickly because the show didn’t want to spring for more sets.
    • It's been a while, but we have seen the foyer to Bill and Hayley's house as well as the exterior entrance to their house. The foyer was first seen in the premiere episode when Hayley met Vanessa at the house.
    • There's still a year or two before Larkin arrives. Joel is there already. EON does noticeably youthify, although I think they carry it off. Admittedly I haven't seen most of the Jody stories, which from what people here have said aren't great.
    • I don't mind the actor who plays Brian. He's fine. The problem for me is that Paige seems so wishy wishy. She doesn't seem to have much of a personality at this point so I don't see why Brian would be so besotted with her. She just lurches from one trauma to the next. Granted, it's only been a month, but she's not as vibrant as April or even Deborah who has had minimal screen time by this point.  I do worry about the influence of GH on the show since I'm in fall of 1979 and characters have conversations and there's not the drive to "youthify" the show. However, I think Marceau (sp?) is gone. He was given a rather tame sendoff. How long was the actor on the show? I hope this is not a sign of things to come. I worry the show is setting up a murder mystery around one of my favorite characters and I will be mightily annoyed. I also noticed in recent Search for Tomorrow episodes uploaded to YT that the actors playing Logan and Eliot showed up. I don't watch the show but they were in the screencaps. When does Larkin Malloy show up or has he already left? Joel Crothers hasn't shown up either unless I've blinked and missed him.
