Chris Rock: “Wait! Is that a Daytime Emmy?”

Whoopi Goldberg harrumphs: “It still counts! A girl’s gotta eat!”

—Whoopi Goldberg on an awards show-themed 30 Rock episode this past week when Chris Rock questions her “Emmy win” because it’s a Daytime award

Translation: Bitch, suck on it! Julianne Moore, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Anne Heche aren’t complaining!

Chris Rock?! I think he meant Tracy Morgan...

So she'll be directing.... big deal. Some good sensationalism here from our good friend Nelson Branco. The transparency is just... there are no words.

Yet again, Miss Nellie makes a big deal out of nothing.

She's directing. She's not the Executive Producer. Did you really expect her to stay unemployed?

And yeah, pre-format change, she really wasn't all THAT BAD for GL. At least from a technical, "keep the budget down" standpoint.

Her contract with P&G probably hasn't expired yet, so rather than having her sit at home collecting a paycheck, they put her to work.

Next time Branco claims to have big bad soap news, people need to remember his drama over nothing.

She was also one of ATWT's strongest directors before she became EP of GL. Branco's such a putz. She'll be directing one episode a week, like every other director on staff, and she'll do just fine. She won't have story say, she won't be involved in everyday production. And she'll probably direct some pretty good episodes (or as good as ATWT can be right now). In fact, when GL went off, most of the post-ers here, as I recall, assumed Goutman would re-hire her as a director on ATWT. Once again, Branco's need for attention overshadowed the fact that this was a blip on the radar at best, and not at all "the big bad news" many were expecting.

Seriously, people need to stop paying so much attention to this man.

People really need to stop listening to Branco's "hubbub" and just watch the show.

Why is anybody paying attention to SID? That's like paying attention to Branco.

I don't know what we did to suddenly be "treated" to Nelson effin' Branco as the go-to guy in these final years of daytime serials, but truly, there's no possible way to say "thank you" enough. So please accept two middle fingers, straight up.

People really need to stop paying attention to things Nelson Branco says in his columns...

It's extremely unprofessional of Branco (what else is new?), and isn't fair to an entire script writing team.

But when people like Nelson Branco actually waste space in their column for TV Guide about how Casiello should head write a show just because he has a blog (which is completely preposterous, and laughable), and a portion of the online fans go ga-ga when they found out he's been hired somewhere (like he can suddenly and magically right every wrong on their show),

People get so worked up at Branco, but most of the time, that seems like his intention. He's like the Ann Coulter of Daytime Television... although not nearly as offensive. Most of the time, he's just fun snark, and I think people take him WAY too seriously.

And this is coming from someone who DID take him too seriously, and was INFURIATED by him when his column first started showing up on message boards. I really wanted him to go away, thought he was everything wrong with soap journalism.

Then I realized that most of my vitriol was aimed at the shows themselves, and that he was just aiming his sarcasm at them the way most of us were on the boards. Like R Sinclair said about Tom Casiello, it's not like Branco's saying anything original - he's either saying exactly what we've been saying for years, or [in Branco's case] he's intentionally going against the grain to create controversy.

That's his schtick. ITZ is round-table in-the-moment. Daytime Confidential is edited before airing and therefore more carefully planned Q-and-A. Sara Bibel is considered part of the "press" and conducts interviews and scoops, while Casiello writes conversationally, more "journal" than "journalistic". And Nelson? He likes to ruffle feathers. Every soap blogger out there has something different to offer, and Nelson's offering is purely to ignite long threads like these where people praise him or hate him.

As for the Stefano Marone flub, he posted on a-competing-board that it was a joke. He also keeps referring to Dorian Lord as Dorian DiMera. He likes to smush names.
