And yeah Leon who went nowhere... Doing the swing version of Better the Devil Kylie was doing on touring at the time back when Kylie was at her most botox heavy

Cute how excited Dannii is. They really have a close relationship despite it all.

Rhydian first made his mark by doing his popera version of Get This Party Started.

Leon's first album was supposedly very good (never heard it myself) but there was just very little interest in him, and there was also the backlash over his winning.

Aside from Alexandra, and the first guy, who sounds more like a Britain's Got Talent winner and now trashes the show every chance he can get, X Factor has very very traditional winners. Leon and then this year's winner Joe (although I was happy Joe won, as he was one of the only people who could actually sing in tune), and Leona, who was often attacked for being a robot.

American Idol used to have slightly quirkier winners. Fantasia would never have won X Factor. It was only after Taylor Hicks won Idol that the show got so scared and started putting their foot down harder than ever to manipulate viewers into getting the result they wanted. Due to the heavy hand and shrinking ratings and audience demo, they have gotten the same damn winner three years in a row. Be careful what you wish for, as they say.

One thing that you almost always hear Dannii's contestants say (aside from one girl last year who kept trashing her during and after the competition) is that Dannii is very helpful and supportive and comes in to spend time with them during the week, whereas most of the other judges/mentors are too busy or don't care enough.

They seem to be more of TV presenters these days.

They were the Sanjayas, they livened up what was otherwise a dull season. They probably never should have been put through, they were so clearly terrified and not all that talented. But then that season wasn't heavy on entertainment value. The "star" of that season was supposed to be Olly, whose main method of performing seemed to be wearing very tight pants and thrusting his crotch.

Eric, do you remember the rumors that Kylie and Jason Donovan (who were both on that X-Factor finale in 2007) were going to reprise their duet of "Especially for You"? That didn't happen, although I remember people saying it would have been one of the more memorable moments if it had.

That was also around the time he was on that sketch comedy show she had where she did a skit where she acted like she didn't remember him. I wonder if that show wasn't very popular, it didn't have a second season.

Wait a minute, don't tell me that^^ came before Shirley's cover? :o That judge calling it OTT and all makes me think he's unaware of the inspiration material.

They're using this in the adverts for the new Cats and Dogs movie. :P

I love Shirley, I really do, but I don't get how her homophobic 70s comments have been completely forgotten

Yeah the Kylie/Jason cover was such a fabricated hoax. Kylie had her tv show (an ill attempt, though I of course loved it--to revive the old variety specials--like "Cilla" as she said) and they mocked that in a sketch I found uproarious, and I'm sure no one else did :P ) I've heard from a few people who are X Factor obsessed about how much Dannii takes her people under her wing--as Carl says I don't think any of the others do at all.

The Dynasty style catfight:

Fastest selling album in Ireland history too, right? I worked Dublin's Tesco's for six months in 2000 and I served my share of completely drunk people at 9am but... wow.

It's always funny when Simon participates in a silly skit, a part of me wonders if he got tossed an exra quarter of a million that week. :P Their hair is so... fake. I like when DDaannnniiii stops for a second to sip her champers while Kylie gets her bearings 'bout her.

So what did Shirley say again? She called some male group girly or something?

Did/does Chad have a substance abuse problem? I remember him from Our House with Wilford "Die-a-beetus" Brimley and Deidre Hall.

Eric, SB has daddy/men issues, it's evident in interviews (older ones especially). I don't know her personally, but I've gotten a vibe from her that I recognize from a couple of women I've known over the years who have similar issues. Specifically, they have no use for men who have no use for them. "Contempt" for guys who don't think they hung the moon and who don't desire them truly, madly, deeply. Fans who come to concerts and buy records, and close friends, a different story. But SB strikes me as the type who'd throw, "F@##0!" at a straight guy she made a pass at who just wasn't interested. I'm playing computer chair psychologist here but I'm not pulling it out of my ass, it's definitley something I've thought about in the past. She's got a huge gay fanbase and she's always chiding leading men in movies for being wimps (not saying all gay men are wimps, but you get my drift). When we talked about this last time I think you said the guys in that film were actually very "macho" but to Shirl that would have been a total waste of manliness.

