Nikki and Victor were compelling characters during the 1990s. Their individual struggles and shared challenges made for engaging television. However, at this point, their storylines feel exhausted. Perhaps it's time for these characters to retire, as there appear to be no fresh narratives left to explore

It's hard to know what Bell had planned unless there is a story bible or outline somewhere that gave clues. MTS was pregnant in real life and Bell quickly paired her with Braeden. Maybe Bell did intend to have his 2 pet actors (Braeden & Bauer) to be a super couple, but Bauer was exhausted after 9 years of being front burner.

As much as I respect Bell as a writer, sometimes he would do weird stuff or lose interest and drop a storyline mid way. Bell also took a shine to MTS. Within months of coming on the show in the late 70's, he quickly married Nikki into one of the main families (Foster). Greg & Nikki could have been made into a super couple if it were not for Wings Hauser in the role of Greg. He was just a casting mistake. His acting was atrocious and he was nothing to look at.

James Houghton's Greg and MTS Nikki could have been a very sexy couple that would have made the covers of soap magazines. I can picture them in swimsuits running along the beaches of St. Croix like Tom & Erica on AMC

Thanks for the link @NothinButAttitude .

The "you're a disrespectful young woman" scene. Yes, Nikki and Dru are of different generations, but in real life MTS and VR are only three years apart in age.

I've pointed out before that early Nikki and early Dru were not that much different from each other, but that's something that was never mentioned on screen. I'd think that Katherine or Victor would have recognized those elements.

I've always believed Bell had a MUCH longer story in mind for his longtime pet (Miss Bauer) and his new pet (Mr. Braeden), with Nikki (and possibly Kevin) being two airheaded dingbat "spoilers" that could potentially send the story into different directions at the drop of a hat.

Miss Bauer's exit and Miss Thomas's pregnancy turned it all upside down.

Victor was the wealthy businessman introduced as the new villain. Lorie was the vixen daughter of the main upper class family. Victor was drawn to Lorie but she also had business property he wanted (Prentiss Industries shares, so he could take over the company). I think Victor had some affection for Lorie, but I don't feel that it was a genuine love and they wouldn't have been a romantic super couple, they felt more like a high society/business power couple.

I'm pretty sure that in Lorie's 2002 return, she mentioned that she and Victor were never involved. We know Victor met Lorie while he was married to Julia so there was no Victor/Lorie affair then (not that I need to see EB/JLB in a love scene or anything like that).

When Julia came back in 1982, it was shown that in her time away from Genoa City she grew confidence and built a career in fashion. Julia even told Douglas "Victor won't believe how I've changed".

Also in 1983 it looked like Victor and Julia were getting close again and Nikki got so insecure. Julia even called Nikki out and said "you're acting like a jealous wife".

Of all the rivals Nikki had for Victor, Julia is the only one she made peace with.

I remember that confrontation between Julia & Nikki. Julia told her she will not tell her what she can and can not do with a man she was married to for 10 years. Katherine was also catty with Julia. Katherine told her she told Nikki to study her and her tactics. Julia replied " Well she didn't. She studied yours"....LOL

Julia was the original Mrs. Newman. Nikki had crap for brains to even dictate to her.

    • Actually Kim Zimmer got six weeks off to test the waters for pilot season in L.A. - she said later she went on many auditions and got one offer for a sitcom, but she would one of many in an ensemble. She turned it down, because it wasn't worth leaving Guiding Light for a supporting role on a sitcom.
    • I'm not even sure why Zoe would care, even if they know each other offcamera.  I can't see Jean going, but if she is - good riddance at this point.
    • I just found the commercial on YouTube, with several other GL'ers doing the same commercial - how fun!

She did the same for me once Ghost Reva arrived (the anxiety and paranoia) - which is when the storyline for Rick/Annie started, with their Chicago past and her alcoholism. But before all that, when she was new and tending to Josh's broken leg, she was just normal, sweet and very cute/flirty.
    • I have to admit Annie exhausted me somewhat before she went nuts. So much anxiety. She and Robert were OK I guess. Didn't ever stick out much one way or the other.
    • I meant to ask in the May thread, but hey...it's not like it won't come up...   ...has our opinions of Jessica changed at this point? I know we debated at one point if she was sincere in her feelings for Ty or if she was in on his bullying. Now that a little more time has passed, what do we think?
    • Which is why I said...and continue to say mind you...that the designer is still trying to figure out what works for which character...highlight my points with particular characters. And as I also agree with you, too many misses. She has not found a clear, firm rhythm for me. Yet.   I also agree that BTG does a much better job. But I'll give credit where it's due.
    • I watch many episodes from the Vault, a secret source here on SON, because the quality is much better than YouTube. But, it has commercials that I have to skip through, although even these commercials give me serious nostalgia vibes. All that said, there is a consistent 1996 commercial for Excedrin with Frank Beatty!  He talks right into the camera about his feelings, and it's like Brent Lawrence never left. I wonder if GL fans back in the day ever saw this and had feelings about it.
    • Dukes of Hazzard had a good run when it moved to 8pm but even when that was failing ABC and NBC couldn't come up with a hit show to dominate  that timeslot. NBC sent The A Team, Knight Rider and Riptide there for their final seasons and CBS did the same with Scarecrow & Mrs King. Otherwise it was a barrage of new shows that never worked.
    • Agree. Much more miss than hit. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I thought clothing was supposed to be flattering. A lot of the Y&R women are seen in the tight solid color dresses ,often with cutouts/one shoulder. Now that may be a fashion but to have all of them in interchangeable dresses... Do the characters have a particular color pallette/style that is unique to them? BTG does a better job in that department. Some recent Y&R looks. I actually like the dress but we see that style too often.   Nikki's new look is not to my liking.
    • The first show I found had Maeve dressed horribly, and I just shook my head and thought she must've been thrilled to be portraying someone much more sophisticated and rich. Vanessa's hats and gloves probably cost more than her AW character's entire wardrobe.
