Close, marceline, lol!

I'm talking about the docu-series that followed the Louds of Santa Barbara, CA, in the early '70's.

I saw a preview for that the other day, it looked pretty good though I wondered if I should try to see the original to fully appreciate it. I do remember seeing a news piece about the son years ago, how he was the first openly gay person invited into American homes. He later died from complications of AIDS.

While we are talking about good and REAL reality series, allow me to plug my all-time favorite, the Up series. It is a documentary series following a group of British people, lower/middle/upper class, starting as 7-year-old school children (Seven Up is the original) and catching up with them every 7 years. I highly recommend it, we got them off of Netflix and devoured each 7 year installment far too quickly, I really wish we had spread them out more. It was spoofed on a Simpsons episode a few seasons ago (Springfield Up).

Precisely. If confrontation ensued, it was by someone else's provocation. I will say that this doesn't mean I think it's because of SMG being better/lesser than AM... but the change in characterization is obvious. SMG's Kendall used to react to people's negative responses towards her. AM's Kendall tends to bite first, bark later. Along the line, it was determined that Greenlee and Kendall were exactly the same, and therefore the rabid pitbull demeanor was applied to both characters.

OLTL's demise: 01202012

Don't blame Angela. Lorraine Broderick tweaked her post before she sent it. <_<

SMG's Kendall is the type of character I love...scrappy little firecracker, easily forgotten by those around her but can just as easily be the center of drama if pushed far enough because she doesn't realize the magnitude of her schemes until after she's put them into motion.

AM's Kendall, on the other hand, requires less pushing and seemingly knows exactly how f!cked up some of the things she does are.

It's a typo from the person who transcribed SMG's answers for that article.

The biggest difference for me with either Kendall and Greenlee is the show has always taken effort to show where Kendall is coming from, and I never felt they put that much effort into where Greenlee's bitch factor stems from. For a long time, I think they did the same thing with David. There wasn't much effort in showing what birthed the nastiness, "a bitch for the sake of being a bitch." I disagree with R S on the change between Kendall's. I think there was a change, but IMO it was from less provocation to action to more provacation to action and not the opposite. That's why AM's Kendall has fit more into the category of anti-heroine or heroine and why SMG's Kendall fit more into the category of vixen and love to hate.

I agree with the bolded part. The rest, no. I think Greenlee is methodical and strategic with schemes. I think Greenlee can't help manipulating all of the people all of the time. Kendall with either actress was impulsive and reactive to being hurt rather than a conceited, smart, hardcore bitch.

Exactly. When all else fail, just repurpose old ABC sitcoms and drama shows. Hell, they could even create some big "Come Home to the Classics!" campaign for it.

I still believe, though, ABC will eventually cede all available daytime hours to its news division, thus creating an entire day of news and information, from GMA and "The View," right up to "ABC World News Tonight."

    • I always get the vibe that Martin/Smitty have an emotional abusive relationship set up... but I doubt the show will really go there with that element given that Martin is a Dupree (and we can't have the Duprees be portrayed in a negative light), and because it's a gay male relationship.   Even though abuse in the physical or emotional sense is a huge thing in a lot of gay and lesbian relationships. The Ashley/Naomi scene reads off to me for one reason....  Ashley was talking about the new scandal without any sort of mention and/or subtext.. considering she knew both Silk Press Sheila and Eva.  I'm not sure if the writers have forgotten, if Jen Jacobs isn't able to play subtext, or what.   It's just apparent the writers do not know how to write a young white millennial couple.. and perhaps they need to get a younger white script writer to be on staff... or let the actors play around with the lines to make them more natural/realistic.
    • This is as good a time as any to point out that the 90 minute show was, what I like to call  "cockamamie idea" of Fred Silverman, head of NBC Daytime Programming. He did so well at ABC & CBS but not so NBC. We learned this from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay, 2006, can be found on YouTube, audio only. Now, to be clear, Rauch was completely behind it. Only Lemay fought against it & eventually quit over it.
    • She was so wonderful. Glad your handle has been a tribute to her.
    • Hopefully Alan has learned to not interrupt or interject with pointless information while someone is in the middle of telling a story. I almost think it would be better if Alan was a producer behind the scenes.. and he just had the actors on screen talking and asking one another questions.  Those interviews tend to work better.
    • It was only recently announced that Denise Alexander passed away on March 5, 2025. She was my all time favorite actress and role model. She will be dearly missed.  Denise Alexander, ‘General Hospital' and ‘Days of Our Lives' Actress, Dies at 85
    • Hopefully Alan will actually read the book beforehand.

    • Am I the only one who immediately thinks of this every time someone mentions Smitty?
