I find the ratings for NYC so disappointing because I am loving this season. For me there is a good balance of light moments and drama.

I would absolutely jump ship if Jill Zarin returned.

If I were Joe I'd want my sentencing over with. Why not have all the bad news at once?

Andy hates Jill and has been very positive about the show on Twitter so I doubt my theory would come to fruition. I do wonder if her returning would budge the ratings because even after B ethenny left the show remained strong ratings wise. I personally have no problem with anyone on the show except Aviva's crusty father but the ratings are too low to not change anything because for some reason the general audience is not interested. We'll see. Edited by Eric83

The ratings aren't good, but I think that has less to do with the show than it does with the promotion of the show. The 'Moldavian Massacre' happened with the RH franchises as a whole once Russell Armstrong killed himself, but RHONYC has had next to no promotion this season, and lord knows why, the trailers were epic and the episodes themselves have been satisfying.

Does anyone know offhand what the OC ratings are like this season?

They're about even with last season. Another advantage for OC is that they tend to increase in ratings as the season goes on and judging by what's to come I think it will start trending upwards soon. OC and Atlanta are the only franchises that haven't suffered major audience losses in the past couple of years.

NYC's current season is better than any other series (save ATL) most recent season BUT the ratings do not reflect that. People dropped the show bc it lost a sense of familiarity when they did the drastic cast changes. I do think bringing back some old faces would bring back viewers who simply couldn't take to the new women. I definetly think Jill and Alex should return. At this point with the ratings so low, it cant hurt to try

I don't think people tuned out due to the new women because they couldn't take them, I think s4 was so toxic and there was such an air of toxic around it that people didn't tune in for s5.

I don't think bringing back Jill of all people will help. Nor Alex. As I says, perhaps Bethanny but doubtful.

Yet there was no dropoff in season 4 as the ratings remained high and increased as it went on. Season 4 was toxic but people were still watching. The reboot was too drastic a change and alienated people. The transition between seasons and how Bravo handle it was awful. Im a trooper but I was ready to drop it bc of that. I didn't take to any of them until this season and that's only bc its been so long. The series was unrecognizable in S5 and a chore to watch

The problem is that even though Season 4 has this rap as being toxic people were clearly watching and when you eliminate like half the damn cast of course the audience is going to doubt it will ever be as entertaining or as exciting again. Personally 4 was nuts but I still loved it from a television standpoint. If I were on the show I probably would have lost my mind but just being a watcher I was absolutely hooked.

To go from that to quiet Carole, semi quiet Heather who wants to gangsta, and just under the surface Aviva was too much a drop.

I'm dreading the "Leg Incident" cuz quietly I fear Ramona is somehow behind it lol.....but then again it could just as easily be drunk Sonja playing a dumb trick. Who knows at this point.

Yay to MARLO. The new Fab 3 :D. I'd rather roll with than Nene, Phakedra and Poorsha.

Did you hear the apparent new rules in their contract that they have to film with whomever the producers say? Basically one can't act like a diva and say I won't film with this chick

I did. I'm sure the only people who pull that card is Nene and Phaedra. The other four can put aside the personal and realize at the end of the day that this is a tv show.

ETA: Lisa will be back!

    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!

    • Thanks. I do wonder if Rose was meant to be more given the caliber of actress they hired. I remembered Sara and Peggy staying longer as they were still on when Soapnet started their repeats. I wonder if that was part of the reason they brought Jake's brother in.
    • Speculation about Missy Reeves' potential evolution on basic civil rights doesn’t change my opinion of her. My view is shaped entirely by her public social media presence—which I find unpalatable—and I have no interest in learning more beyond that. I simply liked Jennifer’s hair and dress. That’s as far as my admiration goes.

    • Cheryl was gone before Lemay came back but I agree with your thinking that he would rather a character from a family he introduced to the show than a family he did not originate.  I remember reading somewhere in the early 90's probably after DS left as writer, their was an either a writer or a producer who made a comment that their intent was bring the McKinnon family back to AW.  Would have made sense for the newer viewers from the 80's.  Much like Lemay's attempt to bring the Frames back from his writing in the 70's in his 1988 return
    • DePriest left in January 1988. According to the AWHP, Rose last appeared nearly a year before in February 1987 while both Sara and Peggy appeared as late as October 1987.
    • Annie was not brought in as an antagonist for Reva. Reva wasn’t even on the canvas when Annie first appeared in late 1994.
    • The speculation……….very entertaining.
