These are fascinating, thanks for posting!

I just found Lilyan Chauvin on page 12 of SoapHoppers
https://boards.soapoperanetwork.com/topic/55788-soap-hoppers-the-soap-actors-and-roles-thread/page/12
@slick jones have you seen these interviews?

I see that she died in 2008 but she had a blog and a website, which are still maintained.  It mentions some GH actors who were her students or were coached in French by her.  Kin Shriner spoke at her memorial service.

Great finds, thanks! I just saw this blog post from Tonya Walker (GH/OLTL) on how Lilyan coached her to be a villain

"As I have just received the news of Lilyan’s passing I am so struck by how much she means and meant to my life. I have always attributed my success in acting to her as well as my surviving the 80’s. Lilyan was my coach, my friend, my mother many times. Her soup, french bread , and couch made me feel at home on many occasions when I had a broken heart or was stressed from my work or personal life. When I needed to be propped up she was always there. Even now, as I beat myself for not seeing her since I moved away, I can hear her telling me to “knock it off” ...I can hear her saying, “Stop this. I know you loved me and that you were taking care of your children, husband and family.” At the same time she is quietly reminding me to take care of those who are still here and not to set myself up with regrets like this ever again. She is reminding me to make sure that I make time to see people who are special to me. We never know how long we will have to see them. With regard to acting,Lilyan taught me how to be a villain. I was always the “ingénue” until I met her. She gave me tools to use that served me notably well, as I was often recognized as “Best Villain” by magazines etc. in Daytime Television. I remember on General Hospital, I worked with her on every script. I was sure they wouldn’t take me seriously when I was supposed to be intimidating, frightening or even angry. I was afraid people would take one look at this blue eyed blonde face and laugh, thinking “You have got to be kidding!” Well, Lilyan put a stop to all that chatter and got me to focus on my strength… to find my strength, and to have true confidence in it. She did this so well in fact that I began to known for years as a formidable “Bad Girl” on Daytime Television and this has lasted for 20 years. I had to cast myself in a film I produced as a “Mom” because no one else would! I had the good fortune to know Lilyan’s mom too. No one loved their mother more than Lilyan did. She took such good care of her mother until the day she died, and took such joy in doing so. She nourished all living things…from her plants on her porch to her friends and family. I am teaching today as well as acting and producing. I think of her at every class. I only hope that I will be able to be half as good a teacher, friend, daughter, director and producer as she was… That will keep Lilyan Chauvin alive in my heart until I see her again someday.
With Love,

Tonja Walker

I think the date is wrong. This is #2859 from Wednesday June 6th, 1984. It is indeed Karl Bruck's last appearance as Maestro Fautsch. After the Brooks family was dismissed, he last aired on December 1982, but was brought back to teach Nikki the piano in 4 episodes (April-June 1984).

Well said LOL.

I did think Linda Dona, who appears in that episode as the dead wife Linda in Kurt’s flashback would’ve made a better Ashley than Shattuck did.

If I recall correctly the letter Ashley found contained a written confession from Linda detailing a very sordid affair with the next door neighbor(?) who was also married.

Also felt bad that Hope exited paired up with him after a brief and boring triangle.

I still don't even know why they brought poor Signy Coleman back. The worst part, as SPW or SOD panned at the time, was the romantic dinner where he had to perform a tracheotomy on her (was he out with Ashley and saw her choking - I can't remember).

I did like that we saw the wife reading the letter, IIRC, which was not the usual flashback style of the show. I agree she would have been a better Ashley.

Shattuck was an all time failed casting choice, even if she became tolerable later on.

When Brenda left, Ashley should have been written out for an extended time, at least a year.

The character needed a break and this was the time. Wait until Eileen came back or a stronger recast, had that not occurred. Long running characters need to be treated carefully and the marriage to Cole during that time was unnecessary and pointless.

Pretty much.

Anyone remember why DD left the show in ‘96? I was actually surprised when he returned in late ‘98 because it felt like at that point the show had long moved past from him and then initially felt like they struggled when they teased him with Grace.

Yeah that was one of Kurt’s many “deep dark” secrets behind the dead wife & dead daughter etc that he had been a brilliant doctor which he kept hidden until Hope choked. I remember SOD giving it a thumbs down for the week.

(Barring a few performances, I also have never been much of a fan of McCloskey’s work either, although I know it wasn’t his fault Santa Barbara did give him the short end of the stick)

Shattuck never became tolerable for me. Her groveling confession to Victor that she is Cole’s other woman in the Jabot Lab was the worst acting I had ever seen on Y&R up to that point. I still remember what life ED breathed into Ashley once she returned, as Ashley was still in the middle of the art forgery story that still befuddles me to this day.

Yeah Bell only waited a little over two months to bring on Shattuck after Epperson left. Ashley should’ve been in full rage and ready to take revenge on Mari Jo, but their confrontation scenes came out as so empty as Shattuck didn’t have any spark or edge at all and the show just kept moving forward.

    • I'm not sure how I felt about it, but I do kind of like that it felt like the show telling us this concludes the first chapter of the series. Could be interesting if they only do it for big aftermath episodes. The biggest mistake with Martin is that it's almost hard to buy his anger because we've gotten no strong scenes with him and his parents. They've all been with Anita/Vernon. I can't even remember him ever even saying one word to Nicole, even in passing.
    •   Thank you! Agreed on both posts. And the comments about Mike Manning are nonsense.
    • I haven't watched yet, but did they explain the current ownership of The Bistro?  Because when RonC was writing, wasn't he applying for work with Sophia?
    • I think Brandon has gotten better in normal day to day scenes, but he’s very over the top when the character is meant to be angry or agitated. I did laugh when she started yelling at Leslie and then when he started to throw all those damn books, lol. He needs an acting coach to work out some of these kinks.
    • I've never found him as bad as some. I think he's always shined in scenes with Vernon, who should be his father. I also think he has great chemistry with Kat and Dani which I hope they tap into more over time. Dani/Martin feel like such a fun and believable Auntie/Nephew relationship.
    • I'm fighting for my life on another board for my husband Brandon and I'll do it here too lmao
    • I don't expect Lois to be the same person she was 25 years ago, but she's definitely lost a lot of what made Lois unique.  It's clear the show doesn't know how to write for her, and the sole purpose of Lois is to hide this Gio secret.  It's a shame she doesn't interact with more of the canvas.  It's a waste of Rena's talents. I like Brook Kerr most of the time.  She can be hit or miss.  I totally get what you are saying about her line readings too.  I honestly think the character really suffers being stuck in the Curtis pairing.  She's much better than Tanisha Harper's Jordan lol.
    • Friday and yesterday's episode is what daytime television should be. The other shows airing could take a page from yesterday's show.  I loved the rage, hurt and anger Nicole unleashed on Ted.  Daphnee should be up for an Emmy nom for these scenes.  It broke my heart to see how Dana had locked Eva out.  I do feel sorry for Eva.    I am still bumfuzzled as to why Leslie/Dana went to the DuPree's and asked them to accept Kat UNLESS Eva is really Kat's twin (and really Nicole and Ted's daughter that maybe they though they lost or an embryo Dana/Leslie stole??) I loved how Anita and Vernon both shot her down.    Ohhh and let me just say Friday and yesterday was the MOST fire I have seen Martin have since the show started.  Maybe Brandon Clayborn is coming into his own with the role finally.
