Masquerade parties in SOAPS

Not so much a masquerade ball, but Days had the opening of Shenanigans in 81 and everyone came in costume, That night Mary Anderson was killed and Jake was revealed as the Salem Strangler!!

Goldensoaps, what were the stories behind The Secret Storm's costume parties?

That DAYS episodes was one of the few I got to watch on WOST before they went pay - I remember Doug and Julie's comedy routine.

If I recall correctly, Guiding Light had one in 1999 in San Cristobel, when they used their big expanded set of the palace. Reva had a mask, Josh & Olivia kissed mistakenly, Jim found that Beth had come to the island, etc.

There was another low-key (i.e. low budget) masquerade ball in 2003 at The Beacon Hotel (lobby). I can't quite remember the plot. Maybe it was during Ben being a serial killer and killing Colleen Dion's character?

Aaaah, I loved the Mardi Gras ball! Opal's hair

Opal is the original Gaga!

There was also a Venetian Masked Ball that Adam threw; I think that was maybe 2003ish. Remember, Opal mistook it for Venusian and came dressed like a space alien?

Yeah!! IIRC, Adam set it all up as a favor for Brooke to raise funds for her shelter (which...just sorta disappeared, idk). Then of course drunk-off-his-ass Jamie, played by Micah Alberti, told everybody there that Adam was cheating on Liza with Brooke.

and Liza did everyone a favor by tossing Mia out a window. Didnt she think Mia was sleeping with Adam? LOL

I think this was during the "Reva has a Stalker" storyline.

Was that the same party? I know the stuff with Brooke/Adam/Liza was going on just before JB debuted as Jamie followed by Babe, Krystal, and nuJR. I think Liza pushed her a year earlier (around Christmas time?) when she was suffering from a brain tumor. Adam wanted to have her put away, and Liza thought that Mia was trying to take her place with Adam and Colby.

I think by the time of the Venetian Ball, Mia was just a random backburner character until they shipped her out in '04.

Liza pushed Mia on Nov 21, 2002. This defeintly wasnt during the brain tumor story, bc she had that, just as I dropped the soap early in 2002, unless it came back and I didnt realize it. Here's a small recap from SOC

At the Venetian Ball, Colby went to retrieve a ribbon from Mia's purse and returned with the pregnancy test Mia had bought. Liza refused to listed to Mia's explanation. Liza believed Mia was carrying Adam's child and was jealous. Liza followed Mia to the attic and when she heard Mia speaking lovingly to someone on the phone she became enraged. She reached towards Mia and Mia fell backwards through the attic window. Liza rushed back downstairs to the party and as Dr. Frank Hubbard helped Mia, Liza overheard Brooke talking with Adam about their affair. Liza was filled with guilt but didn't tell anyone but her mother that she was responsible for Mia's fall. Her guilt increased when Mia asked Liza to care for her son if she didn't live. Tad became suspicious of the circumstances of the accident and Liza finally admitted her involvement, but insisted she had tripped on her dress causing Mia to fall. Tad convinced Liza to tell police the truth about the accident. Jake and Mia overheard Tad and Liza's conversation and Liza was soon arrested for attempted murder. Adam visited Liza in jail. Liza admitted to Adam that she had been jealous of Mia and that she was in love with Adam.

AMC only had two storylines by fall of 2003. The rape/Cambias murder fallout and Babe's arrival....lol

I always thought this was a strange storyline. had many twist and turns and even a few head writing changes when it was going on. I always thought of the car Lumina and thought it was a stupd story

AW had the Lumina ball in late 1998, hosted by the Lumina corporation. Chris wore a wig, mask and rubbery dress posing as the advice lady he wrote as, Felicia had an elaborate getup, etc.

I have scans of that somewhere.

These are from AWHP.

I think it was mainly a producer change in the middle of it - Savitz to Goutman. The story was odd, as there was initially more focus on Zak, the Lumina, and his relationships with Sofia and Lila. He was killed off not long after Goutman's arrival. Initially Joran Stark went unseen and was called "Mr. Shoes" or something, and I think Joe Barbara did the voice. He was also more interested at first in Rachel than in Amanda. There was also something about Donna and Felicia having their dresses mixed up or something.

I think this was during the "Reva has a Stalker" storyline.

I think this was after Reva's stalker had been revealed. Reva's stalker was revealed in April 2003 and the ball was in May 2003. This was all early Ellen Weston so it may have overlapped. I'm pretty sure the party was a fundraiser for the San Cristobal Children's Library or Museum. I think this was where Jeffrey O'Neill first appeared. He was wearing a mask before being revealed to be Bradley Cole. This was Bradley Cole's return to the story. Edmund had suddenly fallen for Cassie and was pining for her at the party. He had made a fairly large contribution to the project, which was one of Cassie's endeavours. Just as Cassie was starting to warm to Edmund, Richard's doppleganger appears. I had forgotten Ramona Hendon (Colleen Dion's character) was involved in the party as well during Ben's days as a gigolo.
