Members dragonflies
The new tv guide has something on this(IMOW): It says basically that Rowell's tweets about 3 actors stopping her return, sources at the set are saying that Rowell is right, Khalil doesn't want her back, but her head count is way off. Almost no one in the cast wants her to be rehired. They're angry about her playing the race card and haven't forgotten her prima donna behavior. It goes on to say she's a great actress, and one of the few soap stars popular enough to spike ratings, but the cost of rehiring her is too great. Members classicmoment
Sounds like a Y&R spokesman or woman (media spin). This whole argument about who wants Rowell back and who doesn'ty between Rowell and whoever is very agenda driven on both sides. Everyone involved need to stop the nonsense and get back to the fans and what really matters to the fans
Members MoTheGreat
I guess when Y&R is off the air & they have to get a 9 to 5 job like other americans. & have to work with people they can't stand 5 days a week they going to wish they would have let VR return as Dru so Y&R would have stayed on the air. & they would have just had to go to therapy to deal with VR. Members alphanguy74
Victoria Rowell is not gonna cause this show to die. All they have to do is bump up Kristoff's role, or maybe that's what theyr'e gonna do with the new Malcolm. Who knows. But everyone talks about how they have great front burner black characters on OLTL, and how WONDERFUL the show is, the fans are all happy with it, but the ratings keep dropping. Where's the black viewers for OLTL?
Members miajere
I felt OLTL, like most soaps, is not willing to pay the price to keep black viewers (as a whole) engaged. We're ushered in, and just as easily ushered out; and there is no long term commitment to keep the actors around. In the past few years I've come to understand that "more black viewers" is not he goal of the show; as much as they want "soap fans". Awhile back, I started to get uncomfortable with the subtleness of the show's casting and I got the feeling my viewership was a mere coincidence. I did return to watch Hank and RJ's guest appearance, and I did not feel encouraged to continue past that. OLTL is going to have to do something that transcends color to get me excited about the show again. Problem is, I'm not sure what that is anymore, but when they think of something I'm certain they'll throw it out there, since it seems this genre looks to everyone but black soap fans for unbiased opinions on viewing habits.... To assume black soap fans would be wooed by some complete strangers and a recast is complete bullshit.
Members MoTheGreat
You can't compare VR star power with the black people they have over there. I use to watch OLTL when Evangeline was around. The black people they got now like in most soaps are in their own little separate triangle where they not effecting anybody but two brothers fighting over a biracial girl. That what's most black people complaint is about why black characters are in their own little world on soaps. So, some black viewers are still mad at what happen to Evangeline. & how Todd, Cris, & John forgot about her.
Members juniorz1
Talking to your uncle who had cancer for a few minutes is not the same as researching women who have had ovarian cancer. There's a difference between having your own style of researching and not doing your homework at all. Oh it SO was. She's not trying at all. She is not at all convincing in any scene she's given. Even though I feel a connection between the characters of Colleen & Lily, I didn't feel CK had any emotional connection to the material. She was flat, as usual. And she's dragging this cancer storyline down with her lame, one-dimensional performance. It saddens me that there are tons of unemployed young black or bi-racial actresses that would kill to play this kind of story and we're stuck with this ho-hum nobody. Pretty much exactly what I was going to say. I'm no REG fan by any means but I don't deny she had tons of AA fans. Hell, she was the most popular actress on the entire show, yet ABC cut her loose over a contract dispute. If I were a black viewer or any fan of hers, I doubt I'd want to invest any more time in a show that clearly isn't in it for the long haul. Why would I still be interested as a viewer? Say what you want about Y&R, but characters like Neil, Malcolm, Olivia, and Drucilla, among many others, have been featured prominently for decades. At the very least, they're invested in having a multi-racial cast there. OLTL, not so much.

Members SFK
No you most certainly cannot. Black fans just *seeing* black people on screen isn't enough anymore, they want to *experience* black people, and VR's Dru popped off the screen in a way that no other black woman in daytime has managed to do. Princesses like Evangeline, Layla, Rachel, and Lily are all fine and good, but fans are hungry for the Drus of the world. That's the black woman who is criminally unrepresented on soaps. Debbi Morgan, whose Angie was a princess herself, is the only actress on soaps that I can think of who offers the authenticity of most black women I know, yet she is a woman of a certain age who isn't given the opportnuity to mix it up like an actress ten or twenty years her junior. Debbi was lamenting in SOD almost twenty years ago (see, we're STILL talking about this) how there are no black Erica Kanes, no black Dorian Lords on soaps (can't remember if this was before or after Doreen on Generations, point is, at the time she didn't exist or no longer existed). This is a character type that all fans love, and I think a black version in particular would be especially appreciated. Dru was our last glimpse of that. Members Matt P.
After interviewing both Davetta Sherwood and Christel Khalil, I really got a sense of what happened behind the scenes. Both girls felt differently about the situation. I think that DS got the short end of the stick in my opinion. She didn't say those things about CK, she actually had nothing but nice things to say during the interview. CK wanted her job back and felt ready, unfortunately that meant that DS was out the door. With her exit, "outside sources" started something that never happened! Personally I think both ladies were really fun to talk to.
