Didn't Bell write for Mason and Weaver when they were on DAYS?

That's the big difference here. All of the people being hired have no experience with Y&R's writing style or what Y&R used to be. The show also has zero idea of what suits these new people. So you have people hired for their names who one after the other have flopped, because why the hell should Y&R fans get the vapors just because Stefan or Bianca or Lizzie Spaulding or Patch had some kind of a following?

The show's idea is basically who cares about creating characters, let's just hire anyone we can find who might bring in some attention. So everyone loses.

i'm not TOTALLY sure on this, but I *think* Bill was not a writer for any of them, but a story consultant. Possibly for Mason... and I'm pretty sure Bell was totally out of DOOL by the time Bregman and Diamont came along. I think Miller is doing fine. He's overexposed... but doing fine, look how everyone says how much he channels Terry Lester. I think Hendrickson is BETTER on Y&R. I just like Branson, she's brooding, sexy, HOT STUFF. Reigel is the fly in the ointment.

Wasn't that Barbara Bloom's doing, casting Nicholas.

Yep. Apparently, Paul and Maria picked William "Rusty" Russ, but Bloom really pushed for Stephen Nichols.

Gee, Maria, if you were really paying attention to Papa Bell, why didn't you know that he never, under any circumstances, caved into the networks on anything?

As Gary Tomlin once said (and I'm paraphrasing), DAYS was like Y&R on speed.

I believe he said that in reference to JER's DAYS in the 90's. Though, outside of the sometimes ridiculously slow pace, I never saw many similarities under the surface between the two shows then.

Oops, my bad. Thanks, Alvin, for the clarification! :)

And they don't care.

Entitled fanbases don't care the show is destroyed as long as their agendas are pushed & their characters propped.

He doesn't though.

He lacks quality writing & the emotional range.

Though, outside of the sometimes ridiculously slow pace, I never saw many similarities under the surface between the two shows then.

And look how well Y&R is doing (both critically & commercially) now that it's employing the same stupidity that's just about destroyed Days.

Billy Miller brings absolutely no vulnerability to his performances, which is something you desperately need in a character like Billy Abbott. not that it's in the writing either, mind you, but Miller definitely has no range as an actor.

Exactly.

Miller has potential but he has an extremely limited emotional range.

He would be fine back on ABC cause ABC was destroyed a LONG time ago but on Y&R it's REALLY noticeable.

But keep in mind that Bill Bell DID do the exact same thing in the early 80's, as Tracey Bregman, Don Diamont, Margaret Mason, and Patty Weaver ALL came from DOOL, Margaret came first in 1980, and Diamont last, in 1984. So it HAS happened in the past, just sayin.

Don't encourage Maria, alphanguy74! Did they come on the show with a lot of hype and were only brought on because of their popularity on another show and not because they fit their character?

I think Miller is doing fine. He's overexposed... but doing fine, look how everyone says how much he channels Terry Lester.

I can't comment on the acting part, but I think at certain times Billy Miller looks like Terry Lester.

I've heard people say this, but I often wonder how many who say this actually saw Terry Lester and how much of this is just the knowledge that Lester's Jack was a playboy and Miller is supposed to be the same (if playboy = nympho sociopath riddled with STDs). I'm the first to admit that I am no expert on Terry Lester, but honestly I see very little of Chompers in Lester. There was a sincerity and a depth in Lester's Jack which was mixed with his cowardice and shallowness. Miller is just Miller, all mugs and nothing underneath.

I don't see any characters among those hired in recent years. I still have no idea why anyone should care about Chloe, who has had so many personalities and so many backstories and yet is such an empty character that they just have to have Chance cheat on her for pity points. The only thing that the character has going for her is Liz Hendrickson.

The show is at the point where the actors could just trade roles every day and it wouldn't matter.

It's the same with people who say Dru & Giggly Heffa was a rivalry.

Neither is true beyond the VERY shallow.

Indeed.
