Aren't actors supposed to have charisma? Isn't part of the problem that these shows are filled with people who not only have no charisma, they actually have a negative charisma factor in that they drain it out of anyone they have scenes with? I'll refrain from namimg any names as to keep any middle finger action to a minimum.

Agreed. I'm psyched for this return. Mainly because the character of Brenda still has major unfinished business with the show.

I wish she'd drop the Giovinazzo, though. In Hollywood, that's like tempting fate (remember when Roseanne Barr was Roseanne Arnold?).

Alicia, IMO, is probably one of the only actresses on ABC Daytime that come closest to having the charisma VM had. For example, it's not easiest thing to have chemistry with RB and she really does.

I think their decent talents as well, for daytime - but their draw has obviously been more charisma-driven - their ability to have chemistry with almost anyone and anything.

Vanessa was on ABC Daytime on one of GH's heydays of writing, so of course there was some extra pluck there. I don't think Vanessa's return is going to do much for GH this time around. The show and characters have gone down the drain way too much. There's some Sonny/Brenda draw there as they're probably GH's last true supercouple, but again there's a lot more damage to the show and characters than there was 7 years ago.

Back to the topic of the promo and as the promoting part of this winds down... I have to take back my original thought that the Brenda return campaign was going to easily top the real Greenlee one due to the ABC news release. Surprisingly, except for next Tuesday, the real Greenlee promoting was much, much heavier handed. Frons likes blonds better, that's something I knew but ... it was Vanessa Marcil!

ETA:

Word on the husband's name. Vanessa must really want it attached, at the moment. Honeymoon phase.

Oh, not it will not. Because i will not pimp GH. I tuned in the other day, and aside om the fun batshit crazy Lisa, it sucks. and i am sure brendas return will rock for a few months, and then i will hate gh again but torture myself by watching because, well, its nessa. and shes perfection.

The people who did the sins of the father promo did it, i think.

    • Actually that is not what happened. Nor is the timing right for it to have been. We learned from a WOST interview with Pete Lemay  in 2006, which can be found on YT, that it was Fred Silverman's idea to do the 90 minute show. I don't know how much you know about him but he had these amazing successes as head of daytime at both ABC & at CBS. Then he came to NBC where basically everything he touched turned NOT TO GOLD but to shite. Some of the most expensive shows ever produced up to that time were huge flops. Although even he, like a broken clock, could be right on occasion. However, as we know, he was not right about the 90 minute show. As a matter of fact, afterward,  NBC programmers, who worked FOR him, were asked why they did it & they were quoted as saying it was because they couldn't think of anything else to try. It was a stupid idea from a man who had reached the point where he was throwing anything at the wall to see if it would stick.

    • I stopped watching Another World in 1990. Simply, lost interest in the show.  I had watched the show from 1973 to 1990. The 90 minute show started the decline of AW.  NBC panicked with expanding AW due to the GH hoopla. As mentioned above, 1982 was a trainwreck for AW.  The introduction of the Shea family, the movie storyline involving Jamie, and Steve Frame favoring Rachel over Alice. The writers went into that direction due to the forgettable performance of Linda Borgeson.

    • Ive seen that theory thrown out but the one thing against it is that Leslie and her family lived in Chicago. She only came back to DC last year after her husband died. Unless they say Alan made a trip to DC and died while away, she wouldnt know about that. However I do think the angle of her finding out that Martin was involved could work as that gives her leverage against Bill too for covering it up. She'd want to get revenge on him by threatening to have him disbarred
    • What a good write-up @Errol! Nice seeing the nod to Duplaix's lead.

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
