Nikki and Victor were compelling characters during the 1990s. Their individual struggles and shared challenges made for engaging television. However, at this point, their storylines feel exhausted. Perhaps it's time for these characters to retire, as there appear to be no fresh narratives left to explore

Re: Victor/Lorie/Nikki, I wonder what Bill Bell's original plan was.

Victor met Lorie while he was married to Julia, and he was drawn to Lorie. Also Lorie had business property Victor wanted: Prentiss Industries shares, so he could take over the company.

After his marriage to Julia ended, Victor saw Nikki climbing the pole and was intrigued by her so he took on the challenge of transforming a working class young woman into a young woman suitable for high society, but then Victor's project turned into love.

To me it seemed Bill Bell was setting up Victor/Lorie as a high society/business power couple but then the Victor/Nikki My Fair Lady storyline took off, plus I think MTS real-life pregnancy and JLB departure shifted whatever Bill Bell had planned.

It's hard to know what Bell had planned unless there is a story bible or outline somewhere that gave clues. MTS was pregnant in real life and Bell quickly paired her with Braeden. Maybe Bell did intend to have his 2 pet actors (Braeden & Bauer) to be a super couple, but Bauer was exhausted after 9 years of being front burner.

As much as I respect Bell as a writer, sometimes he would do weird stuff or lose interest and drop a storyline mid way. Bell also took a shine to MTS. Within months of coming on the show in the late 70's, he quickly married Nikki into one of the main families (Foster). Greg & Nikki could have been made into a super couple if it were not for Wings Hauser in the role of Greg. He was just a casting mistake. His acting was atrocious and he was nothing to look at.

James Houghton's Greg and MTS Nikki could have been a very sexy couple that would have made the covers of soap magazines. I can picture them in swimsuits running along the beaches of St. Croix like Tom & Erica on AMC

Thanks for the link @NothinButAttitude .

The "you're a disrespectful young woman" scene. Yes, Nikki and Dru are of different generations, but in real life MTS and VR are only three years apart in age.

I've pointed out before that early Nikki and early Dru were not that much different from each other, but that's something that was never mentioned on screen. I'd think that Katherine or Victor would have recognized those elements.

I've looked through my notes, etc. and I can't find a single image of the Y&R bible. I have images/notes of the following bibles: LOVE IS A MANY SPLENDORED THING, ANOTHER WORLD, ALL MY CHILDREN, DAYS OF OUR LIVES, RAGS (THE BOLD AND THE BEAUTIFUL), and several unaired soaps in the collection. My guess is that they did a verbal pitch and then churned out the first five scripts for Y&R (those scripts encompass one day in Genoa City).

Here's all I have from the original scraps of paper which lay out the foundations of Y&R:

- The show was meant to progress two years in the first week (eat that, Ron!)

- The original locale for the show was meant to be Chicago

- Phillip was the husband of Alison, a "young" mother of 41. (Note: Written next to Alison's character description is "unless Bette Davis is available..."). In this iteration, Phillip and Alison had been married for ten years. He died of a heart attack two years ago (the first week of the show) - although he was healthy - and established a trust for (Liz? - illegible!) and daughters. (Note: Alison became split into Jennifer Brooks and Kay Chancellor.)

- Liz (19, young, heartful.) Since her father's death two years ago, Liz has been in Europe for two years at school - girl very (def... - illegible) at her father. (Note: This iteration of Liz seems to have become Jill & Sally)

- Jan (23, more bland, not attractive but Laura-type.) (Note: She appears to have become Chris.)

- Brock Camden (25, intern. Dates Alison, has an eye for Jan.) (Note: Brock would become Snapper with the name "Brock" being recycled.)

- Brad Camden (16, student. Younger brother of Brock.)

- Marcello (Around 38, wants to marry Alison.) (Note in margin: Brother who left country because of draft.)

- Junior Camden (Note: Undefined. Nothing written about him.)

(The Camden brothers seem to have been morphed into the Brooks sisters & Greg and Snapper Foster.)

- Liz becomes pregnant and doesn't know whose baby it is. Goes to Brock for help. "You do this and I will marry you."

- Liz drinks too much at times. A girl in search of a father image. Little relationship between mother and daughter in past two years.

- Phillip will one day marry Jan, but he'll forever be vulnerable to Liz.

- Liz wants only what that appears out of reach...

I've always believed Bell had a MUCH longer story in mind for his longtime pet (Miss Bauer) and his new pet (Mr. Braeden), with Nikki (and possibly Kevin) being two airheaded dingbat "spoilers" that could potentially send the story into different directions at the drop of a hat.

Miss Bauer's exit and Miss Thomas's pregnancy turned it all upside down.

Victor was the wealthy businessman introduced as the new villain. Lorie was the vixen daughter of the main upper class family. Victor was drawn to Lorie but she also had business property he wanted (Prentiss Industries shares, so he could take over the company). I think Victor had some affection for Lorie, but I don't feel that it was a genuine love and they wouldn't have been a romantic super couple, they felt more like a high society/business power couple.

I'm pretty sure that in Lorie's 2002 return, she mentioned that she and Victor were never involved. We know Victor met Lorie while he was married to Julia so there was no Victor/Lorie affair then (not that I need to see EB/JLB in a love scene or anything like that).

I think Victor might have been shown to have deep feelings for Lorie. After she dumps him at the altar, Victor goes through a mourning period in Aug ‘82, with Douglas comforting him.

After years of being Victor's punching bag/trophy wife, I wonder if Bell should have morphed Julia Newman into a bitch on wheels like Marland did with Barbara on ATWT ? Meg Bennett was a stunning woman and her raven looks could have played into that.

When Julia came back in 1982, it was shown that in her time away from Genoa City she grew confidence and built a career in fashion. Julia even told Douglas "Victor won't believe how I've changed".

Also in 1983 it looked like Victor and Julia were getting close again and Nikki got so insecure. Julia even called Nikki out and said "you're acting like a jealous wife".

Of all the rivals Nikki had for Victor, Julia is the only one she made peace with.

I remember that confrontation between Julia & Nikki. Julia told her she will not tell her what she can and can not do with a man she was married to for 10 years. Katherine was also catty with Julia. Katherine told her she told Nikki to study her and her tactics. Julia replied " Well she didn't. She studied yours"....LOL

Julia was the original Mrs. Newman. Nikki had crap for brains to even dictate to her.

Sorry I don't recall the exact dates. At one time those scenes were posted on youtube before they were pulled.
