It's hard to gauge how much involvement based on You Tube episodes (many of which are still missing) but from what I've seen over the past year and a half, Shannon's involvement was very brief, more as a red herring.

Shannon was actually contacting Lucinda because she wanted to sell back her shares of Walsh Enterprises (that had been gifted by Harriet) so that she could afford to hire a private detective to track down her long-lost husband, (who would turn out to be Duncan McKechnie) so she could get her marriage annulled or get a divorce.

That makes sense (I wish they'd done that with some others who dragged on for years, like that sleazy Brad) although I wish they'd done more with him. Did he ever have any real interaction with James beyond their meeting here? I'm trying to remember if they overlap in 1986.

(whenever I see Gary Hudson I always remember that male stripper movie with Thomas Calabro that is very dear to my heart)

Thanks. I need to watch more of those as I know a few more have popped up in the last year or two. The quality is so bad sometimes I don't feel like it.

That's a great idea. Bringing in the niece of a dead end slampiece of James's (or is it James' - I can never remember) was a waste.

Thanks. I think Lisa Sloan was a Nicole on EON.

I wonder whatever happened to Davidson. I know she was very popular with fans.

You're right, she did. I guess because her big return story was such a flop with viewers, she did start to float around town more. I think the show was right to axe her, looking back, but I do wonder if she could have been freshened up with a new producer as with Duncan gone she was all ready for new stories and relationships, no history to clog her down.

Someone just uploaded a bunch of Guiding Light episodes on You Tube and looking at the screencaps alone, I marvel at how consistently good the quality of videos uploaded of GL episodes are.  I can't remember seeing any episodes with poor video quality.

Same for EON videos uploaded to You Tube.

There were some very rough GL episodes from the early '80s, but yes otherwise you're right. Maybe GL fans kept their material in better condition, I don't know. (of course a lot of GL is early '90s but some is mid-80s too).

Now that I think about @DRW50I do recall a couple summers ago, watching a string of GL episodes from '84 and there were a few with poor picture.  I guess I have managed to avoid those since then, although tbh, I don't watch classic GL as often as I do classic ATWT.

I'm spending part of my semi-working holiday still hip-deep in 1986. Can anyone explain the whole backstory with Doug Cummings, his dead wife Caroline, Marsha, etc? It'd be much appreciated. Was there something about horses?

I remember when the story started in late 85 I was not too invested in it. The show had previously done a story where Barbara had a stalker/secret admirer. Now it was Kim's turn. Also Frannie went through boyfriends like water. So Doug Cummings seemed like the new flavor of the month. But Marland did weave a suspenseful yarn. And the actress who played Marsha Talbot was the best thing about this storyline (in my opinion).

Probably an unpopular opinion.. but I was always on Lucinda's side especially when it came to Lily.  I actually wished she'd disowned that brat Lily and let the princess go live at the Snyder Farm and cut her off so she didn't have any money.  And I had wished she had succeeded in getting Holden/Lily to break up even though had she not done anything.. they still would have broken up as we witnessed once the two were adults and Lucinda had learned to accept him.

I also was on Lucinda's side with not telling Lily about Holden's amnesia and being in the hospital in New York.. but only because Lily would have found a way to make it all about her (which we saw when she was frustrated that Holden didn't remember her, etc).  I also understood why Lucinda told Sierra about her breast cancer before she told Lily (and Lucinda confirmed it by saying because Sierra wouldn't have made it all about herself).

i watched the pitchfork episode.. and the reason Lily was there was because she was upset about Craig being reported missing/dead.  The way she acted, you would have thought she was the most important person to Craig.. moreso than his girlfriend/wife Sierra, his mother Lyla, or his sister Margo.  Selfish character.

Now I do wonder if you think this was due to how Martha chose to play the character, or if this is how the character was written by Horgan/Marland/Backus/etc?

I think its an unfortunate kind of synergy. Marland loved to write her as the wounded bird to be protected at all costs, and Byrne kind of honed in on adding an entitled, self righteousness that grated over time.

After Lily gave Hope up without as much as giving him the opportunity to say goodbye, he should've divorced her ass AND taken the kids.

The general comment when Byrne played Rose is that she was a lot more like Rose in real life than she was Lily, which is one of the reasons she enjoyed her.

I think that she also wanted some changes when Lily came back in 1993 so Lily would not be such a victim, but I can't remember for sure.

