What’s up

I clearly remember an old scene of Alice Horton mourning her granddaughter hope.. lying on her knees and saying “first Addie, then tom, now hope” and crying. Do you remember maybe when this scene was showed? Which year? Cannot find it anywhere

Thought maybe during avalanche story from feb 1996.. but did not find this scene.

thanks

In case anyone else might think it was interesting like I do,I made a list per year of when all the characters (that have accumulated at least 10 episodes) last aired. Do not mind the way I listed their names, just something funny on my part. Obviously 2023 will be edited when 2024 begins.

In retrospect, it is horrific that not only did Bill later become Chief of Surgery at the same hospital, but Laura married him and their love story was portrayed as if they were "star-crossed lovers".

In the current DAYS thread, we were discussing "rape erasure", and it looks like the soap press were complicit when discussing their history.

It is fascinating how not only our culture changed, but also how the avoidance of moral outrage on social media has affected storytelling (for the better, in case anyone missed my point).

Well, in a way they were star-crossed lovers long ago, before she married Mickey, weren't they? Didn't she love Bill first? (But, no, they weren't at the time the mag seems to indicate.)  And she married Mickey & Bill was betrayed & abandoned & tortured but he still loved her so he became the image of the the emotionally tortured romantic lead, with all of its violent tendencies. Before Luke Spencer, he was Luke Spencer, except that he wasn't living with the thought that he would be dead in a few days & he was middle class & a doctor.

If not I could be misremembering.

Also in this instance we do not know if anyone from network dictated this rape. And, with Luke & Laura network did.

KEN CORDAY TO PERFORM HIS FIRST PIANO CONCERT IN ALMOST 50 YEARS...THREE NIGHTS ONLY THIS NOVEMBER...

At the age of six, Ken Corday taught himself how to play the piano by creating and practicing his own music. It wasn’t long until Ken’s parents received a call from Professor Tanamichi Sogito who, impressed by Ken’s music, offered to take Ken on as a student at the age of 8 at the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York City. As a teenager, Ken also developed a love for the drums and went on to play drums in many rock groups, culminating in touring with the band Lucky Mud throughout the Southwest, Bay Area, and Hawaii. In 1973, Ken enrolled at UCSC, and studied Jazz improvisation and ethnomusicology. His mentor, Professor Randy Masters, introduced Ken to modern Jazz, especially Brazilian new beat (Bossa Nova) music, and Afro-Cuban rhythms and cadences. Graduating in 1975 with a B.A. in music, Ken continued to Post-Graduate Studies at San Jose State University where his piano playing flourished under the tutelage of Lou Harrison and Higo Hirada. In 1977 Ken earned a master’s degree in music, and later that same year, Ken launched his composing career in television, specifically for Days of our Lives where he continues to compose the show’s music. He’s earned six Emmy Awards for music composition. After almost 50 years since his last piano performance, Ken will be returning to the stage to perform his first piano concert featuring a collection of his own never-before-heard, original music.

All proceeds from ticket sales for the concert series will go to benefit the SAG/AFTRA Foundation’s Emergency Assistance Program and the important work they continue to do.

Jason, Thanks for posting these script pages. It helps so much. Can I just ask about going over some pertinent dates to see if I have them right? Thanks.

Laura & Bill were meant to be together but they were not for many years.

Dec 29, 1967 Mickey & Laura wed.

Feb. 7, 1968 Bill raped Laura.

Feb. 8, 1968 Bill said he didn't know what he was doing. Laura said she could turn him in to the hospital & ruin his career. (But, she did not.)

Nov. ? 1968 Mike was born.

8 years passes in real time. At the time of the Mike paternity reveal Wesley Eure was playing Mike & we are unsure of his age but he was SORAS'd so it may have been over 8 years in Salem time. During this time the audience knew that Mickey was sterile & Tom knew & Laura knew & Tommy's wife Kitty found out & then she blackmailed Bill so he knew.

Mar. 19, 1976 Mickey learns his brother, Bill, had raped Laura some years back.

Mickey goes immediately & gets a gun & shoots Bill. He also has a kind of a nervous breakdown & gets amnesia & wanders off. Because his belt buckle says "MH" he calls himself Marty Hanson. He happens upon Maggie Douglas's farm. She's on crutches. She hires him as a farm hand.

Date unknown, Mickey returns to Salem & he is Dr. Marlena Evans 1st patient.

Looks like you have most of it right, except when Mickey wandered off. He got amnesia in 1973. It was when he returned to Salem that he eventually shot Bill in February 1976.  (Also it is Maggie Simmons, not Maggie Douglas).

July 1973- Mickey is depressed, considering suicide as he recovers from emergency heart bypass surgery. He suffers a sharp pain in his head and collapses (then wanders off with amnesia, meeting Maggie at her farm in August 1973).

July 1974- Tom sees a photo of "Marty" in the newspaper and tracks him down at Maggie's farm.

February 1976- After finding out Mike's blood type does not match his, Mickey finally realizes he's not his father, buys a gun and shoots Bill. Mickey is sent to Bayview (where he meets Marlena in June 1976).

All those dates come from the monthly recaps by DSN, so you can read much more in-depth here:

When DAYS did the stunt actor change with Emily going from one scene as Gwen leaving from the airport & the next adjacent scene Theresa coming into Salem airport I went looking for some other DAYS actor change stunts. This is from one Jack (Mark Valley) to the next (Steve Wilder).

Next, this is from one Bo to another. Basically it is just RKK being revealed as Bo.

    • Any fan of RuPaul would dispute calling any of these examples “drag”. A costume?, A disguise?, A lame attempt at humor? -- yes -- Drag? -- nope
    • No asterisk. I meant that the circumstances during the first year were in her favor.
    • Maybe I am misunderstanding you? Are you suggesting that her success at GL should have an asterisk next to it because she was smart enough to exploit a weakness in the marketplace to gain ratings?  Note: Try not to take this personally—I’m not accusing anyone of being consciously misogynistic. I’m simply proposing that the origins of certain ideas about Ms. Phelps—such as claims that she was unprepared or a poor manager of her writing staff—may be rooted in misogyny. Perhaps, with the benefit of hindsight, it's worth reconsidering those opinions. At the very least, imagine being one of the few women in the room while a male network executive tries to decide what women want to watch during the day. That context has certainly led me to reassess many of my own long-held views.
    • Through 78 and 79 under Marland and Pat Falken smith GH was still heavily hospital based with a mix of storylines. The Doctors would have been fine had they followed that template. Once GH went with Ice Princess all bets were off.Who knows how much TD would have copied that direction? And OLTL, DOOL went in that direction quite heavily while other shows dabbled in far out stories. The thing is that TD was well set up for an expansion.

    • Aaron Spelling still had clout with ABC in Fall 1984, as I think they knew he was going to pull out all the stops for Dynasty to get to #1, which he did. That's probably why ABC kept Hotel as Dynasty lead out. Fall 1985 with the sale to Capital Cities and Brandon Stoddard arrival, Aaron Spelling would lose his clout with ABC.
    • Correction, July 1991 to May 1995. JFP got the ratings up during her first year, but it also helped that ABC big three were tanking at various times during that year and Days was in their post-supercouple/pre-Reilly mess era. It will always disappoint me that the ratings during the Calhoun/Long/Curlee era did not reflect the quality of the show.

    • Perhaps. But would anyone have wanted The Doctors to turn into what General Hospital ultimately became?  Dear God in Heaven...
    • Thanks @EricMontreal22 that must be one of the last issues. Probably the best soap magazine.
