These days, I literally groan whenever a comedian reaches for a guitar. See what you started Adam Sandler?

What was Lauren Graham wearing? Was a toilet seat cover stuck to a black dress?

Is it me or were they trying too hard to be very "cute" this year? That seemed the only point of the sections on the nominees for the writers and such. I just skipped most of that. I don't care about seeing writers and producers and directors who think they're hilarious.

Is Lea Michelle always so damn fake? Then again, what is Glee but fake empty nothingness?

I thought the In Memoriam section was well put together but then I had to hear Jewel's awful goat-with-a-sore-throat "singing".

I forgot Julia Ormond or Claire Danes ever existed. For two women I mostly remember for looking bored, they've certainly continued to master looking bored. Julia saying "It takes a village" suggests she is in 1996 -- the last time she had a career.

What I hated about Jewel's singing is that it stole focus from what was important, the departed, and folks in the audience were reticent to applaud for fear of interrupting her performance. Yeah, I have a REAL problem with that. I also feel that when there is a montage of dead people, you should have the decency to clap for everyone, just one long sustained clap, and okay, you can clap nice and hard when they show the final clincher person.

That type of thing (some getting more applause than others) seem to happen at so many awards shows. I don't know how to remedy it.

I should say this was at least better than the Oscars singing memoriam, which didn't list names and which barely even let us see the first few people because they were so focused on putting the camera elsewhere, but I wish they could just let us hear a few more of the clips and not have the awful attempt at yodeling. The implication is that they don't think we will care about this unless they have some "star" singing at us. It's the same condescension Hollywood always trips up over.

Absolutely, don't get fancy, just stick to the tried and true clips and names, instrumental music. Oh, I hated that, I think Queen Latifah sung I'll be seeing you and they had the nerve to do long shots of her singing with the screen barely visible in the background flashing clips and faces, what is the bloody point of THAT!? So insulting.