    • I think it was Most Irresistible Couple. I'm pretty sure ATWT's Jack and Carly were up for it to, and I felt gypped that they lost.
    • To each his own, but I am lovin' the Duprees.   Doesn't mean the show is perfect, but the Duprees are not the problem.
    • While Daphne D, Trisha MG, and Ambyr M are definitely in the running for an Emmy nom next year,  Brandon Claybon actually impressed me a lot too! It's just a shame we rarely see Martin and Ted in scenes together, which would have made everything more impactful!
    • I remember this funny bit with Donna in 1989 or 1990 where Michael had asked Donna why she didn't have a female friend and/or really any friends.  I laughed when he mentioned how she was close to Iris, but backtracked by saying 'ok that was my fault' when she gave him the looks that could kill look. I remember there was a bit where Donna then tried to befriend Rachel and I believe Felicia in separate scenes with the two both looking at Donna in bewilderment.  It didn't seem to work. After Felicia and Lucas married, I do remember a few scenes between Felicia and Iris where they were being nice yet throwing subtle shade at one another.  Then Donna would come into the scene and then it seemed as though Iris and Felicia would both focus on their annoyance at Donna.  I do recall Felicia did get silo'd into her own orbit at times... and that Lorna and Jenna had more interactions with other characters outside that orbit.. moreso than Felicia. I think the isolation of  Donna/Rachel/Felicia became more pronounced/obvious once Iris was written off the show and JFP came into the EP position in 1995.   Even after JFP departed.. the isolation of characters into bubbles continued until the last few months of the show when Amanda started interacting with Cindy, Paulina resumed interacting with Rachel/Amanda, Vicky/Lila began sparring again after being in separate orbits for over a year, etc.
    • Only falling or tripping dreams for me...
    • I think with the Silk Press Sheila/Eva/Ted/Nicole situation fully out and in the open (for the most part)... I have some predictions for May/June: Kat/Eva/Tomas:  With the revelation that her father, who she held up as a hero, is not as perfect as he's presented himself to be.. I see Kat focusing her energy on supporting her mother and pushes Tomas away (she had mentioned to Vernon about how Tomas had asked her to step in and talk Naomi into dropping the lawsuit and how she didn't feel comfortable with that).   With Tomas pushed away from Kat.. he become the one individual that is nice to Eva and also feels a bit of guilt since his telling of what she confided in him to Kat ended up being the spark that made Kat resume investigating Eva.   Eva will also go to Tomas for comfort... and that will cause even more conflict/issues between herself and Kat. Nicole/Ted:  As we've seen for the last 2+ months... Nicole is not anything like Dani and her response to Silk Press' bombshells proves that.  Even if she opts not to file for divorce.. I predict a messy War of the Roses type of situation.   Although she kind of bought this on herself with the bottom bit of trust she had for Eva irregardless of the fact that she came recommended by Mona. Martin:  I have a feeling that his memories of the being Silk Press Sheila's little brownie friend will also revive the nightmares full stop.. and May will have this be the A story with Smitty and kids affected by this secret of his from the past.  If found out.. will Smitty leave him, or will Smitty continue his unhealthy devotion to Martin (and it is unhealthy).   And also, I hope we get some more focus/development on the Joey/Vanessa/Doug situation.. and also connect the threads of that threesomes to Jacob/Jacob's partner/Jacob's dad thread... and also get to see who else Joey starts to set his sights on (perhaps a Dupree.. since they're vulnerable right now). My wishlist for May/June for the B and C stories: Naomi/Jacob:  Cute couple.. but why are they together.  As the late Agnes Nixon would ask if she view them .. why are they together?  What is it about Naomi and Jacob's pasts pre marriage has led the two to find one another and get married?  Naomi seems a control freak... as a way to not be like her 'weak' mother Dani so she calls the shots?  What draws Jacob to Naomi?  Is it her sense of justice and passion?  Is it the Dupree last name?  Ashley/Derek:  The last time she was on, we finally got a bit of personality from her that isn't so perfect.  She's high strung/anal about her surroundings and her life.  Is she like this because she was a latchkey kid due to her single mother working all the time?  Is she only with Derek because he's 'simple' and 'uncomplicated'.. someone she thinks won't try to upset her routines?  As I say... I don't know if the writers/producers have the 'why' figured out for these two.. and if they can figure that out.. story can generate from that.
    • It's not the worst idea lol.  Emma deserves much better than Joss though.
    • Robert Newman gets the short end of the stick, as Josh is usually stuck being an [!@#$%^&*] until the chick he's with goes cray-cray and Reva becomes the better alternative.  Reva was also married to Josh's brother Billy. You said it better than I did.  While I didn't know Brandon had died on-screen previous to this, it was just odd that they'd made such a huge deal about him already being dead the summer before, yet now he's just hanging around in white linen in the islands, not giving a fig about his family and friends. To me, Brandon was always the spectre hanging over the family that explained their lack of conscience.  Long at times used history very well--or at least knew how to mine it for story effectively. The Fishing Trip and Dylan are probably the best examples of that. I don't think she came up with Dinah, but I could be wrong.

Marnie Schulenburg's widower. She was such a strong person. (I did not realize he played the Tucker Carlson knockoff on Succession)
