I still have a collarless striped linen shirt and vest like what John Ross is wearing in that clip. tongue.png

I found Tracy Scoggins a little distracting in J.R. Returns as she was so identified with Dynasty/The Colbys. It was like watching Charlene Tilton in a Dynasty movie.

I think the problem is that in the original Dallas, they were pretty sure they were getting another season when they did their major cliffhangers. This time, the show didn't know it would be going on. So I thought they did a pretty good job of wrapping up the season and setting the stage for drama to come. IA, it's too bad they didn't go the bold route and leave things dangling, but if the show had been canned, I'd be cussing them out for that very thing.

I have to admit that I was expecting an edge of seat cliff-hanger but felt a little let down. While I think it was smart to tie Rebecca to the fabric of the show, I wouldn't have had her be Cliff's daughter... I would have had her be Katherine's daughter. It would have been awesome seeing Katherine coming off the airplane as opposed to Cliff. Plus, it would have been more believable having her daughter hook up with Bobby and Pam's son Christopher... she wouldnt have cared about the whole 'cousin' thing... her main focus would be to hurt the Ewings for 'causing' her pain. She could have blamed Bobby for turning her down... plus blame JR And Pam for being the reasons why Bobby wouldnt come to her.

Plus, while it is good to have a woman being show runner... i dont think this particular woman is the right fit. From what I'm reading in interviews, it sounds like she is wanting to focus more on her creations then the original cast (i.e. cutting a lot of sue ellen scenes).. and I'm glad she realized that the first season shows were too plot focused.. but David Jacobs nicely pointed that out and I think it would have been nice to have him take over as show-runner.. or at least as a consultant.

Cynthia Cidre is absolutely not right for the job. She can't write good soap. Her failure to utilise Linda Gray effectively said it all.

David Jacobs could be a consultant, but he didn't focus on DALLAS in its first run either, he worked mostly on Knots Landing.

Finally watching the reunion movie "JR Returns" and the sets at Ewing Oil had changed as well. How I was use to the 80s sets. It is obvious the new Dallas is ignoring the reunion movies cause Christopher, who I flove in the movie, already had met Pamela(not Rebecca) and started a flirty friendship. Great to see Sly and Harve on the show as well.

I stuck it out for this season, but I won't watch season 2. The characters, except JR, and the storylines just don't interest me. In the finale, I didn't like the way Chris found out about Rebecca. Chris enters the motel room just as the real Rebecca calls? "Who's this?" "It's your sister, Rebecca." Like she couldn't recognize it wasn't Tommy's voice? Come on! Also, Chris and Elena's reunion fell flat. It was suppose to be this grand thing - the two people who wanted to be with each other but couldn't.....and now they finally are together. Didn't do anything for me. The Ewings getting the upper hand on Vicente was boring. There was no drama in that.

    • Maybe Carney and Levin didn't get along, but he got along with Tolan. Who knows. I SO agree about Tolan. I am sure my jaw hit the floor when I watched her first scene. She had been hyped like crazy by the soap mags. They swore she was going to be a sensation like Mulgrew. I thought she had a speech impediment. I think more likely she just couldn't remember her lines so she ended up slurring them from nervousness. Not everyone can do soap acting, it's very difficult. There's memorizing so many lines, then there's so little rehearsal. I think she was a theater actor. Maybe she was a good one. But when the camera was fixed on her, she just...sucked. I had nothing particular against Nicolette Goulet. She just wasn't Mary. She had no chemistry with Levin. She didn't even look like she belonged in that family (a similar situation when they replaced Sarah Felder with that blond chick who was laughable as a police rookie). I don't believe it was impossible to recast the role. Kathleen Turner was doing soaps during this era. She would have been a phenomenal Mary. (Not to say that she would have been available, but just to point out there were good actors of that type around).
    • Bill Bell dusted off Jennifer Brooks death 13 years later on B&B with Caroline death.
    • Yay for Luxembourg and Greece!

And I must say that Latvia's song is oddly magnetic. I think it deserves a place in the final. I would much rather have seen Australia and Serbia in the final than Lithuania and Malta though.   ETA: Malta, Israel, Armenia, Lithuania, Latvia, Austria, Greece, Luxembourg, Denmark and Finland qualified for the final. Australia, Serbia, Czechia, Georgia, Ireland and Montenegro eliminated.
    • Grant Aleksander is a charismatic performer, but I never liked Philip very much. I thought he was a sanctimonious ass at times and also too intense for me. I do think they had a great opportunity for his 2009 return story at showing a man who had come back from the brink and wanted to reclaim his life. If the show had continued, I am curious to see what they would have done. The show's biggest mistake with the Spauldings was keeping Alan much too long instead of having Philip take his place as head of the family. Ron Raines was the luckiest man in daytime to last for 15 years. Alan should have died in the early '00s at the latest, during the Philip/Olivia saga.
    • Too soon to make any judgments about nuTed, but I will say that I think they should've gone older.  And I also saw some chemistry between Bill and Leslie as well lol but Bill's part in Ted and Leslie's affair/Bill and Ted's friendship needed to be established a lot sooner than when the reveal happened. Their relationship could be a really good counterpoint to the Duprees.   But I really liked the parallel that was drawn between Kat and Chelsea, and what their father's did. I like their relationship and I hope they go on to investigate Laura's accident. I just hope it doesn't come until something happens between Eva and Tomas.  Btw, Happy Birthday, Eva! A lot of birthdays today

    • I love you He’s definitely not for me. He comes across very meek. Trisha is going to eat this man alive in scenes.  Excellent scenes! Her damn nicknames be tearing me the hell up
    • Stephanie also was raped in college and killed her rapist along with the help of Chelsea.  It was an accident, but that's something the show has only touched on once or twice since AK took over the role. Very good point!
    • Robinson is less imposing than Johnson was and that makes the character seem completely different. If anything he came off as someone who could have played Doug.
    • Exactly. That's a fertile ground, where a lot of drama could be mined from. That's a great idea. Especially since her kidnapping was a part of the Dimera/Kiriakis war at the time. Not only could it cause conflict between Stephanie and Alex/the Kiriakises, it could also be tied to both families trying to buy the hospital, and how that would make the hospital look, since these villainous families both want to own it.
