AMC and OLTL Canceled!

Disney rejected it either because they would've had to compete with Lifetime, Oxygen, Bravo, Style Network, WeTV, and about a dozen other, similar networks that compete for the same "niche market"; or, because they couldn't understand Frons' fascination with S&TC anymore than we could. (Seriously, Frons, just b/c your beard wife watched it religiously every week didn't mean everyone else in America did.)

(So, "Disney Moms" would have been a network for Moms...and their families. Ohhhhkay.)

Ironically, I think Anne Sweeney was/is right about SN needing to evolve. Once DVR's and such entered the marketplace, SN's basic selling point - the ability to watch "today's soaps tonight" - was gone.

What they should do is just split soapnet, much like Nick use to do Noggin/The-N. Noggin would be like 6a-6p and would feature kiddie shows, then 6p-6a it was The-N with tween/teen shows and reruns of 90's teen shows later at night. Toon Disney could run in the morning/afternoon/early evening and then at night into the early morning they could air soaps/acquired movies/etc. See how it goes. Nick ended up spinning The-N into its own network, TeenNick.

Too bad Disney is supposed to be "wholesome" and "conservative." Otherwise, I would have pitched "Rainbow Disney," the corporation's answer to Viacom's LOGO w/ a network geared specifically toward gay audiences.

I was reading it and thinking, these loons make NBC look like a well run network. Frons mismanages the soaps, drives SoapNet into the ditch, comes up with two awful ideas to rebrand it which neither get picked up, AMC/OLTL get cancelled for two awful sounding shows, and now SoapNet actually might stay alive for a while longer and he still has a job? What the heck is going on over at the house of mouse?

Because you didn't tell good stories. None of that means a damn without good story. Or did we forget to cover that between the cross-country road trips and the skunky perfume tie-ins?

    • I'm not invested in Ted as a character anymore either. He's not the same.
    • I have a feeling it was either coincidence or it was an idea whose time had come. Remember Bill Bell was also into the psycho-sexual. So it was happening more than one place. Pete Lemay began disagreeing with Irna quite early on. He shut up & listened at first, naturally because he had to learn the basics. But, as soon as he had, they began to have arguments, disagreements. They both were devotees of character-driven but the similarities stopped pretty quickly. Bolin as far as AW was concerned was nuts & bolts, or more $$$. It was all about the numbers. And the numbers were great, double the ad revenue & that went to the network. As far HTSAM was concerned, that was her baby, no one else's. It is so funny to me that Lemay started this by accident.

    • What did you all think of Hogan/Patti compared to the stuff with Liza and Sonny? Did you buy anything about Sonny and Bela? Has a recast ever decentralized a character as much as Sherry's exit did with Liza? Or do you think that would have happened even if Sherry had stayed?
    •     I think the three comments pretty much summarize my thoughts. The green is not pleasant. I think I know where they were going with it, but it doesn't translate on screen.  The bar at Uptown is actually pretty good. It's my favorite part. I totally get it having an East Coast vibe. I used to frequent a place like it and while I wouldn't necessarily call it pretty...it was a bit Kitsch but it had a vibe. This place is lacking the vibe. I know it's not easy to hire extras, but even having a karaoke night in the background or live music would change the whole feel.  Vernon and Anita having breakfast there was a great idea. Another place besides the country club where they could talk. However, why were they using country club china at an establishment like Uptown. It just seems a bit confused. I don't understand what it's supposed to be.
    • Add me to the list of people who like Tanisha Harper as Jordan I never understood any of the criticism of her, to be honest. She's gorgeous and she's solid in her role. Sounds like a soap staple to me.
    • Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane!   (Can you imagine what the synopsis for 2024/2025 will look like 50 years from now?  It'll basically just be a flowchart of who was the CEO of which unseen corporation, lol.)
    • Yes . Its time to get these folks outta their clothes lol.
