Y&R Discussion Week of June 14

FYI. In today's US episode, Jess Walton and Juliana McCarthy have an AWESOME scene. It is crazy how well these two make you believe they were mother and daughter, even though Brenda originated the role. And yes, they are mother and daughter in every way that counts.

Random scene with David Hasslehoff and his RL daughter. Can't believe this was part of his agreement to return for a few episodes. He's very fluid as Snapper though -- it's like he never left.

I am starting to really hate Katherine being so sanctimonious and having to involve herself in every scene involving the Fosters. Go pimp Kevin's ass or something, granny!

Boo hoo, Phyllis complaining about Sharon never backing off "mah husBIND." Oh well. You reap what you sow, Shark Eyes.

International Men of Mystery Victor and Jack Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Touche.

It's just so stupid to have Mackenzie, Billy, Chance, Esther, Nina & Chloe MIA (not to mention Phillip) while Jill, Katherine & Liz are dealing with something so important.

But Chancellors don't matter. Just Newmans & Baldwin Fishers.

I didn't mean to be so glib, I guess I'm still annoyed about the years of story with Phillip's return that they threw away in about two weeks. I don't know if anyone still claims that MAB built up the Chancellor family but if they did it's been proven less and less true with each passing month. Something tells me if Hoff had not been on Y&R before and if Katherine wasn't on the show, then this story wouldn't even happen. Either that or they'd just say Jill and Liz were killed in some kind of canoeing accident.

I get what you are saying, but the idea of having blandtastic Chance, Chloe with her Amande Beall-patented snarky one-liners, Chompers Miller and poor pregnant Mac shoehorning on what should be Jill's moment with her mother... I think it would take away from Jess Walton's airtime. This is her story, not theirs. I love her scenes with McCarthy, the tenderness and intimacy of them.

Nina and Esther, on the other hand? Yes. Even though Nina is not a Foster or a Chancellor by birth, she is "of the same mold" as Jill.

Totally.

But for all of some viewers going on about Maria "rebuilding" The Chancellors, this was a prime opportunity for them to let those characters actually do some good supporting work while still letting McCarthy, Cooper, Walton, Hauser & Hasselhoff do the heavy lifting.

It would do wonders to humanize Chloe if she were there for her Godmother or have Nina & Mackenzie comfort Jill about

There's actual good in character reasons for those characters to be there instead of them treading water in the horrible stories they're currently in.

They could have also used this story to bring in some children or grandchildren of Snapper and Greg, to help freshen up what is one of the most horrifically damaged and trite young adult sets on any soap. Instead, MAB or Bloom or whoever just bring in Marcy Rylan to play a 30 year old looking Abby pretending to be an 18 year old.

Good news: at least they have given Chompers and Vamptoria and their incessant dry-humping a rest this episode.

Bad news: they replaced them with Phyllis bitching about Sharon McBrainless. Because obviously it's not NICK'S fault if he paws at his ex-wife's face.

Sharon holds Faith like Sonny holds a piece of barware just before he smashes it. She's not a vase, Sharon.

So that's the reason for the Daniel/Abby pairing.

I think she looks her age and then when you add in the attempts to make her seem younger, that ages her a bit more. Then again I still think Billy looks 40 years old, so it's probably just me.

    • Very. They're building up his story again and picking the perfect time to do so. As the SilkPress storyline climaxes and go off in several great directions, they are building up that story to take a turn.

