Members j swift
It couldn't have been Mike because he was already in Pine Valley and was key in discovering that Lars was a Nazi. Members Franko
I'm glad you addressed this, because yeah, the comment about "consciously chosen" is so very of its time. The path to hell is paved with good intentions ... We talk about the stereotypical uninformed fan in '21 and how the shows aren't doing enough to reflect reality, and then here it is, 38 years earlier. Also, re: Dack Rambo ditching his fans, insert your own Ted Cruz joke. For all my drooling about the menfolk, a Tony & Genie appearance BITD would be well worth the price of admission. D'oh!
Members FrenchBug82
Dack Rambo's history of losing jobs abruptly is quite a thing to behold (setting aside Another World which is rather sad since it was linked to his AIDS-related decline). I have always wondered to which extent it was his homosexuality and to which extent he may have been a problem behind-the-scenes for a reason or another.
Members ghfan89
They sort of brought the Nazi thing back in 1998. Palmer was hiding a bunch of Nazi paintings. Anyone else remember this?
Members DRW50
It was an unpopular storyline - even with James Mitchell, I believe. The most interesting part for me was the Opal/Palmer split. I never really believed he would have stayed with her as long as he did, and the fallout (along with the reveal of her son Adrian) was good drama.
Members j swift
Your answer has arrived - its like Lynda herself was reading your post (ha ha) Opal's final appearance must have been before Lars's death in November 1983 Please register in order to view this content However, tales of her return were greatly exaggerated. Was the rumor started by the guy who played Ralph Purdy? Edited February 22, 2021 by j swift
Members Franko
And if I read the synopsis right, Jenny and Tony's non-wedding/Liza revealing to Jenny that Tad slept with her and Marian happened during the week of Dec. 26-30, 1983. A good time for events (like Luke and Laura leaving GH), given that many people were on Christmas break and could watch. Ha-ha to the idea of Mart Hulswit trying in vain to stay on AMC, @j swift. P.S. Did you see the item about Elaine Stritch joining EDGE as "your" nanny?
Members Darn
Did Dorothy Lyman leave the show on bad terms?
Members j swift
The reports of the time do not indicate any bad terms. She left to play a role on Momma's Family (perhaps inspired by Carol Burnett's AMC fandom).
Members Darn
Thanks. I was curious because that report seemed so emphatic that she was not returning.
Members FrenchBug82
But it is my understand she was really pissed they didn't ask her first when they brought Opal back and went straight to recast instead. That was long after of course but the story of why they did that if she was open to returning is an open question.
Members Vee
It seems naive to think she'd come back on contract after Mama's Family - I'm not sure what she'd expect them to do.
Members FrenchBug82
It could even be that she would have declined anyway but simply wanted the "courtesy" of first refusal. Actors are weird sometimes.
Members Khan
The "Lars Bogard is a Nazi" storyline -- that's the infamous storyline where Erica said, "I don't have the right shoes to chase Nazis!". Waymin. Tony Dow once auditioned for a role? Tony Dow? As in "Wally Cleaver" Tony Dow? Edited February 22, 2021 by Khan
Members DRW50
Tony Dow had been on GH and Never Too Young (I think) so I guess it makes sense.
