I remember reading this column in '94 and being comforted by the knowledge that I wasn't the ONLY one who thought AMC had become "a sad shadow of its' former self."  Something I had been saying since two years before.

Robert Gentry and Susan Keith, not in character as Ross and Shana (from Loving), are featured in this ad for a New York Daily News supplement.

Brian Green's Brian was such a departure I remember thinking as a 12-13 year old.  I liked him (and already at the time knew him from his Broadway musical stuff) but he just seemed so much... not like a bad boy (or former bad boy.)

Interesting to see the Cullitons listed as (I think?) breakdown writers with Hal Corley in the credits.

Thanks for those Michael Logan pieces.  I don't agree with a lot of what he says in them (from my memory anyway...) but they seem to be honest--if catty--and not how he would eventually become in his soap writing which was simply unbearable.

Great question that I have no answer for Did Phoebe ever really have much of a gripe with Erica after Erica's obsession with Chuck?  (I'm sure I'm forgetting something.)  In theory of course she should have hated her simply due to the eternal Erica/Brooke feud, and yet...

No, I don't think they ever fought, because Phoebe tended to avoid Charles and Mona (and by default Erica, who was mostly in NYC at that time).  She tried to actively outcast Mona, and she wouldn't let them join the Pine Valley Country Club.  Which of course wound up just causing Phoebe pain and sorrow when she was seduced there by the notorious Wade Matthews.

But, Pine Valley's second most popular type of employment was the "oldest profession.”  So, odds are a single woman might get conned.

On another topic:

Given that Janet was clearly an afterthought once the character of Natalie needed a new antagonist, did we ever find out much about their backstory?  I recall the well, etc etc.  But, do we ever get the narrative connection from what drove Janet to madness to how Natalie wound up with wealthy Alex Hunter?  Were the Hunter's Canadian?  And what are the chances that both Natalie and Jeremy would have long-lost evil twins that they never told anyone about?

It felt like they tried to brush the Alex stuff under rug, but I want to know how she initially got involved with that family?

Well technically Janet was a sister, not a twin.

We did get the stuff when Natalie and Janet's awful mother would visit--but that was just backstory about their childhood.  You're right, there are a lot of gaps there.

I always assumed the Hunters were French Canadian but probably just because of LeClerc.

I feel you

I think they were French Canadian as I thought Natalie was meant to be from there too or that she and Jeremy had at least been star-crossed since they were teens. Wasn't there an entire remote in Canada or am I just mixing this up?

    • Yes, they did.  I still have them.  I think there were three.  AMC and GH as well.
    • Ah okay, thats what I thought. I was hoping I missed the announcement somewhere. Thanks for the clarification.
    • A new day in Salem… and a new day for Days.  I like the way everybody found out and absorbed the news about John’s death, and how they all eventually found their way to Marlena’s to offer their condolences. I’m not particularly sure why they waited until the next day to tell everybody but I don’t really mind it.  We finally got Roman’s perspective! His scenes with Kayla were one of the best parts of today. I’m glad that Roman is thankful for everything that John did for his kids. I agree with posters who said that he should’ve had a scene like this with John, but I’m happy we got this at least.  Julie was used very well today too. She’s definitely the best person for Marlena to have scenes with at the moment. Hopefully, Julie continues to be there for her. And yes, I totally agree with Marlena and Belle sending EJ away when he came to the apartment. I’m curious to see what’s going to happen to his and Belle’s relationship in the aftermath of all this. And, while I enjoyed most of Brady and Kristen’s scenes, I still think the ship has sailed for them. Hopefully, the aftermath of John’s death causes Brady to finally end this thing with her once and for all.  And, I see a lot of people were wearing some kind of shade of purple today.

    • Wow, I love that current and former actors are participating in this. I barely recognize Staci Greason! She looks fine, just very different. But I will be happy to hear anecdotes from her. I shipped RoJohn and Isabella hard back in the day, and I sobbed buckets in my dorm room at college when Izzy B passed. Honestly, I'm interested in everyone's stories. Drake seemed like he was well loved among the cast.
    • When she first appeared, I was sure she was setting Tyrell up for a prank. She was too much of a manic pixie dream girl- I wasn't surprised Tyrell also became suspicious. Now I'm not so sure. If Jessica genuinely likes Tyrell, it seems like a missed opportunity to not have started her out as a bully, then we see her gradually catch feelings for Tyrell.  The McBrides are definitely the "C" family of BTG. They always get last priority. There have been a few times where the Doug/Vanessa/Joey characters reference off screen conversations which seem too important to not show us. Like when Doug thanked Joey for giving him extra time to pay off the loan. When did that happen? Or when we abruptly moved from Vanessa/Joey at Uptown to Vanessa/Doug in the hotel room. The McBrides don't even have their own set - even though Vanessa is a realtor. It's a shame because I am a fan of the characters and actors.

I am also adjusting to KR as Ted but I feel that AM and MJ had way more chemistry as father and daughter than AM and KR. We saw Eva dream of having a real relationship with MJ's version of Ted for months so it's a bit of a bummer not to have that payoff with the original actor except for those scenes in MJ's last episode.  Something I noticed about Eva today is how she takes genuine delight in being a schemer. As badly as she wants to be a Richardson, she still has so much of her mom in her. It was jarring seeing her earnestly promise to steer clear of Leslie in her scene with Ted, then immediately switch attitudes when her mom showed up.  I'm very surprised with how quickly the accident story has been moving along. I was sure that it would be months if not years before people figured out it was Leslie on the motorcycle, not to mention responsible for the potassium overdose. I'm looking forward to seeing how MVJ and Guza avoid writing Leslie into a corner.  Finally, I have been loving the Articulettes story. Bonita Brisker was just the right amount of OTT - remember Sharon is supposed to be even more angry than Tracy is. If Sharon didn't come in swinging, people would say she fell flat. The way Sharon and Tracy describe the breakup is so Supremes-meet-Original Recipe Destiny's Child. I get the sense that MVJ is re-writing the Return to Love Tour as a roman a clef, and I love it. I'm looking forward to finding out what the secret they share is. If Dante Green is as shady as Berry Gordy was, it's something dark. If/when they go through with the reunion, I expect Dante to show up and claim to own the Articulettes trademark in a Lou Pearlman-esque twist.
    • Other than hanging out with Liz, all of Lucky's stories have been stalled out or dropped; the relationship with his son; his wanderlust. He hasn't been involved in any of the action/adventure or con artist stuff. I don't think he's even had a scene with Sidwell since the latter came to town. He's a real after thought. I doubt he's long for the show.
