OK. First of all, it is only a soap opera. Michael Muhney ain't Rudolph Hesse.

Secondly, principles? In Hollywood? Really? Bwahahaha! MM doesn't have a duty to anybody except himself. You think Eric Braeden and Melody Thomas Scott walked out of Y&R on principle? Braeden couldn't stand the thought that Victor might be indirectly responsible for Colleen's death? Nope. It was a money dispute. MM defends his second-string character (who will probably be written out of the show sooner rather than later) on a relatively unimportant Daytime soap because he has to. He is promoting the show and the upcoming SL and he is probably contractually obliged to do press.

Seriously, you guys need to check out ABC and some of the BS that comes out of the actors' mouths over there. Sarah Brown was all "Guza is writing me the most moving/exciting SL ever. My character is so complex/interesting. This is Shakespeare, y'all!" Next thing you know, she's asking to be let out of her contract early. And now she's on B&B! Funny old world.

Re-read what I said. The bottom line, again, since I have to repeat obviously, is that he needs to shut up because he isn't doing any favours to himself and no favours to this regime, which only becomes more incompetent when they have to enlist their B-list star to help them pimp their stories. He doesn't have to, at all, he chooses to. Different. By choosing to he paints himself as attention-seeking, money-grabbing insecure actor. And nothing wrong if he wants it. But he doesn't. He wants to be seen as this method actor who is bringing greatness to soap world.

Again, you can choose: have principles and be unemployed, d'oh, or shut up and save yourself from being a hypocrite. Or perhaps you want to be seen as such so then we don't have a problem here.

And it's Rudolph Heß.

<_<

No one is saying Michael Muhney should have a duty to the audience. I think the point is that if he doesn't want to be judged for defending a [!@#$%^&*] story, then either find a different role or act in, but keep your mouth shut about how great you think the work is. There's the right way and the wrong way to promote yourself while, at the same time, respecting the audience that you are trying to sell this story to. And let the audience decide what this story is.

If he wants to go on and on about how great his story is and how great the writers are, good for him. But he(and especially his fans and those who feel the need to defend him when fans pick him and this story apart) should be prepared for the obvious negative feedback from his attempt to defend the vile actions of his character.

And MTS and Eric Braeden have nothing to do with it. But since you brought them up, no one said they walked out because of only principal. It was money too. They were looking out for themselves; but they felt like they deserved better. What Braeden and MTS were feeling is exactly the way the viewers were feeling: unappreciated and shortchanged. That's why the some of the internet fan base empathized with them. We knew it was a money issue. But for two people who worked for the same company for over 20 years; you can't just tell me it was ONLY about money. They felt completely disrespected by the way SONY executives came at them.

And I gotta love these anti-soap comments, Cat. Tell us how you really feel. <_<

Well, you guys stop jumping down my throat just because I do not rush to condemn Michael Muhney when --gasp-- he is promoting his current SL.

Yes, Y&R is a load of balls right now and I don't particularly care for his characterization. But I think it is pretty hypocritical of people to attack me for being "anti-soap" when I just got an earful about how my statement about Michael Muhney just doing his job is akin to the passive support of totalitarian regimes and some such nonsense.

In the grand scheme of things, yes, I do think Daytime soaps are unimportant -- to the world at large. They are important to me on a personal level, though. In fact, if they were to go off the air tomorrow, I don't know what I would do. That's not a flippant statement. I have grown up with some of these shows and it would be, quite simply, traumatic. If I were anti-soap, why would I participate on this board and talk soaps with other posters?

No wonder those of us who don't read the magazine interviews and bullshit are missing pieces from this regime's storylines. We're only getting half of it on screen and the rest we are supposed to go searching for in PR. It's like a treasure hunt.

I want Egan back, even doing terrible things there was just something about him that made me hope he wouldn't get caught. Now with MM, I just want Adam to get caught asap so that this crap can end and he can get off my screen.

    • I like Margaret well enough in what I've seen of her as Paige - she is green but she has real star power.  I agree about the actor who plays Brian. He's...mostly just there. Not bad but not great.  My main issue is with the guy who plays Owen. He's just not appealing to me. I can believe Nola being obsessed with him, but he's draining to watch.  I'm surprised people objected to the quasi-incest elements as it wasn't anything that new for soaps.  Speaking of Kim, here's a rare episode of an anthology show she did called The Evil Touch.

    •   I get what you're both saying, and I think the show was lucky to have even made it that long, but I think they could have still maintained a certain audience - Second Chances did before the earthquake. CBS was an older network anyway. I think the premise of Knots was still usable, it was more the characters who were a problem - many of the older figures were played out. If the show had done a better job building up its younger cast instead of making so many poor choices in the late '80s and early '90s, they could have kept things going a little longer.
    • I wish I cared about the homeless lady as much as everyone else seems to. After the nothing burger that was the lawsuit, this just feels like another boring Naomi storyline at Orphy Genes since she has no office.
    • That's great to hear. Thanks. I wish that was more readily available.
    • Just learned that Clifton Davis wrote this song!  I had no idea.

    • I think even if Marland had wanted to write more for Sara/Adam, his hands would have been tied as Robert Milli was one of the actors dumped by P&G due to his age.  From the bits and pieces I've seen of that period, Sara does have a key role in the Carrie plot, and Marland briefly gave her son Tim a more important part. I'm not sure if they just gave up on Tim once Kevin Bacon left or if they never really cared. I did not even know for many years that there was an actor in the part after Kevin...and then not one, but two. The Spauldingfield video on Tim doesn't even show the last actor (Nigel Reed), which kind of says it all. Anyway, I do get the sense Marland has some use for Sara, or for Millette. It's only after he goes that she is dumped. Of course he didn't ever hire her for his other shows, so maybe I'm wrong. (then again he never hired Geraldine Court either and he seemed very fond of her) Ann is an odd character to me as she is a proto-Lillian in being defined by pining for a Bauer brother and being involved in the death of one of their wives. I do wonder what else they could have done with her. She was friends with Diane, wasn't she? They could have had Diane manipulate her against Mike, I suppose.
    • Yassss....come on Maurice and Brandon...give us nothing!!! Wow, their need to develop their craft shone like a blinding light this episode. Brandon in his Martin and Smitty scenes sounded like he was reading and the facial expressions were giving Disney Channel. He did much better against Maurice in the Martin v Ted scenes. Now, Teddd-dyy (Dana's voice) was just flat. I watched the episode just now after reading the comment on here that Maurice needs to stop swaying, and now I can't unsee it. Has it really been this bad all along?  Ambyr carries. I don't need to say anymore. I am kind of excited to see this Kat/Tomas/Eva stuff play out.  Bill is such a dick to Dani. Like that's the mother of your children that you cheated on with your daughter's best friend but you look to take those low blows. Lord! When he said that thing about it being obvious he didn't care about Dani anymore since he was the one that walked out...that was cold. I even felt for Dani. Bill definitely is all over the spectrum. You can see a villain possibly surfacing, but you also see this great father. The elder Duprees move a little funny. I'm wondering what that is all about. Are they just overly protective matriarch and patriarch because they think it's what's best for their family, or are they afraid their secrets will come out or there's something more sinister there. Why would Vernon want to keep that information from Martin?  I hope something interesting comes out of this June stuff, but as of right now, I'm not too invested. It's not helping my interest on Naomi or Jacob either. However, tge actress playing Naomi has comes a long way from day one.