    • @Soapsuds Thanks for posting Night by night Mon 8pm The Rookies edged Gunsmoke but attracted younger(more desirable) viewers.NBC failed with Born Free/Smothers Brothers (how many different series did those 2 get??) 9-11pm  Maude/Rhoda/Medical Center dominated on CBS,but Football and Movies were competitive on an occasional basis. ABC tried  SWAT/Caribe later in the season and the former worked for them. Tues 8-11 pm CBS all the way Good Times, MASH, Hawaii Five O,Barnaby Jones. NBC had the fading Adam 12,Movie and Police Story mmm...don't see that listed? ABC Happy Days, which ABC decided to keep despite lackluster ratings, the Movie of the Week and Marcus Welby-once pulling big numbers but no longer. 8pm NBC had a new hit with Little House, easily beating Sons and Daughters, which was axed and replaced with Tony Orlando, which did much better. ABC had That's My Mama and the Wed movie. 9pm Cannon was the lead here as Lucas Tanner failed to capitalize on the LHOTP leadin. ABC continued the movie. 10pm Manhunter started strong for CBS but petered out and was cancelled. Petrocelli manged to beat Get Christie Love, which was replaced by Baretta-no ratings winner but ABC decided to renew. Thurs Another CBS night with The Waltons and a movie. ABC counterprogrammed with Odd Couple/Paper Moon then Barney Miller/Karen NBC did even worse with Sierra and replaced it with Mac Davis which improved ratings quite a bit. However, it was moved to 9pm for Sunshine/Bob Crane 9pm Some good numbers for ABC with Streets of San Francisco fending off Ironside,Archer and Mac Davis. 10pm Harry O had a slim victory over Movin On Fri 8-11 NBCs best night Sanford/Chico/Rockford/Police Woman. 8pm CBS had high hopes for Planet of the Apes but it bombed. Replacement Khan did even worse. Paul Sand and We'll Get By were tossed in at the end of the season. With poor lead ins the Friday movie didn't deliver. ABC's odd line up saw Kodiak flop, Six Million dollar Man struggle and Texas Wheelers  quickly cancelled. Kung Fu was brought in @8 and Six Million moved to 9. Then Kolchak took over at 8 and Hot*l Baltimore/Odd Couple 9-10. Despite controversy Hot*l flopped. 10pm ABC tried Kolchak then Baretta and finally Get Christie Love Sat CBS lead  with #1 AITF then Paul Sand/MTM/Bob Newhart/Carol Burnett. Paul Sand lost too much of the lead in so CBS spun off The Jeffersons and it was a smash. NBC did OK with Emergency (which beat Paul Sand on occasion, thus hastening that show's demise) and a movie. ABC was a disaster with New Land/Kung Fu and Nakia all failing. They introduced a movie @9 and moved Kung Fu to 8. Sun  NBC  with Disney and Mystery Movie (Columbo McCloud, MacMillan and Wife/Amy Prentiss)did well. ABC flopped with Sonny Bono and recovered by moving Six Million Dollar Man from Fri as a lead in to the movie. CBS hoped Apples Way would be another Waltons but no, so Cher did what Sonny couldn't. Kojak and Mannix successfully finished out the night. Two other shows on the ratings list were Adams of Eagle Lake starring Andy Griffith. Only 2 episodes aired and did well, so I'm not sure what happened there. As for The Law it was a series follow up to a 2 and a half hour NBC special movie .

    • Trust is very easily lost and very hard to re-build.
    • Oh, I know it was. I was just talking about how it's not giving me parallels to Caroline dying. It's really as far from it as possible.  But about the foreshadowing - Hahahhahah. Yes. And you missed one - Liam googling - "what is cancer"...
    • GH 2-17-21 Denise Alexander's last appearance https://www.instagram.com/p/DJdjXgwJ1Ez/
    • @Maxim This Liam dying out of the blue was crafted in a hurry for three reasons: 1. To facilitate JMW's leave 2. To prop Steffy - 'Oh, Steffy has so much grace and moral superiority that she ignored everything that swine HoLo did to tell her for the sake of their daughters. Queen Stephanie would be so proud of her!' 3. Distracting Steffy enough to give Lunacy an easy way to slither into Finn's life. Once Luna discovers that Lame is dying, she'll play that card: 'Dad, life is too short and precious!' If this was an intentional story, we would've had the typical B&B foreshadowing - Liam faceplanting into a bowl of pasta, Lame missing meetings, being forgetful. Instead, Lame does an impulsive quick quit and $B doesn't even care enough to make a single attempt to get him back? Please.
