Members vetsoapfan Posted August 17, 2012 Members Share Posted August 17, 2012 One of the recasts I was most disappointed with was Bennye Gatteys replacing Denise Alexander as Susan Martin on DAYS, way back in the early 1970s. Alexander was a passionate, fiery performer, who cried with the the best of them (Susan Martin spent her life sobbing, so an effective weeper was important for the role), and while Gatteys was adequate, she lacked the depth, range and charm Alexander had. Victoria Mallory as Leslie Brooks Elliot on Y&R never worked for me either, and for the same reason. She was a lovely woman and had a great singing voice, but her portrayal of the part was so pallid in comparison to Janice Lynde, who had played Leslie originally.
