April 23, 201015 yr Member Perhaps not. I am happy though that OLTL's firing of Kish so they could get back to telling the stories it's Klan audience wants to see is paying off for them as handsomely as it is. ABC is the one who put forth the argument that Kish = ratings good and bad, so mazel tov to OLTL on their shrewd business decisions that has led the show to become the ratings dynamo it is today. +1 Edited April 23, 201015 yr by marceline
April 23, 201015 yr Member Poor Y&R a all time low.....I LOVE IT Me too!!! hahahahahaha!!! Prayer does work...the drop was just right!! Well off to pray again over the weekend that this week's shows will be rewarded with just as much of a drop or close to it. You write bloody garbage and your ratings deserve to be in the toilet or heading there LOL!!!
April 23, 201015 yr Member Ever the optimist, I'm going to assume this is the calm before the storm. Maybe all the shows dropped because the stories are being built up for May sweeps. Or so I hope. At least there was good news: the Emmys will take place in Las Vegas and CBS will air them on June 27th! Maybe some good news for daytime will reinforce confidence in viewers. I know for this week, OLTL looked and felt totally different. Dorian/Viki/Charlie, Marty/John/Natalie, Starr/Cole/Todd/Tea, etc. If this doesn't bring in the ratings, I'm not sure anything will.
April 23, 201015 yr Member Looks like Thursday was all around bad day for soaps.. Maybe people were out doing their taxes It does look that most of the soaps rebounded by Friday Edited April 23, 201015 yr by Dee41
April 23, 201015 yr Member I'm the first one to say "don't put too much stock in week to week ratings variations, they're not meaningful". But Y&R dropped 431K last week, when the rest of CBS dropped well less than 100K. I think THAT is meaningful. For the first time, I have seen in my own life my own disinterest in this sh!t leading me not to watch...and watching older family members (folks who don't follow internet or read mag) tune out in disgust. "Too far-fetched" That's a shame, although I'm not too surprised. The Y&R hype had to fall off at some point. Why do I get the feeling that the geniuses at Y&R will blame Tracey Bregman finally getting a story... Poor Tracey. She's been working with an ACTING COACH to pull this sh!t off. She CARES. She may, sadly, be the only one. A huge one week drop off shouldn't be too alarming. It's the consistent falls and staying there that should get them worried. They had a big week last week, then a big fall this week. Toups, you are 100% right, except that the Y&R fall is so much larger than the rest of the net. Indeed, one can intuit (since B&B usually follows Y&R's peaks and valleys closely) that there are people who regularly watch both but last week DIDN'T watch Y&R, yet watched B&B. That would be a chance. Ultimately, you're right. The truth is in the TREND. But I have a hunch this one won't be bouncing back. I think this is one of those "permanent" half-million drops (like the one we saw in Latham's second half, and we saw when MAB was writing with Josh Griffith). Yow, that is a bigger Y&R drop than I'd expected. That's around the area that got Josh Griffith fired and brought in Rauch and Sheffer. Exactly. In what you typed above, there is strange hope. It is the numbers, and ONLY the numbers, that will speak to Sony/CBS. It has been alleged that Sony/CBS is partly responsible for what we're seeing now (see Muhney's comments on TWOP about network and SONY notes--and I've read it elsewhere too)...so whether this will encourage them to dial back on the Passions-fare, or hire new staff...several weeks of this half-million drop could be VERY useful. I am struck how the Neilsen computer survey (that many of us did) a few months ago LED TO A WORSENING of the show! Could it be that people asked for this sh!t?? When was the last time Y&R got an overall 3.5 in HH's, it had to be sometime in the earlier part of fall 2009, right? I'd love it it they had another massive ratings erosion, it's also been a while since the dipped below 5 million, right? Y&R's falls were more massive than I expected. I at least expected them to dip to a 3.6 or 3.7. But 3.5? But these falls are WELL DESERVED though. I know I finally gave up on the show last week, maybe others have finally thrown in the towel with this nonsense show. I mean seriously, two storylines with doppelgangers going on at the same time? We are totally agreed, I'm shocked to say. Never before was a ratings drop like this more deserved.
April 23, 201015 yr Member I curious as to how other daytime shows performed last week, like The View and Oprah? Did they see significant declines as well?
April 23, 201015 yr Member Y'all are some of the most optimistic people I have ever seen. I just want to take you all to Vegas, get you drunk and play blackjack with you. dang this is funny dropped my Subway laughing Edited April 23, 201015 yr by Cyberologist
April 23, 201015 yr Member All shows should be cancelled except for Y&R and B&B. The ratings are horrible!! Seriously the plug should be pulled for all the soaps.
April 23, 201015 yr Member I hope this proves to Brian Frons that AMC doesn't need Zzzendull to ever come back!
April 23, 201015 yr Member I hope this proves to Brian Frons that AMC doesn't need Zzzendull to ever come back! The ratings stayed the same with her return. But if your talking about the new low in 18-49 then maybe her return made that demo go down. Edited April 23, 201015 yr by AS THE WORLD TURNS
April 23, 201015 yr Member It is the numbers, and ONLY the numbers, that will speak to Sony/CBS. It has been alleged that Sony/CBS is partly responsible for what we're seeing now First off, MM needs to STFU!! Secondly what you said here is mostly likely true however it will be a cop-out for MAB & her crew to use that as an excuse. A lot of companies out there have had to do more with less but if you have well-versed and experienced people who can handle this type of situation, more often than not quality does suffer...and certainly not as much as what is going on with Y&R at the moment. MAB is essentially the CEO of Y&R at the moment and she sucks at it..and if your boss tells you this is what I expect from you and this is what I want you to do to drive the show because of budget, time issues, you best be knowledgeable about how to do that. And clearly she is not. There is not one single s/l on the show that makes any damn sense right now, not one happy moment, everything is dark, gloomy, depressing and basically non-sensical..and we get that it is a soap but stop treating that 90% of your audience who have invested years in this show and its characters as if we are stupid. The interesting part of those ratings that for EVERY DAY of the week more people tuned out of watching. Edited April 23, 201015 yr by JimTolkien
April 23, 201015 yr Member dang this is funny dropped my Subway laughing Just to be honest, I'd already seen the HH numbers when I posted that so I knew the previous posters were guessing too high. But wouldn't it be cool if we could wager on this stuff? Edited April 23, 201015 yr by marceline
April 23, 201015 yr Member LOL! at Y&R's massive drop. It is TOTALLY deserved. OUCH for OLTL, but it would have happened regardless a certain couple was there or not. Kish wouldn't have stopped the show from sucking like it does now.
