June 10, 201114 yr Member http://www.businessi...lie-chen-2011-5 CBS just announced that they delivered a 40 percent sweeps rating increase over the network's same programming last year (which, by the way, was the soap opera "As The World Turns"). That's pretty impressive just from a numbers standpoint. Factor in the tailored-to-moms vibe, and you've got a solid ad-sales pitch. http://tvbythenumber...ay-sweep/94009/ "The Talk" DELIVERS IMPRESSIVE TIME-PERIOD GROWTH AMONG WOMEN 25-54 ON CBS-OWNED STATIONS IN MAY SWEEP CBS's Daytime Talk Show Is Up +40% in Women 25-54 on CBS-Owned Stations Compared to Last May CBS Stations in Sacramento, Chicago, Denver and New York Post Largest Year-to-Year Time-Period Growth The Talk, CBS's new daytime talk show, delivered impressive time-period growth among women 25-54 on CBS-owned stations during the recently concluded May sweep, according to Nielsen live plus same day metered market ratings for the period of April 28-May 25. On the 14 CBS-owned stations, The Talk improved the year-ago time period among women 25-54 by +40% (0.7 from 0.5). Among the CBS stations seeing the biggest year-to-year increases in women 25-54 were KOVR, Sacramento (up +900%); WBBM, Chicago (up +200%); KCNC, Denver (up +100%); WCBS, New York (up +80%); and KPIX, San Francisco (up +67%). Other CBS Stations posting May-May time period gains were KDKA, Pittsburgh (up +56%); WWJ, Detroit (up +33%); and WFOR, Miami (up +20%). Thanks for the info But all this talks about is the 25-54 category. CBS didnt give a damn about this. I never heard them mention that during the press release when the soaps were still on.

Thanks. Less viewers than what ATWT had.

Let's face it, it's crap, albeit cheap to produce , it's still crap no matter how anyone tries to spin it.

It turns out they were wrong. Where are they now? I think there were rumors for so many years of failed pilots that after a while it was at a point where if it hadn't happened yet (the cancelations) it wasn't going to happen. I think there was also expectation for one to go, not both, although in the last few weeks before the news I felt more and more that both were going. I feel sorry for the people at GH - it must be hard going into work knowing that your show is ending and you are just waiting and waiting for the announcement. I know how ridiculous it sounds, as they at least have employment for another year or possibly two, more than AMC or OLTL, and in this economy that's more than most, but I keep thinking about what Kim Zimmer used to say, that working on shows which are waiting to die is pretty much hell. Thanks for finding The Talk ratings.
June 10, 201114 yr Member I think the demos for the CBS replacements are lower in 18-49 than ATWT and GL. Ultimately if it's about cheapness then the cheapest solution of all will be giving up those timeslots altogether. I think that's what ABC is moving towards. I think Disney is still moving towards unloading the entire ABC-TV network. Right now, the price is too high (due to "star" talent and lavish primetime production costs) for what they're selling. Their entire Fall line-up, from Daytime to Primetime, should fix that problem IMO. I don't understand why Frons didn't just let Carlivati go. Pay him off once he's finished at OLTL in November. When a pro sports team has an expensive player they want to get rid of but can't because there's a multi-year contract involved, the player is placed on waivers for a short period. If another team wants him, they just have to match the total price and they get him and his contract. If another soap ended up paying his salary and remaining contract, that would be a good thing for ABCD's bottom line, no? What money is saved by keeping an expensive HW (whose show was just cancelled) as a very expensive scriptwriter for another show that's most likely also going to be cancelled?

June 10, 201114 yr Member If I were working at GH now..actors etc..etc...Id be looking for new work now.
June 10, 201114 yr Member Haha, people dont care about GH anymore. Not surprised to see it dead last I think people still care it's just that they can't watch this garbage anymore.
June 10, 201114 yr Member If I were working at GH now..actors etc..etc...Id be looking for new work now. Seriously. Anyone who chooses to take a wait and see attitude deserves to have the rug pulled out from under them. I'd even ask to leave early if I had enough money saved or something else became available. It's going to be a depressing place to be once new lows become the norm. Edited June 10, 201114 yr by trish672

Right now, the price is too high (due to "star" talent and lavish primetime production costs) for what they're selling. Their entire Fall line-up, from Daytime to Primetime, should fix that problem IMO. There is a very strong rumor that ABC plans to turn all the daytime slots back to the affiliates starting 2014 and are giving the affiliates an opt out in 2013 if The Chew or The Revolution don't work out to pick up other shows from "their" syndication pool which by the way will not include any of the 3 soaps. Sweeney has allegedly greenlit development money for "daytime" or whatever it will be called to develop more shows for their syndication pool. DAytime is the first step in ABC's transition of the network. 2012 is supposed to start major changes in primetime. Seriously. Anyone who chooses to take a wait and see attitude deserves to have the rug pulled out from under them. I'd even ask to leave early if I had enough money saved or something else became available. It's going to be a depressing place to be once new lows become the norm. I think most are realists and know the end is coming and are looking elsewhere for opportunity. But most I would expect are still under contract so they can't just up and leave.

It's going to be a depressing place to be once new lows become the norm. its not that easy to find steady work in this economy especially for the actors over 30. Riding GH out to the end is the best and only option for most of them as they are lucky to even have employment. I think most are realists and know the end is coming and are looking elsewhere for opportunity. But most I would expect are still under contract so they can't just up and leave. Yep this too. Those on contract are stuck for the time being unless they ask out and again thats pretty risky. Edited June 10, 201114 yr by Cheap21
June 11, 201114 yr Member These ratings make me cackle. Way to cancel the wrong soap, ABC. Glad to see AMC and OLTL going out on a high note.