    • Several legends here. Like @DRW50 I grew up knowing Joe Don Baker first and best from Mitchell (and his other infamous MST3K appearance, the equally hilarious Season 10 episode Final Justice - there were funny rumors he wanted to beat up the MST gang after Mitchell, while others claimed he actually took it all in good fun). I only learned later what a great actor and personality he truly was in things like Cape Fear, The Living Daylights and the original, strange and mystical BBC miniseries Edge of Darkness, where he played a CIA operative laughing in the face of nuclear annihilation. There's nobody like him. Same goes for George Wendt. Norm speaks for himself, as does Cheers. He'll never be forgotten as long as there's still television.
    • I want SHELLE to be friends, like Belle is friends with Philip.  It will always be awkward, but they've known each other since high school (24 years ago).  And it has never worked out for them romantically. However, most importantly, I must lodge my oldest complaint about scene length.  Why can't they get two words out of their mouths without cutting to another scene?  "Shawn, you look more distracted than usual, tell me why?" "I will..." cut to two-people-that-I-don't-care-what-thier-saying-because-I-want-Shawn-to-finish-his-sentence-already.  I promise, every actor would seem like Glen Close, if they didn't have to cut focus after each line of dialogue.  It drives me batty. Also, one assumes Shawn-D could've used a computer at home (or Black/Patch), to continue his investigation. So, why did he show at the Pub after he lied to take PTO, and then lied directly to Jada's face about being sick?  Unless, of course, it was just a totally inorganic, nonsense device to run into Belle. And, when is Johnny's first day of work?  He got the offer, met about the offer, talked about the offer.  When's he actually going into the office?  And does he own a suit (other than the red devil one)?
    • I always had the impression that Blake turning out to be Christina was a storyline switcheroo after they decided to bring back Roger. She used to talk to someone on the phone and it sounded like it was a younger sibling. Maybe originally they were going to be Spaulding cousins, like Johnny was a Bauer cousin? I'm pretty sure in the Spaulding backstory Brandon had a brother.  LOL. Nola was established as the youngest, the name Chelsea doesn't fit in with the other Reardon sibling names, AND she had a very prominent Southern accent. Kassie would have been more believable as a Lewis or a Shayne. Plus, the character was boring as heck.
    • Is JM making the booty pop too? BtG has all the males shook.
    • 5-15   OMFG!!!! Dayyyyyummm Nick!!! I see the costume designer pinpointed that fitted outfit all the way down for me. WOOF!!! And Audra in the yellow dress. When she sashayed into Crimson Lights in that yellow looked hot AF, even I did a double take. ZS was giving. I kinda like Claire's, Nikki's and Victoria's outfits, but those ZS and JM fits were the standouts for me.   That said...for an episode where nothing really happened...I actually enjoyed it for the first time this week as a whole. I guess it has the slight hint of plot movement. Nikki and Victoria being worried that Claire didn't want to move in with Kyle. Kyle being a little toooooooooo flirty for my liking with Audra and fall of double entrendres with her AND Claire...signaling he is so about to do something stupid. And then there was Jack, Diane, and Kyle's pow-wow and figuring out that Victor was behind Audra's company. Then there was just Holden stalking Audra per usual.    Audra scheming is always going to be fun. And I do hope she best Kyle. Well at least without actually sleeping with him. I am wondering how Holden will factor into that whole triangle now. Wild card?

I actually received a signed photo from her back on 2001. Sad enough the photo is still no among us But I think it would have been juicy to give some material for Morgan and Taylor, they did play a huge part with each other back in 2000-2001 but I also understand why the show wanted to pursue Tridge and Brooke/Ridge/Taylor triangle instead.
    • -- More bad writing. We've been told how Derek takes care of his vehicle. A guy who knows how to detail a car/truck would not be so stupid as to use steel wool on stainless. -- Oh, and here's more bad writing. Tomas said he was bumped from a case by another lawyer and was going home to work. Haven't we been told he's on the partner track? There's no way he'd be bumped on a case.
