November 7, 201015 yr Member NBC has announced a new soap called "Vines" that will premiere Fall 2011! The series will follow a troubled family that moves to the town of Nappa and takes over a winery. It's said to have a supernatural spin, which boggles my mind (does Passions ring a bell! They didn't too long get rid of it.) The concept by Hideo Kruger, was originally designed for a feature film (he's done The Ring, The Grudge and others) but now that concept serves as inspiration for the new layout. What do you all think of this? A few sites are reporting, lhere's one of them. I wonder how this turns out?
November 7, 201015 yr Member Ummm... Is this a <blink>primetime</blink> soap? Edited November 7, 201015 yr by Sylph
November 7, 201015 yr Member Well it certainly sounds like something new, which primetime (I assume this is primetime?) needs. NBC needs to be patient though. I just hope they make this about characters and don't try to focus on special effects or shocks. It's characters who make you want to watch.
November 7, 201015 yr Member This sounds promising. We just had a recent topic about supernatural soaps, and with supernatural being all the rage these last few years, maybe the time is right. I just hope they play it straight and the feeling of menace is legit.
November 7, 201015 yr Author Member Ummm... Is this a <blink>primetime</blink> soap? I was under the impression it was daytime, hence why I mentioned Passions, but it may not be. It does make you think of shows like The Gates, but I'm not sure. Here's another link discussing the show. It says soap opera but that could mean primetime too I guess: http://spinoff.comicbookresources.com/2010/11/01/nbc-readies-new-supernatural-series-for-wine-lovers/
November 7, 201015 yr Member I might actually be interested/optimistic, if it were on another network. But NBC...Persons Unknown. The Event. I have zero faith in them when it comes to serialized drama, the quality or the commitment. This might have been better off on the WB, when it loses Supernatural. November 7, 201015 yr Member From Santa Rosa paper: NBC is coming to Napa Valley to test the terroir for a prospective prime-time soap opera that plumbs the woes of a family that takes over a winery and is very excited until it becomes clear the grapevines don’t like them.
November 7, 201015 yr Member Falcon Crest 2.0 with a twist. I don't have faith in NBC at all when it comes to nightime programming. The only thing I watch on NBC is football.
November 7, 201015 yr Member I don't have faith in NBC at all when it comes to nightime programming. The only thing I watch on NBC is football. Same here. All I watch on NBC now is The Biggest Loser and the network influence on that show has become choking the last few seasons. It's as if NBC keeps on telling us "you're going to like what we're doing, dammit! Look at us, we're so clever, so innovative. What, you hate it, you say? Well, we love it and we're gonna make you love it so there!" Edited November 7, 201015 yr by applcin

They had about a year before it all started going south.
November 8, 201015 yr Member Primetime, Daytime...who cares? This is NBC, it'll get the same ratings in either venue.
November 10, 201015 yr Member TV Guide has a docu soap: TV Guide Network has greenlit its first original reality docu-soap, The Nail Files, created and executive produced by Jersey Shore co-creator/executive producer Sally Ann Salsano through her 495 Prods. The Nail Files stars Katie Cazorla, a 32-year-old budding entrepreneur who juggles owning and operating Hollywood’s fast growing celebrity-filled nail salon, The Painted Nail, and her relationship with 52-year-old Grammy-winning music producer Walter Afanasieff. “The producers of Jersey Shore have once again come up with a highly entertaining, non-scripted series capturing the fascinating lives of colorful individuals, this time against the backdrop of Hollywood,” said TV Guide's EVP Diane Robina. Added Salsano, “I love working with entertaining, raw, everyday people with some sass and a point of view.” http://www.deadline.com/2010/11/tv-guide-picks-up-docu-soap-from-sally-ann-salsano/
